After understanding the department's rules and work content, I heard a lot of gossip about Qiu Jin. Everyone said he was the most handsome and youngest associate chief physician in the department. They said his surgeries were clean and efficient, and he was particularly kind to patients, especially devoted to his girlfriend. When I heard these words, my expression stiffened, and my heart was filled with endless sorrow. Yes, he used to treat me that way. But now, everything has changed.
During my familiarization with the department, I had no desire to see Qiu Jin at all. However, since he hadn’t spoken, I couldn’t leave on my own. So, I could only stand at the door of Qiu Jin's office, waiting until everyone had left before he finally sauntered out. When he saw that I was still waiting, he didn’t seem surprised and simply asked, "Is there something you need?"
The director's attitude towards the intern was gentle yet distant. I nodded and said earnestly, "Dr. Qiu, thank you for your help today. I will consult you more often if I have any questions in the future."
Qiu Jin's gaze shifted slightly, but his expression remained unchanged: "Tomorrow your schedule is to organize medical records, not to accompany me on rounds."
I was taken aback: "Huh?" Organizing medical records is tiring and lacks technical skill; it’s usually just bad luck for the intern assigned to it.
Qiu Jin looked down at me: "Do you have any objections?"
"No, no," I quickly shook my head. He seemed like he wanted to say something else but suddenly glanced behind me.
Following his gaze, I turned around and found the director walking over with a smile: "Little Qiu, still not off work?"
"I'm leaving now."
Qiu Jin said, starting to unbutton his white coat, his tone carrying a hint of casual indifference.
I couldn't help but glance at him a couple more times.
The watch on his wrist was the one I gave him for his birthday last year.
Though it wasn't expensive, he had always cherished it.
Now, however, he was wearing a metal-buckled strap.
Indeed, everything had changed.
When we met again, I thought it would be earth-shattering, but it turned out to be so calm and light.
The next day during rounds, I indeed did not see Qiu Jin's figure.
Wang Lina and the others were busy with their respective teachers, while I sat in front of the computer with a thick stack of medical records, entering them one by one.
"Yiqing, Dr. Qiu wants to see you."
I was busy to the point of dizziness when a young nurse came running over to call me.
I looked up in confusion: "What does he want?"
"I don't know."
The nurse shook her head and turned to leave.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, saved my document, and then got up to go to Qiu Jin's office.
The door was closed, so I raised my hand and gently knocked: "Dr. Qiu."
"Come in."
Qiu Jin's voice was cool and distant.
I pushed the door open and saw him sitting in front of the computer, his fingers flying quickly over the keyboard.
"Dr. Qiu, you wanted to see me."
I walked up to his desk.
He didn't look up: "Wait."
I was slightly taken aback and decided to stand still and wait for him to finish.
I waited for half an hour.
Qiu Jin finally finished his work, closed his laptop, and looked at me: “Song Yiqing, are you very free?”
I was taken aback and instinctively shook my head.
“Then why are you still here?”
He frowned slightly: “Didn’t I tell you to wait?”
I...
I was left speechless by his question.
What exactly did he mean?
Qiu Jin didn’t say anything more and just told me to go back to work.
Back at my desk, I rubbed my sore legs and sat down again, immersing myself in the medical records.
After a whole day of work, I hardly saw Qiu Jin.
The next day during rounds, I still didn’t have the privilege to join, so I could only arrive early at the office to organize the medical records.
I understood very well that I was here for my Internship, and no matter what my relationship with Qiu Jin was, it couldn’t affect my work.
