That night, my grandmother heard that strange sound again.
She took a flashlight and tiptoed to my bedroom door.
She pushed the door open, and my bed was empty.
"What are you looking for?"
A faint voice came from above.
Grandmother looked up and saw a woman lying on the ceiling.
The woman's limbs were like those of a gecko, her head twisted backward, and her long hair covered her face.
From that moment on, my grandmother began to experience various eerie occurrences.
Blood continuously gushed from the toilet, and the showerhead poured out red water.
Strange sounds echoed from the bathroom, as if something wanted to crawl out from inside.
She saw a woman with disheveled hair lying on the bathroom ceiling, her limbs clinging to the wall like a gecko, her head twisted backward, with long hair completely obscuring her face.
Grandmother screamed and ran back to her room, locking the door behind her and trembling under the covers.
After a while, she heard rustling sounds.
It sounded like mice.
The noise was coming from my room.
She cautiously approached my bedroom door and found no one on the bed.
Looking up at the ceiling, she saw a woman lying there, her limbs and head grotesquely twisted, with long hair covering her face.
Grandmother was so frightened that she collapsed to the ground and crawled away to the west room.
She bumped into something, making a thud sound.
She looked up and saw me in the west room.
I was sitting in a chair with my back to her, combing my hair.
Grandmother sighed in relief and stammered, "Xiao Ling, why don't you turn on the light?"
I slowly turned my head around; my body faced backward while my face was completely directed toward her.
"Grandma, aren't you going to sleep?"
I saw Grandma's eyes widening in terror as she looked at me, mumbling, "Xiao Xuan... Xiao Xuan..."
There was a deep gash on my face, slashing diagonally down from my left eye, and my entire face seemed almost completely split open.
Blood dripped continuously from my face.
I said softly, "Grandma, why did you want to kill me? I loved Chen Gang so much, yet you killed me..."
Grandma fainted in her fright.
Chen Gang came home and found Grandma unconscious in the west room; he called a doctor to the house.
When Grandma woke up, she still looked terrified, repeatedly muttering, "Xiao Xuan is back! She has come to collect my life!"
Chen Gang furrowed his brow tightly. "Mom, what's wrong? What Xiao Xuan?"
Grandma cried out, "I shouldn't have listened to you and sold the woman you brought back... Xiao Xuan's ghost has returned! She said she wants revenge!"
Chen Gang comforted Grandma and told her to rest well.
He said he would stay at home with her.
That night, a scream suddenly echoed from Grandma's room.
Chen Gang and I rushed to the east room and found Grandma huddled in the corner with her hair disheveled.
She pointed at the ceiling in terror, saying, "Xiao Xuan is back! She has come for me! She said I must return her child!"
Chen Gang held Grandma tightly, trying to soothe her: "Mom, where is Xiao Xuan?"
Grandma's eyes widened: "Xiao Xuan is right here! She is a ghost; I can see her!"
Grandma pointed at me fiercely and said, "She is not human! She is Xiao Xuan! Xiao Xuan has come back for revenge!"
Chen Gang glanced at me and softly said, "Mom, just rest well; I will be right here."
Chen Gang stayed in the east room.
After a long time, he finally returned to the west room.
I groggily saw him rummaging through my suitcase.
With a snap, he turned on the light.
He grabbed my arm and forcefully dragged me to the ground. It seemed like he had discovered some clue.
