When Wu Rong finished a phase of his work and looked back, Rao Jie was already asleep on the small table.
Unknowingly, his room had accumulated some items that did not match his style: a small table, a cushion, and a girl.
Rao Jie had her arms crossed under her head, her face turned to the side. Due to the pressure, her cheeks appeared even more chubby, and her mouth was slightly open, revealing a small portion of her white teeth as she breathed slowly, faintly showing her pink tongue inside.
Her posture was as standard and obedient as an elementary school student taking a nap, with books and a phone placed beside her.
"Hey, wake up and go back to sleep."
No response.
"Get up quickly, or you'll complain later that I didn't wake you!"
Still no response.
Wu Rong clicked his tongue in annoyance but resigned himself to crouch down. Just as he was about to wake her up, he heard her mumble something.
Wu Rong squinted slightly, wondering if she was cursing him in her dream again. So he leaned in a bit closer.
He couldn't hear what she was mumbling until she called out to him.
"Professor Wu... um... don't be angry..."
Wu Rong was taken aback, his expression momentarily blank before he awkwardly replied in a low voice, "I'm not angry."
Seeing Rao Jie's unresponsive face, Wu Rong hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided not to wake her up. Instead, he planned to carry her back to her room. He didn't think much about the significance of this decision; he just wanted to do it.
Since he wanted to, he could do it.
Wu Rong half-knelt on the ground and easily picked her up. Rao Jie was sound asleep and instinctively adjusted into a more comfortable position as she nestled into Wu Rong's embrace.
"This question... I can't solve it..."
Wu Rong couldn't help but smirk. "If you don't fix this habit of talking in your sleep, who would dare sleep next to you? They'd be driven crazy."
After the teasing, with a smile still on his lips, Wu Rong was about to stand up with her when suddenly the phone screen on the small table lit up.
A message came in.
Automatically reading... Wu Rong unconsciously glanced at it.
Senior Long Yong: "By the way, it might rain tomorrow. Remember to bring an umbrella when you come to school. See you tomorrow! Don't worry; I'll make sure you turn those wrong questions into ones you can handle easily. Good night."
Wu Rong: ...
Silently, he set her down.
He let her lie casually on the ground.
He picked up a blanket nearby and threw it over her.
He got up.
"Go away!"
The next morning, Rao Jie, who woke up sore and stiff from sleeping on the floor: ...
What did she do wrong this time?
Wasn't he the one who would violently shake her awake without any mercy before?
Could it be that she scolded him in her sleep again?
That couldn't be true; she hadn't complained about him at all recently.
Feeling wronged, Rao Jie turned to look at him, but Wu Rong was still in his usual sleeping position.
During breakfast, Rao Jie tried to ask if she had done something to upset Wu Rong again.
However, Wu Rong acted as if nothing was wrong.
"No, it's just that I couldn't wake you up and didn't want to bother... Didn't I give you a blanket? Who told you to sleep so deeply? With the way you sleep, you wouldn't even know if someone carried you away in the middle of the night."
Rao Jie was left speechless but couldn't argue back.
She knew that Wu Rong hated it when others slept in his room; unless something more annoying happened, he wouldn't resort to such self-destructive measures.
But Wu Rong was clearly someone who spoke his mind and never hesitated to point out others' mistakes without mercy—so why was he acting like this today? Was it really because she slept too soundly?
It was strange; she wasn't usually such a heavy sleeper unless she was in an environment that made her feel particularly safe and with people she trusted...
