Just as Xinping was about to charge again, the door suddenly swung open.
Her brother appeared at the doorway, looking anxious. Upon seeing Liu Jinming, his expression darkened.
"How dare you bully my sister!" he shouted angrily and rushed forward to hit him.
With each punch landing squarely on Liu Jinming's face, Xinping finally exhaled, stepping back to watch the scene unfold like a spectator.
"Stop hitting him," she reminded her brother. "The criminal act has already stopped; if you keep going, it won't be self-defense anymore."
Her brother was caught up in the moment, feeling a bit reluctant to stop, but he eventually ceased his assault.
"Just wait; this isn't over!"
Xinping pointed out, "It's already finished."
"Huh?" Her brother looked confused.
Xinping took out her phone: "I'm calling the police."
Taking a deep breath, she dialed the emergency number.
The police arrived quickly and first took me and my brother to the hospital.
Liu Jinming had suffered a fractured leg from the beating, and I had quite a few bruises myself.
After assessing our injuries, it was determined that Liu Jinming had sustained minor injuries while I had only slight injuries.
Since her brother was acting to prevent a crime, he faced no penalties.
All of my medical expenses would be covered by Liu Jinming.
By the time all the evidence and statements were completed, dawn was breaking.
I was utterly exhausted, and my brother drove me back to our parents' house.
When our parents saw us return, they were both surprised and delighted.
"Why are you back at this hour?" Mom asked with a smile. "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you."
I forced a smile: "Mom, I'm just too tired; I want to go back to my room and sleep for a bit."
Mom nodded, "Alright, go to sleep."
After I returned to my room, my brother pulled our parents into the study, looking mysterious, and I had no idea what they were discussing.
I slept all the way until the afternoon.
When I groggily woke up, I felt extremely hungry. As soon as I stepped out of my room, I was greeted by a rich aroma of food. The dining table was filled with various dishes, and my parents and brother were sitting there waiting for me.
Seeing me come out, Mom smiled and called out, "Are you hungry? Go wash your face quickly; it's time to eat."
I nodded obediently.
At the dinner table, Mom asked me with red eyes, "Xinping, we know about your situation..." She sighed and choked up, unable to continue.
Dad's eyes also turned red as he changed the subject, saying, "Let's eat first; we can talk about this after dinner."
My brother couldn't hold back and said, "That guy is really something else!" He slammed his hand on the table.
Dad shot him a glare, "Speak properly; don't scare your sister."
"Mom and Dad, don't worry; I won't let him off," I put down my chopsticks and solemnly promised, "I will make him pay for what he has done."
"Right," my brother agreed, "He must pay the price."
"I've already contacted Lawyer Liu," Dad said. "He made such a big mistake; he has to go to jail."
I nodded and reminded him, "Dad, only after he is held criminally responsible can our company terminate his employment contract; otherwise, it would be illegal."
"I know," Dad nodded. "You study law; you understand this best."
I smiled and said, "Of course, I want to use the legal knowledge I've learned to protect myself."
When the police were investigating, they searched Liu Jinming's phone. When the kind officer showed me the chat records, I was so angry that my hands were shaking. Liu Jinming detailed all his criminal activities and even told his mother everything about me.
