The one in the black clothes, "Shop Explorer," I want to sue him.
Before the lawyer at the firm could study the case, the Restaurant Association contacted me. They knew the truth had come out and understood my demands. They were also willing to assign their lawyer to help me with this small matter.
After meeting with Lawyer Zhang, he told me, "You can sue, but it's likely a civil case."
I didn't understand.
He changed his tone. "What I mean is, at most he might be detained for a few days and pay a few hundred dollars. Criminal detention is impossible. If he had spread rumors about something like a disaster, he might face a heavier sentence, but that's not the case here."
I clenched my fists. "Fine, even if it's just three days, I have to sue him. Why should someone who harmed others get to hide away while an innocent person has to prove their innocence?"
The lawyer nodded and helped me gather a lot of evidence. In the end, we filed a lawsuit against him.
As soon as he received the complaint, "Shop Explorer" called me. I didn't realize it was him and answered directly.
A voice came through on the other end. "It's me! I'm Shop Explorer. Please, let me go! Ever since you posted the Clarification Video and they sent you that official document, my account has been ruined! You can check; I've even deactivated it! I'm done with this internet business!"
I put it on speaker and hesitantly opened his profiles on various platforms. Sure enough, they all stated, "This Blogger has been permanently banned for violating regulations."
For a moment, I didn't know how to respond. Was I really supposed to let it go like this? But when netizens were Cyberbullying me before, he had been watching from behind his phone, enjoying the spectacle.
Seeing my silence, he grew anxious again.
"Big brother, why did you sue me over such a small amount of money? I'm a consumer and a victim too! How was I supposed to know you had been operating for so long? How was I supposed to know about your so-called love noodles? I had no idea! Besides, didn't you take down that sign yourself? Is it really necessary to go this far over a few bucks? Didn't you admit it yourself? You did overcharge me!"
"I watched that video. If I had known you were serious, I wouldn't have posted it. I didn't know! Why are you suing me? Is it really necessary?"
I gritted my teeth.
"You keep saying you didn't know. Just because you didn't know, does that mean you can spread rumors and slander me? Setting aside the facts, this is also partly my fault. But you maliciously edited the video to tarnish my store's reputation. Am I at fault for that?"
"Brother, I understand you want traffic and clicks, but you can't rob Peter to pay Paul, can you? If you're willing to harm others for your own gain, don't be surprised when others target you."
"What do you mean by 'is it really necessary'? Do you have any idea how much damage that video has caused me? My reputation is ruined, our store is ruined—those are secondary concerns. But what if I can't run my business anymore? Who will provide such affordable meals for special groups in this day and age? You just walk away after getting your views and filling your wallet. Have you thought about how others will live in the future?"
He interrupted me.
"Big brother, I don't have time to think about others right now. Please think about us! Because of this incident, my friends and I lost our jobs. They message me to insult me and even sent wreaths and Toads to my house—what even is that? It doesn't bite but it's still annoying!"
I ignored him and continued.
"You never considered that all you cared about was the heat from that video, gaining followers, maybe even getting ads and making money from live streams! What do you know? You don't know anything!"
"I don't care how much you've suffered; that's what you deserve. Did you know when I was suffering? Do you want to see what my store looks like now?"
"You’re affecting not just me but all the patients and their families!"
"You think I won't sue you for Heavenly Principle?"
There was silence on the other end for a long time before he stiffly replied.
"I... I'm sorry, okay? I'll clean up after myself; just go back to running your business... We both have issues here; can we each take a step back? I hope you'll stop escalating this. I've suffered from Cyberbullying too; we're even now!"
I scoffed and hung up.
"You're not even close to understanding."
When the court date arrived, we went as scheduled.
The man in black sat across from us, his attitude completely changed—he was overly respectful, repeatedly admitting guilt, saying he was wrong, and accepting various forms of punishment.
His level of cooperation left the judge bewildered.
Since the situation hadn't escalated too severely, he was only sentenced to three days in detention, fined five hundred dollars, and required to publicly apologize to me on a platform as well as write a handwritten apology letter.
The man in black agreed.
As we were leaving, he held my hand.
"I'm sorry, Brother."
I pulled my hand away and wiped it on him.
"I won't say it's okay because you have disappointed a good person, and I will always remember this."
He said nothing and sighed heavily as he walked out of my sight.
Watching his retreating figure, I pressed my lips together.
Was this a case of a blessing in disguise, or was it just the law of karma in life?
Later, the government and associations, in order to encourage the establishment of more "Compassionate Restaurants" near mining areas and hospitals, specifically designated Red Star Noodle House as a model unit.
Not only did they award me various honors and certificates, but they also sent me a bonus of five thousand yuan.
More importantly, they issued me a certificate for being a "Compassionate Restaurant," which had official markings to prove that the restaurant indeed engaged in acts of kindness.
This plaque is an honor that I will never take down.
At the same time, I reflected on this method and realized it was indeed inappropriate.
Although he edited the recording to slander me, looking at it from another angle, it served as a wake-up call.
I changed the previous default pricing of "ten yuan for normal customers and five yuan for patients" and established a new rule—
the price for noodles would be uniformly set at ten yuan per bowl.
However, this did not mean I would stop being compassionate; instead, we introduced free compassionate noodles.
These compassionate noodles were not funded by me personally but were made possible by kind-hearted individuals who paid for one or several extra bowls to be available for those in need.
Every time someone made a purchase, we would send them a text message as proof.
"On [date] at [time], a patient consumed one portion of the compassionate noodles you reserved. Thank you for your kindness; may good people enjoy peace throughout their lives."
On the opening day, I personally funded a portion of compassionate noodles to be stored in the restaurant.
From then on, most kind-hearted patrons who came to eat would casually buy some compassionate noodles to leave for those in need.
Seeing the growing scale and thriving business, I smiled with satisfaction.
Perhaps this is the true meaning of doing good deeds.
