However, after finishing breakfast, Wu Rong no longer paid attention to what happened last night. What he was anxious about now was the time wasted in the hospital. With a high fever and fainting, he would have to stay for at least three days.
Actually, according to Wu Rong's personality, he would usually just finish his IV drip and leave, disregarding the hospital's requirements! However, this morning, he woke up feeling defeated. As soon as he regained consciousness, he realized the situation; his fever had subsided, and he wanted to get up and drag the still-sleeping Ye Ming with him to leave. Just then, a plump nurse came by for her rounds and caught him.
Wu Rong wanted to leave and wasn't following medical advice, so she immediately scolded him, comparing him to disobedient children. Faced with her authority, Wu Rong's bravado quickly diminished; he felt both angry and frustrated but ultimately had to comply.
So when Rao Jie arrived, she saw that tense standoff.
“Tsk, I shouldn't have let Ye Ming leave,” Rao Jie said as she finished packing up her things. “Professor Wu, is there anything you need? You can tell me.”
“Forget it. When that guy comes back tonight, I'll ask him to bring over the materials. You don’t need to stay here; just go home!” Wu Rong waved his hand dismissively.
Suddenly recalling something, Rao Jie hurriedly grabbed her backpack and approached the bed. “Professor Wu, I was worried you’d be bored in the hospital, so I brought some things for you. Let me know if I got it right; if not, just make a list and I’ll help you pack when I go back.”
Having been Wu Rong's assistant for so long, even though she was not good at math, she could at least pretend to be helpful.
Seeing the materials Rao Jie brought over—exactly what he had been itching to look at—his eyes lit up like a child discovering a new toy.
Wu Rong looked at Rao Jie with appreciation in his eyes. “Not bad! You actually thought of everything so thoroughly.”
Rao Jie felt a warm glow in her heart and couldn't help but smile as she pulled out her study materials and began reviewing them.
Wu Rong glanced up and asked, “Aren't you going back?”
She shook her head. “It's too far; running back and forth isn't convenient. I'll stay here to take care of you. I'll go get lunch from the hospital cafeteria for you; you can trust their hygiene standards.”
In that moment, Wu Rong felt a strange warmth welling up inside him. He looked at Rao Jie oddly; in reality, he only needed to be observed in the hospital and wasn’t incapable of taking care of himself.
However, when the words were on the tip of his tongue, he did not say them out loud.
When you ask him why, he himself has no reason; he simply does not want to speak.
So the two of them quietly and harmoniously stayed in the same room, each focusing on their own thoughts.
After a while, Wu Rong got up to get some water, but Rao Jie was the first to react, directly taking the cup from him to pour water.
"You..."
Rao Jie looked at Wu Rong in confusion, thinking he was about to say something.
"With you treating me like this, I thought I wasn't just sick but actually disabled!" Wu Rong said expressionlessly.
Rao Jie chuckled awkwardly; she had a tendency to spring into action, always wanting to do a little more for Wu Rong to alleviate her guilt and express her gratitude.
"You are the patient and should rest more. Let me handle this; otherwise, what’s the point of me being here?"
Wu Rong wanted to retort, as Rao Jie’s presence was essentially pointless in this situation.
He glanced at the materials Rao Jie had beside her and said, "If you have any questions, feel free to ask me directly."
Rao Jie looked up at Wu Rong in a daze, realizing that his implication was that she could ask him anytime without waiting for that hour.
