Mo Li looked at the house number and asked a passerby for directions. After much effort, she finally found the house that Gu Jiangmian had mentioned.
It was an unremarkable house, just as old as the surrounding ones.
The house had three windows facing the street, but only one emitted a dim yellow light.
Mo Li gently knocked on the door three times.
Soon, footsteps could be heard from inside, and then the door was opened.
An elderly face appeared before Mo Li.
"Who are you looking for?" asked a hoarse voice.
The old house, the wrinkled face, and the aged voice made Mo Li almost feel as if she had entered another world.
But she calmly replied, "Someone sent me to buy something."
The elderly face scrutinized her with alert eyes, then glanced at the taxi parked not far behind her.
She said, "Come in and talk."
She let Mo Li through the main gate but did not invite her inside.
Then she asked, "What do you want to buy?"
Mo Li replied with the words Gu Jiangmian had taught her, "What I want to buy is a priceless treasure, but someone said I only need one dollar to buy it from you."
After saying this, she handed the old man a one-dollar coin that she had prepared earlier.
The old man took the coin and said, "Wait here."
He slowly entered the house.
After a while, he came out holding a sealed Kraft Paper bag and handed it to Mo Li.
"This is what you wanted."
Mo Li excitedly accepted the Kraft Paper bag and stuffed it into her backpack.
This Kraft Paper bag was a common file folder used in offices, completely out of place in the current atmosphere, and it should not have been something found with the old man.
It seemed that this was exactly what she had been looking for.
Mo Li couldn't open it to take a closer look right now; the Kraft Paper bag was filled with a thick stack of items that she needed to take home and study carefully.
"Thank you."
Mo Li sincerely expressed her gratitude.
She pulled out her wallet again, leaving only enough for transportation, and stuffed the rest of the money into the old man's hands.
Through the half-open door, she saw that the interior was quite shabby.
However, the old man refused to accept the money she offered.
