The results of Rao Jie's first cleaning were immediately noticed when Wu Rong returned home and sensed something was off.
"Did you clean up?" Wu Rong asked Rao Jie, who was boiling water at home.
Rao Jie cautiously observed Wu Rong's expression. Although she looked intimidating, it seemed she wasn't angry, so Rao Jie nodded in response.
Wu Rong glanced around and didn't find anything wrong. "Looks like you do have some strengths!"
Rao Jie couldn't help but twitch her lips; she really didn't expect to hear any compliments from Wu Rong.
"You can clean the living room, but absolutely do not enter my room," Wu Rong warned, giving Rao Jie a stern look.
Even though Rao Jie felt grateful towards Wu Rong, that kind of gaze irritated her. What kind of look was that? Was she treating her like a female pervert or a thief? As if she would want to enter her room! She wouldn't even go in if begged!
Just as Rao Jie was getting a bit angry, she saw Wu Rong placing a takeout box on the table, clearly meant for her. All her grievances were swallowed down with her saliva.
Though her mind was swirling with thoughts, Rao Jie maintained a respectful demeanor. Wu Rong was a good person and treated her well; knowing she didn't have much money, she was willing to bring her meals and share instant food. Rao Jie was genuinely grateful, but sometimes Wu Rong's temper could be unbearable—her words could suffocate anyone.
However... regardless of whether Wu Rong was good or bad, they wouldn't be together for long.
"Professor Wu, thank you for your help these past few days. If you don't mind, I can cook dinner today!"
Wu Rong had just set down the takeout and was about to go take a nap when she heard Rao Jie's sudden proposal.
"You cook? Can you?" Wu Rong asked with concern.
Rao Jie replied somewhat proudly, "Yes, I can. If there's anything specific you want to eat, just let me know."
Wu Rong was a bit surprised; it was rare to see Rao Jie confident about something. "Alright then, but I must watch you cook."
"Huh?" Rao Jie was taken aback; what kind of request was that?
Wu Rong explained, "I'm very particular about hygiene when it comes to cooking, so I need to watch you. I'll bring the ingredients back tonight; you just need to prepare them."
Rao Jie wanted to say more, but Wu Rong had already gone back to her room.
Rao Jie wasn't sure if Wu Rong truly didn't trust her or if this was just a way to prevent her from wasting money on groceries.
In the evening, Rao Jie realized that it was actually because he was worried about her.
Rao Jie had never experienced cooking with someone watching her closely the entire time; the pressure was overwhelming, fearing that she might make a mistake and be interrupted by the supervisor. She was nervously sweating in front, while Wu Rong leaned against the kitchen door, watching leisurely.
He had been disgusted by the cooking process of several housekeepers before, which made him particularly sensitive to how others cooked. During this time, when eating out, he always chose restaurants with open kitchens so he could feel at ease watching the food being prepared.
Basically, once he felt comfortable the first time, he wouldn’t mind it afterward. That’s why he insisted on watching Rao Jie cook for the first time.
However, he noticed that Rao Jie’s overall cooking posture was quite pleasing to the eye. Her fair fingers were clean, without any messy nail polish, plump and pink, complementing the colorful vegetables and appearing distinctively tender against the white porcelain dishes.
She had beautiful hands.
Wu Rong found himself staring at her hands until Rao Jie called out to him, snapping him back to reality.
