The next day, I met Han Qingtian.
I had to admit that Han Qingtian truly embodied the male lead archetype. Not only was he tall and handsome, but he also possessed exceptional work capabilities. Managing such a large company every day, he handled everything with ease and decisiveness. In the company, he was like a living tyrant; everyone feared him, and none of the secretaries or assistants working beside him lasted more than three months.
In his personal life, he was even more demanding. At least, when I first laid eyes on him, I felt a shiver that seemed to come from my very soul. His pitch-black eyes were cold and sharp, devoid of any warmth, as if he could see right through me. My heart sank suddenly, and my back was instantly drenched in cold sweat. But soon, I concealed my inner terror, lifted my chin, and put on a submissive demeanor.
Han Qingtian stared at me for a few seconds before speaking in a flat tone, “What’s on the agenda for today?” His voice was cold and emotionless, tightening my chest. I quickly replied, “You have a meeting at the company today, followed by a business dinner in the evening.”
“Mm.” Han Qingtian nodded and stepped outside. I followed closely behind him, carefully maintaining my distance. Although I wanted to escape my current situation, I didn’t act impulsively; I knew I wasn’t yet capable of confronting Han Qingtian and could only endure for now.
My daily tasks were simple: tidying up the room, cooking, accompanying him to social events, and so on. These tasks were straightforward but extremely time-consuming and exhausting; I often worked late into the night before I could rest. Yet I persisted every day because I understood this was a fate I couldn’t escape from at the moment.
At eight o'clock in the evening, the business dinner took place at a five-star hotel in the city center. Han Qingtian brought me along with him, and his request was utterly ridiculous: he wanted me to dress up like Xu Lu.
Looking at the reflection of my face in the mirror that bore a resemblance to Xu Lu's by about seventy to eighty percent made me feel incredibly frustrated. Xu Lu was Han Qingtian's first love, his ideal woman, and a thorn in his heart. He had deep feelings for Xu Lu, but she did not reciprocate; she even went abroad to escape him. Meanwhile, Han Qingtian treated me as Xu Lu's substitute.
This thought made me feel sick to my stomach, but I dared not defy Han Qingtian's orders. Instead, I suppressed my discomfort and put on Xu Lu's favorite white gown and her most cherished jewelry, transforming myself to look just like her.
The atmosphere of the business cocktail party was lively, with celebrities from various fields gathered together, dressed elegantly and mingling. Han Qingtian was the focus of the event; as soon as he appeared, he immediately attracted everyone's attention. As his female companion, I naturally received my share of attention as well.
Han Qingtian leaned in and whispered in my ear, "Smile." I quickly forced a smile. He then pointed to the red wine in front of us and said, "Drink." I picked up my glass and took a small sip. Han Qingtian continued to instruct me, "Your posture is wrong; sit up straighter." I hurriedly adjusted my posture.
Throughout the night, Han Qingtian kept giving me orders—one moment asking me to do this, the next moment asking me to do that. I felt like a puppet, completely devoid of freedom. A surge of frustration welled up inside me, but considering the occasion, I could only hold it in for now. I couldn't let a moment of impulse ruin everything I had worked so hard to establish. I needed to endure and wait for the right opportunity.
Late at night, Han Qingtian finally finished his socializing and took me away from the party. Once we were in the car, he closed his eyes to rest while I sat on the other side, watching the scenery rush by outside the window, my heart filled with mixed emotions. Suddenly, I felt very wronged. I had come from an ordinary world and suddenly found myself in this unfamiliar one, becoming someone else entirely. My family and friends were no longer around. Now, apart from myself, I had nothing.
Tears began to flow down my cheeks without me realizing it, and I quickly wiped them away, hoping Han Qingtian wouldn't see. But he opened his eyes and looked at me with a deep gaze. "What's wrong?"
I shook my head. "It's nothing."
Han Qingtian furrowed his brows. "Are you feeling unwell?"
I shook my head again. "I'm really fine."
Han Qingtian stared at me for a moment, then suddenly reached out and gently brushed away the tear at the corner of my eye.
His movement was light and gentle, making me momentarily dazed.
But in the next second, I snapped back to reality.
I couldn't be deceived by his appearance; he was my enemy.
