"Alright, stop messing around. She's fine, nothing's wrong. Once her phone is back on, she'll see the messages and naturally contact you!" Wu Rong said calmly.
Wu Xin thought for a moment and decided not to insist. If something really happened, her brother should be able to notice it nearby.
"Brother, how come you're suddenly so nice this time? I thought for sure that within a day, I would hear news of you getting rid of Rao Jie. Yet here we are tonight, and to be honest, even though I threatened you and I do plan to continue doing so, I really didn't expect you to give in so easily."
Wu Rong felt a bit awkward and quickly replied, "If everything's fine, then stop talking nonsense. I'm tired."
Before Wu Xin could respond, Wu Rong hurriedly hung up the phone.
At that moment, the IV drip was almost done. Wu Rong glanced at it and pressed the call button.
While waiting, Rao Jie on the bed suddenly moved her lips as if trying to speak.
Wu Rong thought Rao Jie was waking up and leaned in to take a look. Suddenly, Rao Jie reached out and grabbed Wu Rong's collar tightly, pulling as if she wanted to cling onto something just like what had happened at home earlier.
Wu Rong quickly braced herself against the side to avoid being pulled down by Rao Jie. However, this angle happened to be seen clearly by the approaching plump nurse.
"Ah, you dirty pervert!"
"What are you doing! Didn't you say you weren't familiar with her?"
"How dare you take advantage of someone in need! Just wait until I teach you a lesson!"
When Rao Jie woke up, she saw Wu Rong's face completely darkened with anger.
Startled by Wu Rong's grim expression, Rao Jie momentarily couldn't react and just stared blankly at him.
Wu Rong rubbed his shoulder where the plump nurse had slapped him and continued to stare at Rao Jie.
"Awake? Or are you still dazed from the fever?" Wu Rong asked with a frown.
Rao Jie finally snapped back to reality, "Wu... Professor Wu? What happened? Where am I?"
Her memory was still hazy from the moment she left home; everything after that was unclear, so she couldn't grasp where she was.
"Are you really dazed? You fainted from a fever and I brought you to the hospital," Wu Rong explained impatiently.
Rao Jie choked slightly; she only remembered feeling unwell and... She immediately felt embarrassed and tried to sit up but had no strength at all. Instead, she turned on her side towards Wu Rong and attempted to bow her head apologetically, saying, "I'm sorry, Professor Wu. I... I've caused you trouble again; I'm really very sorry."
"It's good that you know you're a troublemaker!" Wu Rong said while rubbing his shoulder, recalling what had happened earlier.
He was originally staying comfortably in the room when he suddenly heard a loud thud from outside, as if something had fallen.
He hurried out to check and saw Rao Jie lying on the floor. From Rao Jie's appearance, it seemed like she was having some kind of emergency. He called out to her a couple of times but got no response, so he had no choice but to crouch down to help her. Unexpectedly, Rao Jie suddenly clung to his shoulders, wrapping her arms around his neck and refusing to let go.
It was as if a drowning person had finally managed to grab onto a piece of driftwood. Wu Rong felt both angry and helpless, and since he couldn't shake her off, he had to pick up Rao Jie and temporarily carry her to the sofa.
However, even on the soft sofa, Rao Jie couldn't find any comfort; she continued to cling tightly to Wu Rong, not letting go. She cried while holding on with all her strength, preventing Wu Rong from escaping.
Wu Rong was so irritated that he wanted to curse. He had a bit of a cleanliness obsession; although it wasn't severe, he didn't like being this close to anyone, whether familiar or unfamiliar.
