"Why are they doing this?" Lin Lu asked anxiously, her gaze sweeping over the desolate bushes around them, a wave of unease rising in her heart.
Lin Xuemin did not answer directly but instead looked into the distance, where a dilapidated fisherman's hut stood. A few wooden beams were slanted, propping up the roof, which looked ready to collapse at any moment.
"You know, the production team often uses cheap props to cut costs, and here..." Lin Xuemin pointed to the fisherman's hut, his tone heavy. "I suspect they have taken advantage of this environment to deliberately fabricate some clues and lead us in the wrong direction."
Following her brother's gaze, Lin Lu suddenly remembered a blurry image from last night's program trailer. It seemed there was a figure moving near the fisherman's hut, and she vaguely felt that the silhouette looked familiar, but she couldn't recall who it was.
"Brother, do you think that person could be Chen Xue?" Lin Lu murmured to herself. She recalled Chen Xue's calculating and malicious gaze during the bonfire party, which sent a chill down her spine.
Lin Xuemin did not deny it. He keenly picked up on Lin Lu's doubts in her words. He smiled slightly, his tone relaxed yet with a hint of cunning. "Maybe so; after all, she is the one who most wants us to lose the competition."
Lin Lu fell silent. She knew her brother had a point; all she wanted now was to find the treasure chest and win the competition.
"Let's go take a look," Lin Xuemin said before turning towards the fisherman's hut, with Lin Lu following closely behind.
As Lin Xuemin walked ahead, he observed the surroundings while explaining his plan to Lin Lu. "We'll pretend to search for the treasure chest in the hut according to the clues provided by the production team. But in reality, I will use footage captured by a drone to fabricate some false clues and quietly guide Chen Xue and Li Xue to chase those fake leads."
Lin Lu looked up at her brother, somewhat puzzled. "Brother, can this really work? What if Chen Xue discovers the truth?"
"Don't worry," Lin Xuemin reassured her with a pat on her shoulder, his tone light. "I've arranged for someone to secretly look for the real treasure chest. As long as we can keep Chen Xue and Li Xue's attention occupied, finding the treasure is just a matter of time." As he spoke, he gently toyed with the drone's controller, his gaze firm as if he was confident in his plan.
Seeing her brother's confident smile, Lin Lu's unease gradually faded away. She nodded in agreement.
Two people stopped at the entrance of the fishing hut. Lin Xuemin adjusted the angle of the drone, aimed the camera at the door of the hut, and pressed the record button.
"Brother, what are you planning to do?" Lin Lu asked softly, her eyes fixed on her brother's actions.
"Shh, don't talk," Lin Xuemin signaled for his sister to be quiet. He gently pushed open the door of the fishing hut, revealing a dilapidated interior filled with clutter, making it look chaotic. Lin Xuemin scanned the environment inside, a slight smile appearing on his lips as if he had discovered something.
Lin Lu nervously watched her brother, confused by his sudden smile. She asked curiously, "Brother, what did you find?"
"Don't worry, I've already found a clue. We're going to follow it now!" Lin Xuemin said as he picked up the drone and pointed the camera at a tattered fishing net hanging on the wall. The edge of the net was attached to a wooden plaque with several indistinct characters written in brush strokes. "‘Treasure, Dongshan,’ this should be a hint pointing to the treasure."
Lin Lu carefully examined the characters on the plaque, trying hard to decipher them. However, due to their obscurity, she could only barely make out a few words.
"What does it say, brother?" Lin Lu asked, her tone tinged with urgency.
