My mother and I no longer have to suffer under the bullying of that abusive man. We can live happily together. However, it is precisely this plan of mine that prevents my mother from being free. Because she has to take the blame for me.
"Shen Lin, you're doing this to save your mom," someone said.
"But you killed someone; doesn't that mean your mom can't get out even more?" another questioned.
"What are you really after by doing this?"
I let out a bitter laugh. "I want my mom to be alive. I want her to be free. I want her to never have to face anyone's threats again, and never have to compromise with anyone!"
"I want her to live for herself!"
The police sighed and gradually put their guns away. Captain Gao shoved a cigarette into my mouth. "Shen Lin, how old are you this year?"
"Eighteen."
Captain Gao patted my shoulder. "Kid, at eighteen, life is just beginning. You're so smart; as long as you work hard, a bright future awaits you."
"Don't do anything foolish; give me the gun."
I shook my head. "I don't need a bright future. I just want my mom to be okay."
"My bright future was already ruined by Shen Dajun!"
At that moment, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open. Yan Qingmin stumbled out, blood in her mouth and tears streaming down her face.
"Mom, don't come over!"
I shouted loudly.
Yan Qingmin, however, seemed not to hear and rushed straight towards me.
The police quickly stopped her, and she struggled desperately.
"Mom, don't be impulsive!"
I said anxiously.
Yan Qingmin looked at me, her eyes filled with tears.
She opened her mouth, trying to say something, but all that came out was blood; she couldn't make any sound.
She struggled hard, trying to leap towards me.
captain Gao reached out and pressed down on my gun's muzzle.
"Shen Lin, I know what you're thinking."
"But have you considered that if you kill Shen Dajun, your mom will have to take the blame for you?"
"Her whole life will be ruined!"
"But if you put down the gun, your mom still has a chance."
"The law is lenient and will give you a chance to turn your life around."
"As long as a person is alive, there is hope."
"Your mom raised you this big; can you bear to disappoint her?"
Yan Qingmin nodded vigorously.
She looked at me with pleading eyes, as if saying, "I don't ask for much from you, just that you live well."
I forced a bitter smile and said, "Mom, I don't need to turn my life around."
"Because I did nothing wrong."
"I just want to set you free, to ensure that you are no longer threatened by anyone and that you no longer have to compromise with anyone!"
Yan Qingmin shook her head desperately, tears streaming down her face.
I looked at her and smiled.
"Mom, from now on, you can live for yourself."
"You don't have to be bullied by anyone anymore, and you don't have to bow down to anyone."
"You are free."
"I will accompany you in another form."
As the words left my mouth, I pulled the trigger.
Bang!
The sound of the gunshot echoed.
The bullet pierced through my chin and exited from the top of my head.
I seemed to hear the sound of the bullet breaking through skin and tearing flesh.
Before my eyes, a crimson hue appeared.
The world became silent.
My soul seemed to be released.
I saw Yan Qingmin with a sweet, happy smile on her face.
She seemed to see me.
She was smiling at me.
She said, "Child, you’ve come."
Though she smiled, tears continued to flow uncontrollably down her face.
She cried until her voice was hoarse.
