After dinner, I, who had already changed clothes, stayed at the bar and used the computer to search for information on how to get along with cats. Mr. Qi was conducting routine checks in the sample display room.
"Ding dong~" The doorbell rang.
I quickly raised my head, only to see that it was Miss Fang from last time.
"Uh, what should I call you?" Although she already knew I was a boy, seeing me in a maid outfit seemed to confuse her.
"Just call me Xiao Chen." I smiled and asked her to sit on the sofa. After pouring her a glass of water, I asked her to wait for Mr. Qi to come out.
"Mr. Qi! Miss Fang is here." I stood at the door of the sample display room, and at that moment, Mr. Qi was wiping the glass cabinet containing the Annabelle doll (a famous haunted doll). Upon hearing me call, he answered that he would be right out.
After a while, Mr. Qi came back.
"Miss Fang, do you need anything?"
"It's like this, I discussed it with Xiao Lin, and we still plan to resolve this matter," Miss Fang said seriously to us.
"Why do you want to resolve this matter now? Actually, as long as you move out, it's fine," Mr. Qi asked, turning his head to the side.
"Indeed, we did consider just moving away, after all, both of us were quite frightened. However, after all these days, I always feel that this voice sounds very anxious and also very sad. It's probably related to my being a nurse, and I am more sensitive in this regard. Then I also feel sorry if we just leave. I shared this thought with Xiao Lin, and he also thinks the same," Miss Fang said, leaning back on the sofa and sighing deeply.
"Miss Fang, you are the first person I have encountered who shows compassion for disturbing supernatural events," Mr. Qi said with a smile. It was the first time I had seen Mr. Qi's eyes, which usually looked tired, filled with a smile and a lively spirit. I couldn't help but be amazed.
"Is that so? Honestly, I have also been doubting if I'm going crazy."
"Most people think that way when they encounter supernatural events for the first time."
Miss Fang and Mr. Qi had a late conversation, and Mr. Qi asked me to drop Miss Fang off outside the residential area.
"By the way, Xiao Chen, can I ask you some questions?" Miss Fang asked as we walked along the road.
"Sure."
"Why do you want to wear women's clothing?"
"Sure enough, you would ask that question—"
"There are too many reasons, I can't say them all at once," I scratched my head.
"Have you heard of cross-dressing fetish?" Miss Fang seemed a bit embarrassed as she mentioned it.
"I have heard of it, but it's not my thing."
"But this is your personal life, I don't need to ask too much... Also, how long have you been with Mr. Qi? Why did you decide to work in the supernatural field? You should still be in school, judging by your age."
"Yes, I am still in school. As for why I chose to work in the supernatural field, it's hard to explain right now. But after this weekend when I go with Mr. Qi to your place, you will understand some things."
"Is that so? Then I'm really looking forward to it," Miss Fang smiled.
After saying goodbye to Miss Fang, I deliberately went around to Mr. Zhang's side and found that there was no cat food on the ground.
Did the cat eat the cat food? But I found that Mr. Zhang is still far away from the cat, and his eyes look lonely...
"Mr. Zhang? Did the cat eat the food?" I asked.
"No, I put all the feed back in here," Mr. Zhang pointed to the packaging bag next to him. "It's not good to keep putting it on the ground."
It seems like Mr. Zhang is particularly attentive to this cat, I can feel it from his actions.
"I really wanted to have a cat when I was alive, but I'm allergic to cats. It was so difficult for me to get close to a cat when I was alive. I never expected that after I died, I would be in this state and unable to get close to a cat, just like being guarded by it." Mr. Zhang shrugged, looking even more dejected!
I hurried to comfort Mr. Zhang, assuring him that things would work out.
On Saturday morning, school was closed, and I was waiting on the street with Mr. Qi for Miss Fang to come and pick us up to go to their apartment.
"Mr. Qi, do you know how to improve the relationship between a cat and a spirit?"
Due to being very concerned about Mr. Zhang, I didn't fall asleep until late last night, but I also didn't think of any better solution. I feel sorry for Mr. Zhang.
"There's no other way, he can only rely on his own patience, but..." Mr. Qi touched his lower lip.
"What else?"
"The cat didn't escape, did it? And at most, it just hissed at Mr. Zhang a few times, without attempting any aggressive behavior towards him. This shows that there is still hope for a good relationship. At the very least, it indicates that Mr. Zhang is somewhat accepted by the cat."
"Said and done..." I nodded, indeed that cat didn't seem to show any more hostility towards Mr. Zhang.
Just then—
"Dudu."
Miss Fang waved at us from the roadside as she opened the car window.
Ah - I was just about to greet Miss Fang, but something on the car made me retract my greeting.
"What's wrong?" Miss Fang noticed my unusual expression and asked in confusion.
"Ah, it's nothing, it's nothing. I didn't sleep well last night and I feel a bit dizzy," I waved my hand repeatedly.
On the way to the apartment where Miss Fang lives, Mr. Qi looked around the car.
"This car is quite old, isn't it?"
"Yeah, this is the car that Xiao Lin's father bought."
"Oh--"
"A few years ago, Xiao Lin's father got into a car accident and died on the spot. The car was also nearly totaled from the crash. Mr. Lin insisted on spending a high price to repair the car, and I thought it couldn't be fixed properly. I didn't expect that it would still run so smoothly afterwards, almost like it was just bought not long ago. To be honest, it's quite unbelievable."
I nodded thoughtfully, feeling like I had understood something.
After about half an hour, we arrived in front of an old-fashioned apartment building that looked quite old.
After getting off the car, Miss Fang pointed to an open window on the fourth floor and said to us, "That's it."
I looked in the direction Miss Fang pointed and saw a small boy leaning out of the window looking at us. He quickly disappeared after noticing me looking at him.
"Miss Fang, how old are you and Mr. Lin this year?" I asked.
"I'm 28, Mr. Lin is 27, what's the matter?"
"So, you two don't have children yet, right?"
"Well, we haven't even gotten married yet, so how could we have any?" Miss Fang blushed as soon as she heard my question.
"Excuse me, do you have a 6 or 7-year-old boy living with you? Or do you know a child of that age who often comes to your house to play?" I deliberately emphasized the age a little bit in my tone.
"No, why do you ask?" Miss Fang seemed very puzzled.
Mr. Qi glanced at me, knowing that I had discovered something, and then said to Miss Fang:
" Xiao Shin saw something, but are you sure you can accept what he's going to say later? It's about the reason for the strange condition of your house."
"Is that so—" Miss Fang swallowed, as if preparing herself mentally, and then said, "No problem, go ahead."
"Okay, I just saw a little boy, probably 6 or 7 years old, peeking into your room from the window. If he's not a child related to you, then he's the reason for the supernatural events you've encountered, meaning he's a spirit."
"Spirit body?" Miss Fang widened her eyes, not immediately understanding the meaning of my words, so I explained to her.
"Spirit body is what is commonly referred to as a soul, a ghost, or a spirit. However, because it is still in the first stage and does not yet have the ability to materialize, it can only be seen by a few people with special vision."
"That, Xiao Chen, can you see—" Miss Fang pointed at me.
"Yes, because I have the ability of spiritual vision, I can see spirits at various stages," I nodded and smiled.
"As for the spirit that Xiao Shin saw lingering in your house, it can only make you aware of its presence but you cannot see it, because it is only in the first stage."
Mr. Qi took over the conversation.
"Speaking of which... the voices that I and Xiao Lin always hear, although we can't make out the words, do sound like they're coming from a child. I didn't realize it was this young."
"It seems like something must have happened here before you moved in." Mr. Qi looked at the window of Miss Fang's room and stroked his chin.
After a while, we arrived at the room where Miss Fang lived.
"It's really strange, that kid is gone. It seems like he knew I could see him, so he hid. Although I can still feel his presence," I said to Mr. Qi and the others in the living room after searching both Miss Fang's and Xiao Lin's rooms.
"What should we do now? What if we can't see him today?" Miss Fang asked with some concern.
"It's possible, and it's quite normal. Isn't it often the case that explorers and scientists who go to rumored haunted places for exploration end up with nothing?" Mr. Qi said to Miss Fang.
"Oh, I see..."
