Rao Jie wanted to find someone to confide in quickly, and instinctively thought of opening the door to talk to Wu Rong. However, she knew she should be speaking to Wei Qian instead, but for some reason, her mind was racing with thoughts of the previous incident. Just moments ago, she had argued with Wu Rong over this matter, and now that the situation had changed, perhaps sharing it could ease their relationship.
Suddenly, Rao Jie flung open the door, only to freeze in that instant. Wu Rong was standing right at her doorstep, seemingly caught off guard by her sudden action, his expression a bit dazed.
"Professor Wu..." Rao Jie stared at him with her big, round eyes.
Wu Rong noticed the tears in Rao Jie's eyes; she had clearly been crying. Feeling a bit awkward, he asked, "Are you okay?"
Rao Jie was momentarily stunned but quickly snapped back to reality. "Professor Wu, my dad just sent me five thousand yuan! I have money now, I..."
She suddenly stumbled over her words, unsure of how to continue.
Wu Rong observed Rao Jie transition from surprise to silence and felt a bit speechless himself. He shifted into a more relaxed stance, leaning casually against the doorframe. With an air of arrogance, he said nonchalantly, "Well, that's good news. Since you just said I should treat you better, I’ll grant your request."
"Huh?" Rao Jie looked up at Wu Rong in confusion.
Wu Rong slightly curled his lips into a mischievous smile that he had never shown before. His eyes sparkled with mischief as he announced with a hint of pride, "You can stay here as long as you want. Just don’t cause me any trouble or disrupt my life; I’ll accept you."
Rao Jie was stunned.
Wu Rong had expected gratitude in response but was met with her blank stare instead. He frowned slightly in displeasure and raised his voice a bit. "What? Not happy? You can stay here now that you have money. Whether you're preparing for graduate school or looking for an internship, as long as you feel you can't afford to live elsewhere for now, you can temporarily stay here."
Finally reacting, Rao Jie looked up at him with wide eyes and stammered, "Really? You really agree to let me live here?"
Wu Rong didn’t particularly like the term "live together," but he nodded reluctantly. "However, I have some conditions if you..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Rao Jie suddenly rushed forward and hugged him tightly. The force nearly made Wu Rong lose his grip on the doorframe.
"Thank you! Thank you, Professor Wu! You're such a good person; I really... really appreciate it."
Wu Rong felt every hair on his body stand on end and quickly pushed Rao Jie away with all his might, shouting, "Let go! Let go of me! If you don't let go right now, I'll kick you out!"
Rao Jie snapped back to reality from her excitement and quickly released him, her face flushed with embarrassment as she stood there stammering, "I... I just got too happy all of a sudden. I didn't mean to."
Rao Jie couldn't explain it herself; she just got carried away and suddenly lost her rationality in her excitement. The person who had always been so strict with her was suddenly being so nice, as if a pie had fallen from the sky and hit her, leaving her dazed.
In contrast to the pleasantly surprised Rao Jie, Wu Rong began to regret it. However, a word once spoken is like water spilled; since the decision had already been made, there was no turning back. Wu Rong was not someone who would dwell on decisions she had already made.
