Xinping came out of Liu Jinming's house and went to a nearby hospital to treat the wound on her arm.
"Hey, what happened?"
A familiar voice rang out.
Xinping looked up and saw a sharply defined face.
"Brother," she greeted weakly, "what are you doing here?"
Ma Ziming raised an eyebrow, "Shouldn't I be asking you that? Who hit you?"
"No one," Xinping lowered her head, "I accidentally hurt myself."
"Accidentally hurt yourself?" Ma Ziming scoffed, "You're really pathetic, getting hit and not daring to fight back."
"It's not that I don't dare to fight back," Xinping explained, "I just can't be bothered."
"You got hit and you're too lazy to fight back?" Ma Ziming's eyes widened, "Xinping, are you feeling okay?"
Xinping rolled her eyes at him, "You're the one who's not okay."
"Alright then," Ma Ziming shrugged, "since you don't care, I won't bother with you either."
"But," he changed his tone, "aren't you going to get some revenge?"
"Revenge?" Xinping was taken aback, "Revenge on whom?"
"Who else could it be? Of course it's that bastard who hit you!"
Xinping shook her head, "Forget it, I've already broken up with him."
"Broken up?" Ma Ziming was surprised, "When did this happen?"
"Just now."
"Just now?" Ma Ziming was even more astonished, "Are you kidding? You got beaten up like this and you're still so calm?"
"What else should I do?" Xinping pouted, "Am I supposed to go after him for an explanation?"
"Of course!" Ma Ziming glared at her, "If you don't take action, I will!"
"Hey, no!" Xinping quickly stopped him, "Don't stir up trouble."
"What trouble am I stirring up?" Ma Ziming huffed, "I'm your brother. If someone bullies you, it's only right for me to stand up for you!"
Xinping forced a smile and said, "I know you mean well, but I really don't want to dwell on it anymore."
"I don't want to let it go; I do!" Ma Ziming insisted firmly. "You tell me who hit you, and I will make sure to teach him a lesson!"
"Brother," Xinping pleaded, "I'm begging you, please don't get involved, okay?"
"No way!" Ma Ziming refused to back down. "If you don't tell me today, I'll investigate it myself!"
"You..." Xinping felt helpless.
She knew Ma Ziming's temperament; he was resolute and would not give up easily. If he was determined to find out, no amount of persuasion would change his mind.
"It was Liu Jinming's daughter," Xinping said softly. "She bit me."
"Liu Jinming's daughter?" Ma Ziming's eyes widened in shock. "When did you have a daughter?"
Xinping rolled her eyes. "She's not my daughter; she's Liu Jinming's daughter."
"Liu Jinming's daughter?" Ma Ziming was even more astonished. "Do you have a boyfriend now?"
Xinping nodded slightly. "I did, but we broke up."
"Why did you break up?" Ma Ziming pressed on.
"Because he cheated."
"He cheated?" Ma Ziming's eyes widened again. "He cheated on you, and you still broke up with him?"
"What else could I do?" Xinping countered. "Should I stay with him?"
"You..." Ma Ziming pointed at Xinping, speechless with anger.
Xinping smiled lightly. "It's fine, brother; I'm okay now, so you don't need to worry."
Ma Ziming glared at her for a long time before finally managing to say, "You're really quite pathetic."
Liu Jinming was born in a remote and underdeveloped village in the south.
The village had a strong preference for sons over daughters, with families often having many children, most of whom were girls.
Liu Jinming was the only college student in the village for over a decade; he had seventy-year-old parents, a young grandson, and four sisters all named “X Di.”
Liu Jinming often said that men are heaven and women are earth.
Men can hit women, but women cannot hit men.
He is the pillar of the family, bearing the weight of all responsibilities on his shoulders.
