I went downstairs to say goodbye to Gao Yong, and when I returned home, I saw him still standing downstairs through the window.
I pulled the curtains and leaned against the window to look at the scenery outside.
But my mind was occupied with thoughts about what Gao Yong was really planning to do.
He had sent me such a message last night; why was he still entangled with me?
Unable to make sense of it, I decided to stop thinking about it.
I closed the curtains to block out the outside view and went to take a bath.
The next morning, Gao Yong personally drove my car over.
I invited him upstairs to sit for a while, and this time he agreed.
"How about we have dinner together?" I suggested.
"Sure," he replied happily. "I'll cook."
"You can cook?" I was a bit surprised.
"I can learn a thing or two for you."
Gao Yong hugged me from behind, resting his chin gently on my shoulder.
I stiffened slightly, feeling a bit unaccustomed to such intimacy.
"Unaccustomed?" Gao Yong chuckled softly, his cool fingers slowly tracing my cheek. "You used to love it when I did this."
"I..."
I opened my mouth but didn't know what to say.
Gao Yong smiled, released me, and turned to head into the kitchen.
Watching him busily moving around in the kitchen, I felt a stir in my heart.
This kind of scene was something I had longed for a long time ago.
Now, it could be considered a wish fulfilled.
But...
I pressed my lips together, suppressing the various emotions rising within me, and stepped forward to help.
Gao Yong's cooking skills were quite good; at least the taste of the dishes was almost identical to what I used to make for him.
As we ate, my eyes unexpectedly became a bit misty.
"Why are you crying?"
Gao Yong reached out and gently wiped away the tears from the corner of my eye.
"It's nothing," I shook my head. "I just think it's amazing that I'm actually sitting at the same table with you, having dinner."
"There will be more moments like this in the future."
Gao Yong smiled, and his gentle, lingering embrace made me feel lost in it, unable to escape.
His kiss was strong and passionate, just like before.
"Gao Yong..." I gently pushed him away.
"Hmm?"
"Nothing."
I shook my head and once again sank into his embrace.
"I love you," he said.
The next day, Gao Yong continued to live with me.
He will take me to eat all kinds of delicious food and bring me to places that couples often go.
"Gao Yong, look at that!"
I pointed at the jewelry store in front of us.
On the advertisement screen for the latest diamond ring, a couple was sweetly kissing.
Gao Yong's eyes flickered, and his expression softened.
He tightened his grip on my hand, as if he wanted to pull me in to buy a ring.
I smiled and changed the subject, "It looks like there's an amusement park over there. Shall we go check it out?"
"Sure." Gao Yong replied indulgently and took me to the amusement park.
After playing all day, we were both exhausted.
On the way back, Gao Yong suddenly asked me, "Your phone ringtone is really nice. Who sings it?"
"Ah?" I was taken aback for a moment. "I haven't paid attention."
"I wanted to ask you yesterday; the lyrics of your ringtone are quite special."
"Really?" I smiled, "Then I'll check it out when I get back."
"Mm." Gao Yong nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
That night, Gao Yong and I lay in bed, each playing on our phones.
Suddenly, my phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.
I hesitated for a moment but still answered, "Hello?"
"Mom!"
A child's voice came from the other end of the line.
I was slightly taken aback, then smiled and replied, "Hey, sweetheart."
"Mom, when are you coming back? Jingjing misses you."
"I'll be back in a couple of days. Be good and listen to Dad, Jingjing."
"Mm, Jingjing will be good and wait for Mom to come back."
After hanging up the phone, I looked up and saw Gao Yong staring at me.
His expression was complicated, filled with sadness, confusion, and… grievance.
"Is this 'baby' your son?" he asked.
"Yes," I nodded.
"Are you married?" His voice trembled slightly.
"No," I shook my head. "I just have a child."
"What about the child's father?" he pressed on.
"He…"
I hesitated, unsure of how to respond.
"He's the man named Li Bin, right?" he asked.
"Yes," I nodded.
"You…" Gao Yong opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something.
But in the end, he still said nothing.
I could understand his feelings; he must be very disappointed and sad.
After all, he once thought I belonged to him.
But now, not only do I have a child with another man, but I have also been living with another man for three years.
"Gao Yong, I..." I wanted to explain, but I didn't know how to.
"You don't need to say anything." Gao Yong took a deep breath. "I understand everything."
"And you? What about you and Ma Hui?" I couldn't help but ask.
"As for her..." Gao Yong let out a bitter laugh. "It's complicated."
"Oh." I replied and didn't ask further.
"Go to sleep." Gao Yong gently patted my back. "It's late."
"Okay." I replied and closed my eyes.
