At the gathering organized by the class monitor, my best friend leaned in and whispered in my ear, "I heard that Fang Meiqin and Cheng Cheng had a fight and broke up. You know about it, right?"
I nodded; such trivial matters were nothing surprising. After all, they were the main couple, and breaking up and getting back together was just part of the routine.
"Also, I've recently heard that Cheng Cheng has been asking around about you," my friend said with a gossiping look. "He asked many classmates who are close to you how you've been, whether you've got a boyfriend, which university you chose..."
She nudged my shoulder and curiously asked, "If you weren't with Shen Linxi, would you accept Cheng Cheng's confession if he confessed to you?"
Without hesitation, I replied, "No." I no longer liked Cheng Cheng, so I naturally wouldn't accept his confession.
My friend looked incredulous. "You really don't like Cheng Cheng anymore?"
Just as I was about to explain, a figure suddenly appeared beside me. I looked up to find it was Cheng Cheng.
He stared at me intently, as if trying to bore a hole through my face with his gaze.
"Banxia, long time no see." He sat down right next to me, speaking in a familiar tone. "What have you been busy with lately? I haven't seen you around."
His movements were quite intimate; his arm casually draped over the back of my chair, making it seem like he was wrapping me in an embrace.
I stiffened and frowned uncomfortably. Cheng Cheng's deliberate closeness made me instantly aware of his intentions.
Perhaps he was trying to provoke Fang Meiqin because of their quarrel by using me as bait. How ridiculous!
I moved my chair to the side to maintain some distance from him.
"Cheng Cheng, there's nothing for us to talk about, and besides, you already have a girlfriend. We should keep our distance."
Cheng Cheng looked shocked, seemingly not expecting me to say such a thing.
He tugged at the corner of his mouth and asked, "Banxia, are you jealous?"
I scoffed coldly, "Don't get ahead of yourself. I'm no longer interested in the emotional games between you two."
Cheng Cheng's expression changed slightly, and just as he was about to say something, the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open.
Fang Meiqin walked in. Upon seeing Cheng Cheng, her expression shifted, her eyes reddening slightly as if she were about to cry.
However, Cheng Cheng didn't even glance at her; instead, he focused on the menu and asked me, "Banxia, this is your favorite dish, right?"
I silently watched the scene unfold. After Fang Meiqin and Cheng Cheng had a falling out, Cheng Cheng deliberately drew closer to me while Fang Meiqin tried to win him back by flattering me. It was utterly ridiculous.
Cheng Cheng checked off some dishes on the menu and gently handed it to me, saying, "Take a look and see if there's anything else you want."
I felt nauseated and amused at the same time. "No thanks, I'm already full."
After saying that, I stood up, ready to leave the private room. Just then, the door swung open again.
Shen Linxi appeared at the entrance.
The moment our eyes met, my heart raced wildly, filled with sweet bubbles of excitement. I hadn't planned on attending this gathering, but my best friend insisted I come along to support her as she confessed her feelings to her crush.
Shen Linxi wasn't supposed to be at such an event either, yet somehow he showed up. His expressionless handsome face seemed to soften a bit upon seeing me.
Cheng Cheng's face darkened immediately upon spotting Shen Linxi; he narrowed his eyes, a hint of danger flashing in them.
Once Shen Linxi entered, the room fell silent. Everyone was secretly observing his every move.
