After returning to the room, Yan Jien found that today's restlessness was weaker than on any other day.
After thinking for a moment, Yan Jien understood where the problem lay. Last night, Yan Jien had slept, but today he had not. It seemed that the restlessness was related to his sleep.
"If I keep myself awake, will the restlessness continue to diminish until it completely disappears?"
With this possibility in mind, Yan Jien felt a spark of hope.
"There's only one way to find out!"
Yan Jien took a few deep breaths and then began a series of physical exercises, including push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. He continued training until after six o'clock.
By that time, the restlessness had become very faint; if he didn't pay close attention, he wouldn't have noticed it at all. Additionally, Yan Jien discovered that his stamina recovery rate had also slowed down.
From three-thirty until now, he had been training for over three hours without eating anything, yet Yan Jien didn't feel hungry at all, and his stamina recovery was very slow.
"It seems that the stamina recovery rate is related to whether or not I've slept, just like the restlessness."
After taking a shower, Yan Jien tested his self-healing ability again.
"Sure enough, the healing speed during the day is different from at night," Yan Jien observed as he looked at his wounds. The cut he made around eight last night had healed about one-third by three-thirty this morning, but after staying awake since then, it had only healed about one-fifth by now.
This meant that without sleep, his self-healing speed was nearly halved!
"However, compared to the restlessness and stamina recovery rate, self-healing ability isn't as important."
Yan Jien glanced out the window; it was already bright outside.
"I'll go for a walk and check on my territory."
After getting dressed, Yan Jien prepared to head out.
"I wonder if she is up yet?" he thought as he passed by Yan Weila's room.
"Whatever, I’ll pack a portion for her no matter what she eats." After leaving the rental apartment, Yan Jien headed towards West Lake Park.
Meanwhile, at the Xiufeng Criminal Investigation Team, in Li Yanqiu's office.
"Han Li, we found it!" Li Yanqiu hung up the phone.
"That was fast?" Han Li was surprised.
"I got lucky; I called and someone picked up right away," Li Yanqiu said.
"What did they say?" Han Li asked.
"It’s definitely a Golden Retriever, but it wasn’t lost; it was stolen," Li Yanqiu replied.
"Stolen dog?" Han Li frowned.
"Yeah, the dog's owner is Zhou Yanling, who runs a pet shop. She usually takes her dog to West Lake Park for walks. According to her, around nine o'clock the night before last, she took her dog to the park as usual and let it play in the dog park while she went to a nearby convenience store to buy water. She bought a bottle of mineral water and when she returned, the dog was gone," Li Yanqiu explained.
"Was it drugged and taken away?" Han Li speculated.
"Not sure. Zhou Yanling suspects the dog was stolen because there are many similar dogs in the dog park. If someone used drugs, they wouldn't just knock out her dog," Li Yanqiu said.
"Did she report it to the police?" Han Li asked.
"Yes, she did. The police reviewed the surveillance footage but didn’t find anyone stealing the dog, so they transferred the case to us," Li Yanqiu replied.
"So what we need to do now is watch the surveillance footage?" Han Li asked.
"Exactly," Li Yanqiu nodded.
"West Lake Park is so big with so much surveillance footage; this could take forever," Han Li complained.
"Who knew we’d be so unlucky," Li Yanqiu said as he opened his computer.
"True," Han Li agreed with a nod.
"Let’s start by checking the surveillance from the West Lake Park west entrance and North Gate; Zhou Yanling said she usually enters and exits through those two gates," Li Yanqiu instructed.
"Got it," Han Li said as he opened his computer.
The two began reviewing the footage.
"Huh?" Half an hour later, Li Yanqiu suddenly exclaimed in surprise.
"What's wrong?" Han Li asked.
"Step back a bit," Li Yanqiu said.
"Which video?" Han Li asked.
"The one from the North Gate," Li Yanqiu replied.
"Okay." Han Li rewound the video by several seconds.
"Stop!" Li Yanqiu said.
"What exactly is going on?" Han Li asked, puzzled.
"Does this person look familiar to you?" Li Yanqiu moved the progress bar forward by ten seconds and then pressed pause.
"This person..." Han Li's eyes widened.
"Doesn't he look a lot like Yan Jien?" Li Yanqiu said.
"Yes! That's him!" Han Li exclaimed in surprise.
"I didn't expect that the dog thief would actually be him!" A cold glint flashed in Li Yanqiu's eyes.
