One day, my parents were not home, so I secretly took some painkillers and idly passed the time by drawing. My best friend came over and said she had a surprise for me. I felt a bit suspicious.
"Come on, just follow me, and I promise you'll be satisfied."
She took me to a Makeup Studio, where she dressed me in a princess gown and did my makeup. Looking at my fairy-like reflection in the mirror, I couldn't help but feel regretful. If I had known that life would start its countdown at 25, I would have lived more freely.
"Let's go, stop admiring yourself."
"Xiaoya, where exactly are you taking me?" I couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.
"You'll find out when we get there; for now, just take a nap." Even at this point, she was still being mysterious.
I could only suppress my curiosity and closed my eyes to rest in the back seat. After a while, the car came to a steady stop in front of the Jiangzhou Sports Center. My friend took a wheelchair out of the trunk and lifted me into it.
"Woo woo woo, such boyfriend material! If you were a guy, Lu Feng wouldn't stand a chance," I joked.
She paused for a moment, gently pinching my cheek with a smile that held an unreadable bitterness: "You really know how to talk!"
As we got closer to the entrance of the sports center, my heart raced faster; my last wish was something my friend clearly understood. For a moment, I felt like crying and looked at her with red eyes, whispering, "Thank you, Xiaoya."
Her expression turned slightly unnatural as she patted my head and spoke in a feigned casual tone: "There's no need for thanks between us."
Entering the sports center and into the backstage makeup room, I saw that face which I wanted to forget but instead found myself longing for even more.
" Lu Feng..."
He turned red-eyed the moment he saw me, then turned away to wipe his tears. My own tears fell unexpectedly. He strode towards me and tightly embraced me, making it hard for me to breathe. I sniffed and pretended to joke, saying, "Let go of me, you're ruining my makeup!"
"Yueyue, I'm sorry..."
"I just wanted to take over the family business quickly, gain their approval, and then find the best doctor for your treatment."
"It was my cowardice; I couldn't hold on to our dreams and lacked the courage to be honest with you."
"But I haven't liked anyone else, nor have I gotten engaged to anyone. I've always loved you, only you..."
He cupped my face, his expression frantic and choked with emotion. I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms as I struggled to swallow my tears. Pretending not to care, I patted his shoulder and said, "It's all in the past; today is our concert, right?"
He nodded vigorously, trying hard to hold back his tears as he said, "Yes, just like before."
"Alright, it's time to get ready for the stage," my best friend timely pushed the door open and urged us.
Lu Feng pushed me forward, each step taken with unwavering determination. My heart raced nervously. He held my hand tightly, rubbing it soothingly, and I gripped back with all my strength.
Once we were on stage, a beam of light shone down on us as the lights in the audience lit up one by one. My parents sat in the front row wearing glowing support headbands and holding light boards cheering for me. A group of fans also erupted into enthusiastic applause. I could hardly hold back my tears.
"Thank you all for coming to our concert; I hope our performance today meets your expectations..." Lu Feng gently began to speak.
In an unexpected turn of events, the atmosphere of the concert was surprisingly good.
Just as I was about to take my final bow, a Taylor Swift song, "Love Story," came to mind.
I was puzzled, but when I turned around, I saw Lu Feng kneeling on one knee, magically producing a bouquet of roses and a diamond ring. His movements were smooth, as if he had rehearsed this countless times.
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone."
"I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run."
"You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess."
"It's a love story, baby, just say yes."
The chorus played, and the atmosphere reached another peak. I stood there in shock, staring at Lu Feng.
"Yueyue, I love you. No matter what happens in the future, I will only love you. Will you marry me?"
Hearing his heartfelt confession brought me to tears.
"Marry him! Marry him!" The audience cheered and clapped, their voices rising in excitement.
I nodded, took the microphone, and said loudly, "I do!"
Lu Feng stood up to embrace me and kissed me.
