In the evening, not only was a big meal prepared, but there was also a whole cake. However, when Rao Jie started cleaning Professor Wu's room that night, the psychological defenses she had built up began to crumble. Wu Rong's room was very different… extremely different.
She had originally thought it would be a minimalist and elegant space, filled with cool tones that matched his appearance. But upon entering, she found the room cluttered with crumpled papers and drafts, books haphazardly placed on the shelves, and one wall completely bare except for a large expanse of whiteboard that could be erased and written on.
Rao Jie stood at the door with her cleaning tools, stunned for a full minute before accepting reality. What she had planned to clean in fifteen minutes now seemed like it would take an hour.
Patiently, Rao Jie began to clean, but it wasn't long before Professor Wu's demands started pouring in…
Two hours later, Rao Jie finally understood why she had been blacklisted in the domestic service industry in Shencheng.
"Hey, there's this too."
Rao Jie held up both hands to catch the items Wu Rong threw at her, which were piled so high they nearly obscured her face, and her arms began to tremble slightly.
"Hold it properly! Sort it out, don't get it dirty or bent, and arrange it alphabetically!"
"Am I here to clean or to be your servant?" Was he really that demanding?
"What's wrong? You seem a bit dissatisfied with me?"
Rao Jie forcibly wiped the displeasure off her face and turned to put the items away. However, the places where these items needed to go were too high for her reach. She barely managed to stretch up.
She thought about asking Wu Rong for help, but just imagining what he might say made her reconsider; it was better to rely on herself.
Straining on her tiptoes to place the items, she grabbed the edge of the cabinet for support. Unexpectedly, she didn’t realize that the cabinet was unstable; as she pushed down hard, the entire bookshelf wobbled and then tipped toward her. In an instant, books came crashing down like a rainstorm.
"Ah!"
"Idiot!"
"That was too dangerous! Are you really that foolish? Clumsy in both mind and body?"
Wu Rong braced himself against the bookshelf, his tall frame blocking Rao Jie from being hit by the falling books. One hand supported himself while the other wrapped around Rao Jie, who was about to topple over from being struck by the books.
Rao Jie was stunned by this sudden situation; her heart raced uncontrollably and she felt unsteady. Yet at that moment, the masculine aura surrounding her gradually made her feel more at ease. His strong arms and slightly heaving chest shielded her from danger.
"Hey! You idiot! Why are you still dazed at a time like this? Get up quickly! I can't help you like this!"
The sound of scolding exploded in her ears, and Rao Jie was suddenly brought back to reality, hurriedly stabilizing herself.
Wu Rong only released the hand that had been wrapped around her waist once Rao Jie was steady. Without Rao Jie in the way, Wu Rong easily pushed the bookshelf back to its original position. However, all the books on the shelf fell down.
The two of them stood silently amidst a pile of fallen books.
"You..." Wu Rong began coldly.
Rao Jie immediately turned to apologize, but Wu Rong was quicker, delivering a sharp knock on her forehead.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed? If I hadn't been close just now, do you know what could have happened? How can you be so careless!" Wu Rong scolded fiercely.
Yet, Rao Jie felt a bit happy as she touched her forehead. Was Wu Rong actually concerned about her? Even if she sounded fierce...
"Do you have any complaints about me giving you orders? Are you trying to take revenge on me? What if you got crushed and blood splattered on my precious books and experimental reports?"
Rao Jie: ...
She really wanted to hit her!
