"Xiao Fan, the day after your incident, Yulin accidentally overheard something at his mother's door when he was coming home from school. He only caught a few fragments and couldn't be sure of the truth, so he came to find you, Uncle. When he arrived at my house, he was trembling with nerves and could barely speak. After you, Uncle, learned about this, you confronted his aunt (Shen Yulin's mother) and confirmed the truth of the matter." I listened quietly as my aunt recounted the true cause of that incident from ten years ago.
"His aunt always believed she did nothing wrong. No matter how much you tried to reason with her, it was useless. The next day, he brought Shen Yulin, filled with guilt, to kneel before your father. Your father's first demand was for Shen Yulin to never associate with you again. After that, Yulin locked himself in his room for several days, refusing to go out. He would drink when he woke up and sleep when he got drunk. His aunt was going crazy seeing him like that; they argued for several days until you, Uncle, went over and gave him a good beating. Only then did he regain some rationality. The decision to transfer schools was his own; his aunt immediately took action without hesitation, completing all the paperwork that same day. Initially, he didn't want to tell you; he planned to leave directly. But when you begged him for one last meeting, he couldn't resist and agreed."
"After leaving you, his personality changed drastically; he no longer showed any emotions. No one knew what he was thinking. During high school, he skipped straight from freshman year to senior year. By his first year of college, he started a company and became a director of Chengxing Group before graduating. After graduation, Chengxing Group went public. Later on, you learned that he moved the headquarters to B City and returned to your side."
Hearing this made my eyes well up with tears. "Did his father come back?" "No, your uncle has been abroad; I suspect he doesn't know about these events."
"What about Director Ke now?" "Before Shen Yulin moved the Chengxing headquarters, he used some means to send his mother to a mental hospital."
"A mental hospital?" I exclaimed in shock. "Yes, I heard your uncle say that his aunt suddenly demanded Yulin give her 48% of the company's shares and arranged a marriage for him right after graduation. Yulin disagreed; he's not a child anymore and took direct action. His father supported this decision as well."
"His father supports sending his own son’s wife to a mental hospital?"
"Xiao Fan, you don't understand. Yunlin's father chose to stay abroad for this very reason—his mother."
"Auntie, what should I do?" I sobbed into my aunt's embrace as she gently stroked my hair. "Xiao Fan, I don't want to take sides; I just hope you can follow your heart in choosing your path ahead. If you truly can't get past this in your heart, then maybe it's best to separate for now."
"Memories cross mountains and seas; you can enter dreams... If never waking up could change this ending..."
The phone rang incessantly; I reached out and pressed the button to silence it again before turning it off completely. For the next few days, aside from eating, showering, and using the restroom, I stayed in my bedroom almost all the time, staring blankly out the window.
A commotion came from the living room followed by a knock on my bedroom door: "Xingxing, it's me." Zhang Yun's voice came through the door. I got up and opened it. "Oh my God! You've lost so much weight! If you wear that dress Kris lent you too loosely, she'll probably pack her things and leave!"
I forced a smile but didn't respond as she walked over to sit at my desk facing me directly: "I've heard everything from Uncle." I remained silent in a daze.
"Babe, why haven't you answered my calls? Is it because you're feeling down about this situation?" I nodded slightly while curled up on the bed. Zhang Yun sat beside me and hugged me tightly. "Babe, please talk to me; bottling it up like this will make you sick."
Seeing that I still wouldn't speak, Zhang Yun continued: "Babe, you're getting married next Friday! I'm here today to deliver your invitation; will you be my bridesmaid as planned?"
Noticing some emotion on my face, Zhang Yun placed the invitation in my hand. "In this lifetime, we can't cut ties; you're definitely my bridesmaid!" I nodded in agreement.
Later on, I learned that Zhang Yun couldn't reach me by phone and asked Shen Yulin about what happened. She came to see me under the pretense that it was her father who told her everything because she feared hearing Shen Yulin's name would upset me.
My heart was filled with mixed emotions. Zhang Yun gently patted my shoulder. "That's good; I was really worried you'd be overwhelmed by this situation."
I managed a smile through my tears. "I'm not that fragile."
"You always hide your feelings inside. If anything bothers you in the future, please tell me," Zhang Yun urged.
My heart warmed at her words as tears welled up in my eyes again.
