"What should we do?" Xiao Xiao asked.
"I'll give it a try," A Meng said.
"Can you do it?" Xiao Xiao asked skeptically.
"A man can't say he can't," A Meng replied.
"Alright," Xiao Xiao nodded and fell silent.
A Meng stepped forward, gesturing in an attempt to communicate with the shopkeeper. However, after a long while of gesturing, the shopkeeper still didn't understand his meaning.
"It seems gestures aren't working," I said.
"What should we do then?" Xiao Xiao asked.
"I have a solution," I said.
"What solution?" Xiao Xiao inquired.
"Don't you know how to dance?" I suggested. "You can convey our message through dancing."
"Right," Xiao Xiao exclaimed, realizing the idea. "I'll give it a try."
With that, Xiao Xiao walked up to the shopkeeper and started dancing. After watching for a while, the shopkeeper seemed to understand what Xiao Xiao meant and began to respond.
After some communication, Xiao Xiao waved us over, signaling for us to come closer.
"How did it go?" I asked.
"I got it sorted," Xiao Xiao said. "He’s willing to let us stay for one night."
"That's great!" I exclaimed happily. "You did an amazing job."
"Hehe," Xiao Xiao smiled proudly.
"Don't get too cocky," A Meng reminded him. "This is just the first step."
"Yeah," Xiao Xiao nodded and said, "Let's go."
So, the shopkeeper led us toward his home.
"Is your home far?" I asked.
"Not far," the shopkeeper replied. "It's just ahead."
"Oh," I nodded and didn't ask further.
After walking for a while, we arrived at a large courtyard.
"This is my home," the shopkeeper said.
"It's really beautiful here," Xiao Xiao exclaimed.
"Thank you," the shopkeeper smiled.
"Do all the people here wear black clothes?" I asked curiously.
"Yes," the shopkeeper nodded and said, "Black is our traditional color."
"Oh," I nodded and didn't say anything more.
"Please sit for a moment; I'll go get you something to eat," the shopkeeper said.
"Thank you," the four of us expressed our gratitude.
"You're welcome," the shopkeeper waved his hand and turned to leave.
"The people here are really nice," Xiao Xiao said.
"Yeah," I nodded and said, "I hope we can meet good people too."
Soon, the shopkeeper returned with food.
"Eat up," he warmly invited us.
"Thank you," we all said as we picked up the food to eat.
"Take your time; I have to go attend to some things," the shopkeeper said.
"Okay," we nodded and watched him leave.
By dusk, we finally arrived at a medium-sized house.
This entrance, unlike the drab stone houses along the way, was built from glossy black stones, exquisite and elegant, showcasing a distinct Central Plains style. The single wooden door swung open wide, as if welcoming us distant guests.
The courtyard was neither too big nor too small, perfectly square. A row of flat-topped black stone houses faced south, with golden lattice floor-to-ceiling windows shimmering in the evening light.
In front of the house, a row of exotic flowers and plants bloomed vibrantly. Although it was close to Mid-Autumn Festival, they still competed for beauty, filling the courtyard with their fragrance.
Green vines climbed over the wooden trellis and eaves, with new tendrils also eager to show their strength, cascading down in a graceful arrangement of varying heights, adding a lively touch to the serene and dark courtyard.
The Wujin Old Man walked out from the house, smiling warmly as he welcomed us inside.
