The black hole before him disappeared, and Mo Li could once again see the office desk in front of him, along with the documents on it and the pen holder that he had just thrown at Ji Yan.
Mo Li took a deep breath.
He asked with difficulty, "Are these documents reliable?"
"Absolutely reliable."
Ji Yan's tone showed no hesitation.
"Can you find out what financial situation my father was in back then?"
Ji Yan pondered for a moment.
He replied, "I'm looking into it. However, since so many years have passed, it might be a bit difficult. I'll do my best."
"Where is Ni Laohai?"
"Ni Laohai is no longer the Ni Laohai of the past; I suspect he has become the leader of a gang."
"What gang?"
Ji Yan let go of the hand resting on Mo Li's shoulder and gazed out at the dark, deep sky.
After a moment of contemplation, he said, "I won't tell you. First, that gang is very dangerous. Second, I only suspect; I don't have enough evidence to prove that he is Ni Laohai."
Mo Li rested one hand on the table, supporting her forehead.
She hadn't had a proper rest for two days and nights, and her head throbbed faintly.
Mo Li whispered, "I just want to know if Ni Laohai accidentally killed my dad all those years ago."
Ji Yan sighed and shook his head.
He didn't want to hurt Mo Li but had to point out another fact.
"Mo Li, the person who hit your mom committed suicide out of guilt."
Mo Li was not unaware of this.
She had long felt that something was off.
For all these years, she had been like an ostrich burying her head in the sand, unwilling to confront this issue.
Her parents had died in a car accident within three days of each other.
The ones who killed them were just street thugs; one fled in fear of punishment, and the other committed suicide out of guilt.
Is there really such a coincidence in this world?
"What should I do?"
For the first time, Mo Li felt so helpless.
The clues from over a decade ago have almost all been cut off. How can she uncover the truth?
Her parents' car accident, though strange, was unanimously deemed an accidental traffic incident by the police department.
She could only rely on her own strength to investigate.
Ji Yan calmly said, "Tomorrow, we will take a trip to City B."
