Bao Ming didn't know why he couldn't just leave. He frowned at Rao Jie, then glanced at Long Yong, his expression darkening, a strange look on his face as if he had been cuckolded.
Long Yong merely smiled lightly at the scrutinizing gaze directed at him by Bao Ming, ignoring it completely. He lowered his head and leaned closer to Rao Jie, as if about to whisper something.
Bao Ming felt a surge of anger rising within him. He couldn't help but step forward, disregarding Jiang Chuchu's attempts to stop him. With a mocking laugh, he said, "Rao Jie, it's only been a month! It's really unfair for your friends and classmates to talk about me and Chuchu like that! You should be more accommodating! What kind of double standard is this?"
The expressions on Rao Jie and Long Yong's faces changed instantly.
The atmosphere around them became even eerier than before.
Rao Jie looked up at Bao Ming in disbelief, thinking he must be out of his mind to say such things. She understood the implications behind his words; it was one thing to insult her, but how could he casually speculate about others? The senior had come to help, only to be dragged into this mess—how disgusting!
In a fit of anger, Rao Jie suddenly stood up. Facing Bao Ming's unfriendly gaze, she felt both furious and wronged, her eyes welling up with tears. She needed to explain herself.
But before Rao Jie could speak, Long Yong stood up and placed a hand on her shoulder, gently patting it as if to calm her down. His voice was soft as he said, "At times like this, you shouldn't step in to explain. Otherwise, it will just escalate into an argument. It's not worth it to argue with those two, and they aren't worth your anger or sadness."
Rao Jie was taken aback, her emotions momentarily halted as she stared blankly at Long Yong.
"What did you just say?" Bao Ming seemed to have lost all rationality as he directly questioned Long Yong, ignoring Jiang Chuchu's attempts to intervene.
Long Yong turned his face toward Bao Ming, his expression shifting instantly to one of seriousness and coldness.
"I don't understand how someone who cheated during a relationship and then immediately started dating the person they cheated with has the right to question her about another man being present. Besides, it's just a senior helping a junior with studies—there's nothing wrong with that. I wonder what your standards are? Your perspective on morality is truly astonishing."
Long Yong spoke slowly, but each word felt like a knife cutting through the air.
Rao Jie was stunned into silence, gazing at Long Yong in shock. Was this really the same senior who had gently helped her with her studies just moments ago? Wait—how did he know about their situation?
As for Bao Ming, Long Yong's words hit him like a bucket of cold water poured over him, leaving him feeling deeply ashamed.
He wasn't truly devoid of a sense of right and wrong; it was just that the scene earlier had triggered his recent feelings of unease and agitation, causing him to impulsively say things he shouldn't have.
Recalling Rao Jie's expression from earlier made him regret his words even more.
He never intended to hurt Rao Jie; he simply couldn't control himself in that moment. He knew she wasn't the type who would jump into another man's arms right after a breakup.
Feeling extremely distressed, Bao Ming wanted Rao Jie to see him and understand his thoughts so that she could forgive him. So he opened his mouth to explain. "Rao Jie, actually I—"
Rao Jie didn't want to hear any more from Bao Ming; she didn't want to see them again either. If it weren't for the senior being there, she would have run away immediately.
Just as she was about to turn away in disgust and ignore them, someone suddenly appeared at the door, capturing all of Rao Jie's attention.
"Rao Jie, what are you doing? You haven't replied to the messages! I'm leaving! Don't waste my time!"
"Ah, yes!"
Rao Jie had almost developed a conditioned reflex to Wu Rong's commands.
