Meeting Chen Yu again was three months after my abortion.
I knew he had been looking for me during this time.
But he wasn't all-powerful; if I deliberately avoided him, he wouldn't be able to find me no matter what.
This time, I took the initiative to contact him to discuss our divorce.
Chen Yu looked much more haggard, with unkempt stubble and a shirt that was no longer as bright and polished as before, now wrinkled with creases.
When he saw me, the first thing he asked was, "Is the baby still with us?"
I looked at him calmly.
He already knew the answer.
His eyes were bloodshot.
He took off his black backpack and pulled out many baby items from inside.
"This is a new bottle I bought, this is the outfit for when the baby is one month old, this is for three months, this is for seven months, this is a silver bracelet for the baby, and this is a longevity lock."
"That's enough, Chen Yu," I interrupted him.
He didn't respond and silently laid out everything from his backpack.
"Xiao Ran..." Chen Yu tried to come over to hug me.
I stepped back a little.
His outstretched hand fell empty to his sides.
"I've been looking for you all this time. I miss you so much, Xiao Ran. I know I was wrong; I shouldn't have gone to Meng Yunxi while you were pregnant. I..."
I didn't want to listen. I interrupted him again and took out a divorce agreement. "Please sign here."
He looked at me in disbelief, his eyes reddening as he spoke to himself.
"I've kept everything related to the baby at home, but the crawling mat got a bit moldy from moisture, so I replaced it with a new one. I'm not sure if you'll like the color, Xiao Ran. Would you come back with me to take a look?"
I repeated, "Chen Yu, sign here."
"I won't sign! There's no way I can sign that." He tore up the divorce agreement in front of him.
I directly took out a box of photocopied divorce agreements. "How many more do you want to tear up? Are these enough?"
"Wen Ran, I've already lost my child. Every day at home, I see the things I bought for the baby. You have no idea how much pain I'm in. I've gone crazy wanting to be a dad, but every time I think about it, it's my fault that I lost my child. It's like being tortured; isn't this punishment enough? Why won't you just forgive me?"
"Forgive you?" I scoffed. "What about me?"
"You were with me because Meng Yunxi was dating someone else. You married me because Meng Yunxi married someone else. Now that Meng Yunxi is back, you're distracted and you want me to forgive you?"
Chen Yu's face turned pale. "You know everything."
He pleaded again, "Wen Ran, I don't love Meng Yunxi anymore; I love you now."
I laughed out loud. "I loved you for three years, and now you just started loving me."
"Chen Yu, just sign it. Don't make me look down on you."
In the end, Chen Yu signed the agreement, but he stubbornly looked at me and said, "Wen Ran, I won't give up on you."
"I signed to end this unfair relationship from the past; I'll pursue you again and show you my true feelings."
Chen Yu can be terrifyingly obsessive about certain things; part of the reason his law firm is so successful is due to his somewhat obsessive nature.
But he has always managed to keep it in check.
However, this time he was obsessively mad.
Chen Yu followed me every day.
Generally, he wouldn't disturb my life, but whenever I had some free time, he would take off his backpack and show me what was inside.
Sometimes it was a bottle of prepared formula, other times it was a serving of baby food, along with many sets of baby clothes for different age stages.
He presented them to me like treasures.
At first, I ignored him, thinking he would eventually give up over time.
But he clung on like a stubborn adhesive that couldn't be shaken off.
I was exasperated and, suppressing my anger, said to him, "Chen Yu, your obsession with the past is your own issue; don't drag me back into it."
"Do you know what it feels like for me to think about the past now?"
"I feel disgusted."
"Why should I accept it just because you say you love me?"
"Aren't you the one pursuing me? Let me give you the answer: I will never forgive you in this lifetime, nor will I be with you."
"So stop being pathetic, Chen Yu."
Chen Yu stood there dejectedly, as if all his strength had been drained away.
After that, Chen Yu no longer appeared by my side.
Then, Meng Yunxi suddenly contacted me.
"Wen Ran, are you satisfied now?"
"Chen Yu is completely consumed by thoughts of you and your nonexistent child; he can't fit into my life at all!"
I coldly retorted, "That question should be directed at you. I've already made room for you; what more are you dissatisfied with?"
"You planned to leave long ago; you would never have kept Chen Yu's child. But you deliberately created a dream for him of being a father, only to shatter that dream later and tell him that he handed over the knife himself."
"Now he spends all day at home holding a doll, saying it's your child with him!"
Meng Yunxi's emotions were gradually escalating.
I had no interest in enduring her hysterical anger, so I hung up the phone directly.
Meng Yunxi, however, insisted on sending me videos every day.
In the videos, Chen Yu was always holding a doll.
Sometimes he called it Chen Yin, and other times he called it Tuan Tuan.
These were names he had once told me he wanted to give our daughter.
I felt nothing and directly blocked Meng Yunxi.
A month later, the police contacted me, asking if I knew Chen Yu and requesting that I come in to handle his situation.
I told the officer to contact someone else, but he said he only remembered my contact information.
I was forced to go to the police station.
The officer explained the situation to me.
Chen Yu had taken a doll to kindergarten and insisted on enrolling it. After the principal repeatedly refused, they had no choice but to call the police.
"If the family member has mental health issues, it's advisable to take extra care. He seems very dependent on you," the officer said.
Chen Yu walked towards me, holding a doll in his arms, his eyes filled with gentle smiles. "Xiao Ran, let's go enroll Tuan Tuan together."
I looked at him calmly. "Chen Yu, stop pretending."
His expression froze for a moment as he insisted on taking my hand. "Xiao Ran, let's go enroll Tuan Tuan together."
I pulled the doll from his hands and threw it on the ground.
"Don't talk about mental illness; even if you died right now, I wouldn't bat an eye."
I turned and walked out of the police station.
His hoarse voice came from behind me. "If I die, will you forgive me?"
The wind was a bit strong, and I didn't look back.
Later, I encountered Meng Yunxi. Her complexion was waxy yellow, and she had lost a lot of weight.
She glared at me with hatred.
I walked past her nonchalantly.
I vaguely heard Li Si mention that Meng Yunxi had asked her ex-husband for alimony, but it was eventually discovered that her child was not his.
Now, she was being sued by her ex-husband for various compensation fees.
She was covered in mud.
Afterward, I received another call from Meng Yunxi, her voice choked with tears.
"Wen Ran, Chen Yu's situation is very bad now. If you still have a conscience, come and see him."
I remained silent.
"No."
"I've long since fed the dogs with that."
