"My Fate Is Determined By Me, Not By Heaven," the monk said, "not even Buddha." His voice echoed in front of the dilapidated temple as he walked toward the west, back turned against the glaring sunlight.
In the distance, the western horizon was lined with rolling desolate hills, barren and lifeless, only dotted with grotesque stones eroded by wind and sand. The monk continued his journey westward, enduring the scorching sun and fierce winds without a moment's pause. His tattered robe flapped in the wind as if it might be blown away at any moment, yet he stood tall and resolute like a pine tree rooted in a sheer cliff.
"Master, look! It seems there are people ahead," a rough voice broke the silence of the wilderness.
The monk turned to see a group of fierce-looking monsters surrounding a ragged old man not far away. They waved weapons in their hands, shouting for money and threatening his life.
"Damn it, why does it have to be this bunch," the monk muttered under his breath. He had no intention of getting involved; he just wanted to continue on his way. However, upon seeing the flag they bore, his brow furrowed slightly.
It was a black banner depicting a menacing bull's head, flapping wildly in the wind as if proclaiming its dominance over this wasteland.
"Old man, if you know what's good for you, hand over anything valuable. If we're in a good mood, we might leave you with your whole corpse!" shouted a burly man wielding a mace, his voice grating like a broken gong.
The old man trembled in fear, kneeling on the ground and repeatedly bowing his head in supplication. "Great lords, please spare me! I'm just a passing physician; I truly have nothing of value!"
"Nothing?" The burly man sneered and kicked the old man to the ground. "I see you won't shed tears until you see the coffin!"
"Stop!" The monk shouted angrily. In an instant, he appeared before the burly man and struck his mace away with a swift motion that startled all the monsters present.
"Where did this wild monk come from? How dare you meddle in our affairs?" shouted a scrawny monster, pointing an accusing finger at him.
The monk ignored him and coldly regarded the burly man. "In broad daylight, robbing people and bullying the weak—aren't you afraid of divine retribution?"
“Divine Retribution? Hahaha…” The burly man seemed to have heard the greatest joke in the world, laughing heartily as he looked up to the sky. “In this wilderness, we The Ox family are the heavens, and I am Divine Retribution!”
“What is your name?” the monk asked, his tone icy, as if it came from the Netherworld.
“Listen well, I don’t change my name or my surname. Bull Demon King is my father, and I am called Red Boy!” The burly man, who was Red Boy, said arrogantly, seemingly proud of his lineage.
“Son of Bull Demon King?” A hint of disdain flashed in the monk's eyes. “I thought you were some Three Heads and Six Arms monster; turns out you’re just a spoiled brat relying on your family's legacy.”
“What did you say?” Red Boy immediately flew into a rage. “Do you dare insult me? Do you know who I am?”
“I don’t care who you are,” the monk snorted coldly. “I’ll say it again: let that old man go and get lost!”
“You…” Red Boy was furious and about to explode when an elderly-looking monster beside him stopped him.
“Young Master, do not act rashly.” The old man leaned close to Red Boy and whispered a few words. Red Boy’s expression changed several times before he glared at the monk and gritted his teeth, saying, “You’re something else; we’re leaving!”
With that, he waved his hand and led the group of monsters away.
Once the monsters had gone far, the monk turned around and extended his hand toward the old man. “Elder, are you alright?”
The old man trembled as he reached out his hand, which the monk took to help him up. He looked at the monk with gratitude, tears streaming down his face. “Thank you for saving my life, Benefactor. May I ask how to address you?”
“It was just a small effort; there’s no need to mention it,” the monk smiled faintly. “My name is Sun Wutian.”
“Sun Wutian……” The old man murmured to himself, as if recalling something, his expression suddenly becoming quite strange.
“Sun Wutian……” The old man murmured again, his cloudy eyes widening in shock as if he had seen something unbelievable. His wrinkled face was filled with astonishment and disbelief. “You… you are…”
Sun Wutian frowned slightly and asked, “Elder, do you know me?”
The old man did not answer but instead looked up and down at Sun Wutian, his gaze sweeping over him as if trying to see through him.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable under the old man's scrutiny, Sun Wutian instinctively took a step back and asked, “Elder, what is wrong with you?”
The old man took a deep breath and slowly said, “You… you really are Sun Wutian? Five hundred years ago, the one who caused a ruckus in Heaven, Great Sage Equal to Heaven Sun Wukong, what is your relation to him?”
A jolt ran through Sun Wutian’s heart. This old man actually knew about events from five hundred years ago? Could it be… he is truly someone from that time?
“Elder, who exactly are you?” Sun Wutian asked in a low voice, his tone carrying a hint of caution.
The old man sighed and said, “Elderly Man is indeed the land of Flower-Fruit Mountain. Back when your master…” He paused for a moment, seemingly realizing he had misspoken, and quickly corrected himself. “Back when Great Sage Equal to Heaven was still at Flower-Fruit Mountain, Elderly Man accompanied him and witnessed his glory firsthand.”
“The land of Flower-Fruit Mountain?” A thought struck Sun Wutian, recalling the deeply rooted memories of Flower-Fruit Mountain in his mind—the peach trees sprawling across the mountains, the lively and adorable monkeys, the carefree life…
“Elder, you say you are the land of Flower-Fruit Mountain? How did you end up here?” Sun Wutian asked, his tone laced with confusion.
The old man’s tears flowed freely as he pointed into the distance and said, “Ever since five hundred years ago when Great Sage was trapped beneath Five Finger Mountain, Flower-Fruit Mountain has been occupied by that scoundrel Bull Demon King. Elderly Man was driven out by him and has been wandering ever since. I never expected to encounter the descendant of Great Sage here today…”
The land fell silent, but Sun Wutian had already understood his meaning.
"You mean, I... I am the reincarnation of Sun Wukong..." Sun Wutian took a deep breath, and fragments of memories began to piece together in his mind, forming a complete picture: a figure clad in golden armor, wearing a phoenix-winged crown, stepping on cloud-soled shoes, holding the Ruyi Jingu Bang, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, standing proudly among the clouds, looking down upon the world.
"You mean, I am his reincarnation?" Sun Wutian murmured, waves of shock surging within him.
The land nodded and said, "Although the Elderly Man's powers are limited, he can see that you possess the same bloodline as the Great Sage. You are the reincarnation of the Great Sage and the hope of the Three Realms!"
Sun Wutian fell silent; he didn't know what to say. Should he admit that he was Sun Wukong's reincarnation? However, he held no fondness for Sun Wukong; in fact, he felt some disdain because he thought Sun Wukong was too impulsive and reckless, which led to him being trapped under Five Finger Mountain by Tathagata for five hundred years.
"Wutian, are you really Sun Wukong's reincarnation?" At that moment, a voice descended from above. Taibai Jinxing appeared, stepping on clouds as he slowly landed.
"Taibai Jinxing, what brings you here?" Sun Wutian asked.
Taibai Jinxing stroked his beard and replied, "Since you left the Heavenly Court, the Jade Emperor has tasked me with keeping an eye on your movements. Today, I calculated that you have a connection with Sun Wukong, so I hurried over."
"I see." Sun Wutian nodded, not surprised; given the Heavenly Court's capabilities, monitoring his every move was not difficult at all.
"Wutian, since you are Sun Wukong's reincarnation, you should take on his responsibilities. Rebuild Flower-Fruit Mountain, rescue your monkey descendants, and protect peace in the Three Realms!" Taibai Jinxing said.
