Xue Qiang suddenly fell ill.
There was no warning.
That day, I had finished dinner with him, and he went back to work while I headed to the hospital for a prenatal check-up.
When I returned home, I received a call from the Xue Family, informing me that Xue Qiang was sick.
I was very worried and wanted to see him, but they said I was a jinx and had caused Xue Qiang's illness, so they wouldn't let me see him.

She said, "You should find a hotel to stay in for now; we'll figure something out."

Before Jiang Yuan could respond, Lu Yuan spoke up from the side: "Why don't you both stay at my place? I'm not using it for now."
Jiang Yuan paused and looked at him: "What are you doing?"
Lu Yuan shrugged: "I'm not in Haicheng for the time being; the place is just sitting empty anyway. You can stay there."
Jiang Yuan hesitated for a moment before nodding: "Alright then, I won't be polite."
Lu Yuan's house is in Runhe, very spacious and clean. They prepared a guest room for me to sleep in. But I couldn't sleep at all. All I wanted to know was how Xue Qiang was doing and how the baby was. Jiang Yuan told me to get some rest first, saying we could talk about everything tomorrow. But I simply couldn't fall asleep.
Lu Yuan and Jin Yun had also left, leaving just me and Jiang Yuan in the room. Jiang Yuan looked at me and sighed, "What exactly happened?" I bit my lip and told her about my situation with Xue Qiang. After listening, Jiang Yuan asked, "So, you and Xue Qiang have been together for so long, but you've never met his parents?" I shook my head, "No, he rarely mentions them."
"Then after he got sick, you still haven't seen him?"
"They won't let me see him." I lowered my head, tears streaming down my face. "Jiang Yuan, I'm so scared."
Jiang Yuan paused for a moment, then walked over and hugged me tightly. "Don't be afraid." I held onto her and cried hard in her arms. It had been a long time since I had cried like this.
During this time, I had been alone in Haicheng, with no one to rely on; I had to depend on myself for everything. I couldn't break down. I couldn't let my mother and I starve. So I had to be strong. But now that Jiang Yuan was by my side, it felt like I suddenly had someone to lean on. I could finally relax a bit.
I cried for a long time before finally calming down. Jiang Yuan wiped my tears and gently said, "You should get some sleep; we can talk about everything tomorrow."
"The baby..."
"Worrying about it now won't help," Jiang Yuan said as she looked at me. "You can't reach the Xue family and don't know where the baby is; we can only wait until tomorrow. I'll find someone to help you look into it."
I nodded, "Thank you."
"Then you should sleep."
"I can't sleep."
"Even if you can't sleep, you should try," Jiang Yuan said firmly. "If you don't rest, how will you deal with the Xue Family?"
I was taken aback, staring blankly at Jiang Yuan.
She looked at me, her gaze resolute. "Yunhui, don't worry. I will definitely help you."
Suddenly, my heart felt at ease.
I nodded. "Okay."
I closed my eyes, trying hard to fall asleep.
Jiang Yuan didn't leave; she stayed by my side.
I knew she was worried I might do something rash.
I was grateful to her.
After all these years, she was still as kind as before.
Early the next morning, I got up.
Jiang Yuan had also spent the night on the sofa in the living room.
After washing up, I asked her, "What are your plans for today?"
Jiang Yuan paused before replying, "I have class; I don't have time."
I nodded. "Alright."
"If you feel bored, you can contact Jin Yun and Lu Yuan and let them take you out for a while."
"I don't want to go out; I just want to find the baby."
Jiang Yuan sighed. "I'll do my best."
I nodded again.
Jiang Yuan went off to class.
I stayed at home, waiting for news from Lu Yuan.
As noon approached, Lu Yuan called me: "Yunhui, where are you?"
"I'm at home."
"Come out for lunch; we’ll treat you."
"No thanks," I replied softly. "I don't have an appetite."
"Yunhui, you hardly ate anything yesterday. If you don't eat again today, your body won't be able to handle it," Lu Yuan's voice was filled with concern. "Don't you want to find the baby? Do you want the baby to see you like this?"
Hearing the word "baby," I finally softened.
"Okay."
"Just wait for us at home; we'll come to pick you up."
After hanging up the phone, I changed my clothes and waited for them to arrive.
They came about twenty minutes later.
Lu Yuan was driving, and Jin Yun was in the passenger seat.
I opened the back door and sat down.
Lu Yuan turned to look at me and smiled, "You look a bit better."
I forced a smile in return.
"What do you want to eat?" Lu Yuan asked me.
"Anything."
"Then just follow my lead." Lu Yuan took us to a Japanese restaurant.
I had no appetite at all, but for the sake of the baby, I forced myself to eat a little.
After we finished eating, Lu Yuan asked me, "Can you tell me more specifically?"
"About what?"
"You and Xue Qiang," Lu Yuan said. "I want to know about your relationship."
I pressed my lips together.
Actually, I didn't want to talk about it.
It was my memory alone, a beautiful recollection that belonged only to me.
I didn't want to share it with anyone else.
But Lu Yuan said, "If you don't clarify things with me, how can I help you?"
I was taken aback and stared at him blankly.
