They arrived at the basement level three of Chengxing Group. The stairs gradually descended, and the baseboard lights flickered, illuminating their faces. At the end of the stairs was a heavy stone door. Upon opening it, they entered a corridor lined with cells resembling a prison, where occasional wails echoed through the air. Shen Yulin and Cheng Haifeng reached the innermost and largest cell, where the middle-aged man and woman from last night’s private room were chained up. They had been given double doses of aphrodisiacs, drooling with bloodshot eyes fixed on a woman in another corner, their unfulfilled desires causing them to scratch themselves while letting out painful howls. The woman on the other end of the chain had swollen cheeks, disheveled hair, and her clothing barely covered her essential parts; she too had been drugged and was caressing herself.
Shen Yulin coldly observed them. "Wake them up." Two people on either side of the cell poured buckets of ice water over them. The middle-aged man shivered all over, stopping his frantic scratching as his awareness gradually returned. The woman, already scantily clad, trembled violently as the cold water hit her.
"President Wang has such refined tastes." Hearing this, the middle-aged man trembled even more. He slowly turned his head to look outside the cell door, where Shen Yulin's cold gaze pierced him like a blade. Terrified, he wanted to retreat but was held back by the chains, leaving him no choice but to hug himself and cautiously ask, "Shen... Mr. Shen, what have I done wrong? Please show mercy and let me go!"
"What's wrong? Did you forget what happened last night?" Cheng Haifeng lit another cigarette, his eyes narrowing menacingly at him.
"No, Mr. Shen! I'm innocent! It was that woman—yes, her! She said she wanted you and asked me to help her!" The middle-aged man pointed at the woman chained on the other side. "It wasn't me! It was this person who said if I served her well, she'd give me 500,000."
"You're full of crap!" The middle-aged man cursed loudly, glaring fiercely at the woman. If it weren't for the chains holding him back, he would have lunged at her to strangle her.
"Do as you see fit; just make it clean," Shen Yulin instructed Cheng Haifeng before turning to leave.
Today was a business trip day; our flight was at 11:30 AM, so I didn't need to go to the office this morning. I woke up early and packed my ID card, company materials, water bottle, power bank, and other essentials into my backpack. With that done, I pondered whether to call Zhang Yun when my phone buzzed with a message from Lu Yi: "Starry Sky, I'll pick you up in a bit; the four of us are going to the airport together." I replied affirmatively and called Zhang Yun.
"Baby~" As soon as she picked up the phone, I heard Zhang Yun's sweet voice.
"I'm going on a business trip for five days; if you need a meal buddy, don't call me," I said.
"What! You're going on a business trip? Just two weeks into your job? What kind of company is this? No way! I need to go give Mr. Shen a piece of my mind!"
"Hey~ don't! My dear auntie. It's our department's trip; it has nothing to do with him." I quickly stopped her; finally having a chance to return to City Z could be ruined by Zhang Yun's fussing.
"Then tell me where you're going on this trip?"
"City Z; I'm just going to see my dad and aunt."
"Alright then; my family is also there. If you run into any trouble, let me know; I'll call my dad." I agreed repeatedly before hanging up.
After Zhang Yun hung up, she turned to say something to Cheng Haifeng but found he had already dialed Shen Yulin's number: "Hey, don't hold a meeting! Your wife is about to run off with someone!"
Zhang Yun immediately wanted to cover his mouth but it was too late; Cheng Haifeng had already spoken. Zhang Yun silently mourned for me: "Rest in peace, Baby Starry Sky!"
"What?"
"Did you know your wife is going on a business trip?" Cheng Haifeng grinned triumphantly.
"A business trip? Who arranged that?"
"I heard it's some old guy from the IT department; they're going to City Z..." Before he could finish speaking, Shen Yulin hung up. Hearing the dial tone on the other end made Cheng Haifeng swallow nervously as he noticed Zhang Yun glaring at him: "Wife..."
I gathered my things and went downstairs; Lu Yi's car was already parked below. When he saw me coming down, he hurried out to help put my luggage in the trunk.
"Thanks, Lu Yi," I smiled gratefully.
"We're colleagues; no need for such formality," Lu Yi chuckled. "Besides, I'm mainly responsible for this trip anyway; I have to take good care of you all."
I glanced at Yang Xue sitting in the passenger seat and was about to greet her when she shot me a glance and said, "Sorry, I'm carsick; I need to sit in front. Stop dawdling or we'll miss our flight." I decided against greeting her as Lu Yi opened the back seat for me. Just as I was about to step in, a familiar sports car drove up beside us. The window rolled down to reveal Shen Yulin's handsome face.
"Starry Sky, get in," Shen Yulin said succinctly.
