After school, I walked home with Gaoyuan. I took him through a shortcut I had discovered. We passed through alley after alley, and eventually, I took a wrong turn.
"I'm sorry, I... I'm directionally challenged," I said apologetically.
Gaoyuan looked at me, a faint smile forming at the corners of his mouth. "I know."
"You know?"
"Yeah." He nodded, "The serious look on the little rabbit's face is really cute."
I was taken aback, my cheeks flushing. "Little rabbit" was his special nickname for me, and every time he called me that, my heart would race.
"Let's go," Gaoyuan said.
"Ah? Where to?" I asked.
"To find a road you recognize," Gaoyuan replied.
"Oh." I nodded and continued walking with him.
As we passed through the alley, I suddenly heard some sounds. It was the moaning of a girl and the heavy breathing of a boy.
I stopped in my tracks, holding my breath and not daring to make a sound. Gaoyuan also halted, his expression turning cautious.
We looked at each other without speaking.
"Um... don't touch there..."
"Hurry up, what are you hesitating for?"
"But... there are people here."
"Isn't it more exciting because there are people? Don't you think?"
This kind of conversation was definitely not suitable for us to hear. I wanted to pull Gaoyuan away, but it was too late. He had already seen it.
He saw a couple getting intimate in the alley. The guy had the girl pressed against the wall, his hand slowly moving up her thigh. The girl's clothes were in disarray, her bra straps exposed. The guy bit her lip, sucking on it passionately.
"Ah... no..." the girl weakly struggled for a moment.
"What do you mean no? Didn't you always want this?" the guy said.
"Please, not here," the girl pleaded.
"Not here? Then let's go to a hotel," the guy replied.
"I... I haven't decided yet."
"What haven't you decided? Don't you like me?"
"I..."
"Stop pretending; I know you like me," the guy said. "I can't wait any longer; I want you now."
"No..."
"What do you mean no? Your body is more honest than you are."
...
I listened to their conversation, my face turning red. I couldn't bear to watch any longer and quickly looked down.
Gaoyuan reacted quickly, covering my eyes with his hand. "Don't look; it's disgusting."
"Mm." I nodded, secretly relieved. Thank goodness Gaoyuan was there; otherwise, I wouldn't know how to face this situation.
The guy heard our voices and stopped what he was doing. He turned to us with a fierce look in his eyes. "What are you looking at? Get lost!"
"What did you say?" Gaoyuan asked coldly.
"I said get lost!" the guy shouted back.
"Gaoyuan, forget it; let's go," I whispered, pulling on his hand. I didn't want to cause trouble, especially since we had just moved in and it was better not to clash with the locals.
Gaoyuan remained silent, his gaze icy as he stared at the guy. The guy was intimidated by Gaoyuan's stare; he hesitated for a moment before releasing the girl.
"I... I warn you, don't meddle in my business," the boy said.
Gaoyuan looked at him, a hint of mockery in his eyes. "What if I want to?"
"Then go ahead and try!" The boy was provoked, swinging his fist towards Gaoyuan.
"Gaoyuan, watch out!" I shouted.
I wanted to push Gaoyuan away, but he stood his ground.
He looked at me, a cold smile playing on his lips. "Don't worry."
With that, he extended his right hand and caught the boy's fist.
Crack—
The sound of breaking bones echoed.
"Ah—" The boy let out a scream.
His arm was dislocated.
Gaoyuan released his hand and coldly said, "Don't let me see you again; next time it won't just be your hand that gets broken."
The boy's face turned pale as he glared at us fiercely before turning to flee.
Gaoyuan watched his retreating figure, his gaze icy.
"Let's go," I said.
"Okay," Gaoyuan replied, pulling me away.
We exited the alley and stepped onto the street.
There were few pedestrians, the streetlights dim, and a cool breeze blew gently.
We walked in silence, neither of us speaking.
My palms were slightly sweaty.
The scene from earlier left me feeling uneasy.
If Gaoyuan hadn't intervened, that girl would have been harmed, right?
Fortunately, with Gaoyuan around, I was safe.
