Rao Jie half-opened her mouth, taking a long time to swallow the question that was stuck in her throat.
Wu Rong, with a calm demeanor, said, "I need an assistant to help me gather materials and organize things for a paper I'm preparing."
Sure enough...
Rao Jie chuckled awkwardly, "But my math skills are so poor; how can I be your assistant?"
"You just need to recognize words."
"...I remember that the head of the Mathematics Department is your friend, right? And you were specially invited back as a professor. Surely there would be plenty of graduate students willing to be your assistant. Besides, isn't this kind of work usually done at school?"
Wu Rong's expression suddenly turned a bit gloomy. "The school isn't as safe as home. It's more reassuring to find an assistant who doesn't understand math."
Rao Jie looked at Wu Rong in confusion.
Wu Rong quickly composed himself and said, "We'll start tonight; I'll explain the problems to you!"
"Oh!"
Wu Rong had many quirks; for instance, he absolutely refused to study at the dining table because that was where he ate. He also didn't want to enter her room unless necessary, as he didn't intrude on others' private spaces. Even more so, he was reluctant to have her math materials in his room, as if they would tarnish the purity and nobility of his mathematical resources.
So they could only study on the coffee table in the living room. To make it easier to move around, Rao Jie had to sit on the carpet and lean over the coffee table to write exercises. Meanwhile, Wu Rong elegantly sat on the sofa, looking down at her from above.
However, Rao Jie had to admit that what Wu Xin said was true. Wu Rong's teaching method was indeed very special; it felt like he performed surgery on her brain. The chaotic thoughts she had before were clarified through just a few exercises, giving her a sense of enlightenment and clarity.
It seemed like all those years of studying math were in vain; she never realized that one problem could lead to so many knowledge points. He could casually write down similar or extended types of problems for her to solve, creating a clear thread of knowledge that left her with no doubts whatsoever.
An hour of explanations felt like attending a semester's worth of math classes; it was truly magical and made Rao Jie feel like she was dreaming. The way he explained math was completely different... This was what the world looked like in the mind of a mathematical genius, as simple as solving one plus one.
As she listened, Rao Jie began to stare blankly at Wu Rong.
She looked up at him, once again confirming that Wu Rong was indeed very handsome, the kind with striking features. When he was seriously lecturing, he wasn't fierce, just a bit serious.
From below, one could clearly see his long eyelashes, thick and curled, fluttering slightly with each blink. The light gathered in his eyes, sparkling like the marbles she loved as a child. He focused intently on the problem, his pale pink lips moving up and down as he spoke in a deep, steady voice. Though devoid of strong emotion, it captivated listeners' thoughts, making their minds turn along with his words.
His long hands held the test paper in one and a pen in the other, effortlessly marking through one difficult question after another, revealing the simplest and clearest framework to Rao Jie’s eyes. If he wasn’t intimidating, this version of Professor Wu was truly charming.
"This is how you solve it. Do you understand?" Wu Rong looked over at her, his gaze suddenly sharp like two knives. He narrowed his eyes slightly and asked, "Were you daydreaming?"
