She knew that their plan had taken the first successful step. The grass of the Royal Hunting Ground was bathed in golden sunlight.
"Do you know why I invited you to team up with me, Grand Tutor?" the Seventh Prince asked, riding alongside on his chestnut horse.
"Why?"
The Seventh Prince confidently shot an arrow, his tone carrying a deeper meaning. "Because I believe that our collaboration guarantees a winning situation! Don't you agree, Grand Tutor?"
Jian Ming smiled slightly and replied, "Your Highness, it is an honor to serve you."
At the entrance of the hunting ground, Jian Ming and the Seventh Prince dismounted together, and the attendants quickly stepped forward to take the reins. The two walked side by side into the hunting ground.
The Seventh Prince turned back and said, "Grand Tutor, see you tomorrow. Don't forget that we are a pair for this hunt!"
Jian Ming nodded, "Your Highness, I will not disappoint your expectations."
As the horn sounded, the autumn hunt officially began. A strong stag appeared in their line of sight. The Seventh Prince drew his bow tightly while Jian Ming observed the surroundings to ensure there was no danger.
"Now is the time, Your Highness!" Jian Ming's calm voice came through.
The arrow struck true. Cheers erupted in the hunting ground as a proud smile spread across the Seventh Prince's face.
"Jian Ming, you are my right-hand man," the Seventh Prince exclaimed excitedly, patting Jian Ming on the shoulder.
On a forest path, the Emperor, Third Prince, and Seventh Prince rode together, their faces glowing with excitement from the hunt. Suddenly, a piercing whinny broke the tranquility of the woods. The Emperor's mount reared up suddenly, throwing him to the ground.
Immediately following was the panicked shout of the Seventh Prince: "Someone! Protect His Majesty! Father is injured—"
The guards and attendants rushed over, only to find the Emperor lying on the ground, his face pale and with a clear arrow wound in his leg.
"Father, are you okay?" The voice of the Seventh Prince trembled.
The Emperor gritted his teeth, enduring the excruciating pain. "Quick, take me back."
The chaos from the hunting grounds quickly spread throughout the palace.
The Empress and Noble Consort Rong were arguing fiercely inside the Emperor's tent.
"This must be the Third Prince's scheme! He has always been jealous of Your Majesty's favor towards my son!" Noble Consort Rong scolded, her eyes filled with anger and suspicion.
The Empress responded with a cold laugh, "Who knows if you are the one manipulating everything behind the scenes?" Her tone was laced with obvious distrust.
Inside the Emperor's tent, the atmosphere was tense to the extreme.
"Your Majesty, how do you feel?" an older imperial physician asked softly.
The Emperor took a deep breath and slowly said, "I am fine, but this matter must be thoroughly investigated."
The palace guards quickly sprang into action, conducting a meticulous search of the hunting site.
After a while, they discovered some crucial clues: an arrow stained with the Emperor's blood and several badges belonging to the Third Prince's personal guards.
The Emperor's gaze was as sharp as a blade, directed at the kneeling Seventh Prince Yonghe.
"These are the Third Prince's badges, and there is my blood on this arrow. Seventh Prince Yonghe, what do you have to say for yourself?" The Emperor's voice was filled with anger and disappointment.
Seventh Prince Yonghe's face turned pale as he trembled and replied, "Father, this must be a misunderstanding; I would never harm you."
The Emperor snorted coldly, "A misunderstanding? Then tell me why your badge was found at the scene of the assassination?"
Yonghe was drenched in cold sweat on his forehead as he hurriedly explained.
"Father, the badge may have been stolen by someone to frame me. I have a close relationship with third Brother, and people often confuse our belongings."
