"Since the children are not fated, let's just call off this marriage," said Qin's Father.
I nodded, "That's true. Someone with my poor taste doesn't deserve your son."
After saying that, I stood up with Qin Guang and walked outside.
He looked unwilling, and so did I.
But both of our parents had rejected it.
On the way home, Qin Guang kept a dark expression, and I couldn't be bothered to pay him any attention.
I took out some paper and a pen to write a letter to Wang An, telling him that I would soon be free and asking him to wait for me.
Qin Guang glanced at the letter in my hand and sneered, "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You say you want to break off the engagement with me, yet you're writing to Wang An. What are you trying to do? Use him to annoy me?"
I shrugged, "I just don't want to lie to you."
Qin Guang was taken aback, "What do you mean?"
I sighed, "To be honest with you, I've never liked you. The only reason I got entangled with you was because of Wang An."
"What did you say?" Qin Guang stared at me fiercely, looking as if he wanted to devour me.
I shrugged again, "It's the truth. Your brother and Wang An are good friends, right? I thought getting close to you would give me a chance to see Wang An."
"You're talking nonsense!" Qin Guang gritted his teeth, "You clearly told me before that you liked me!"
I rolled my eyes, "That was just youthful ignorance. If I had better taste, how could I have fallen for you?"
"Ni Xin!" Qin Guang growled and directly grabbed my wrist.
"Are you pretending to be high and mighty? Is it just because you think I haven't treated you well enough over the years? Now that I realize my mistake, don't you just want me to apologize? Would an apology suffice?"
I forcefully shook off his hand, "Stop disgusting me, okay? You don't deserve me."
"You..."
"Qin Guang," he raised his hand, and I quickly took a step back. However, the anticipated slap did not come down.
A hand tightly gripped Qin Guang's wrist, with distinct knuckles, fair and clean.
It was Wang An.
I was taken aback and looked up to see Li Lin pulling on Wang An's sleeve, standing beside him with a bright smile.
Li Lin wore a light purple long dress, smiling gently and gracefully. "Ni Xin, long time no see."
I frowned slightly. "What are you doing here?"
Li Lin smiled. "My father is friends with Wang An's father, so naturally... I have a good relationship with Wang An as well."
As she spoke, she glanced at Wang An with a hint of flirtation in her eyes.
I was stunned and instinctively looked at Qin Guang; sure enough, his expression darkened even more.
He gripped my wrist tightly, enough that I felt like my bones might break.
"Let go!" I struggled, but Qin Guang only tightened his grip further, making it impossible for me to break free.
Wang An frowned and without saying a word, directly stepped in. He forcefully pried Qin Guang's fingers open one by one and rescued me.
"Quite strong," Wang An scoffed, the sarcasm evident in his voice. "Are you a farmer?"
Qin Guang gritted his teeth. "What does it have to do with you?"
"It doesn't concern me," Wang An glanced at me and said lightly, "but I just can't stand the sight of you."
"You!" Qin Guang angrily pushed me away. I lost my balance and nearly fell to the ground, but thankfully Wang An caught me just in time.
Li Lin hurriedly stepped forward, supporting Qin Guang's arm with a worried expression. "Qin Guang, are you okay?"
Qin Guang raised his hand and brushed Li Lin's hand away dismissively, his attitude extremely rude.
Li Lin looked somewhat embarrassed.
I bit my lip, feeling a bit awkward, and quietly tugged at Wang An's sleeve.
Wang An glanced at me and then picked up the straw hat beside him, placing it on my head.
