"Where's my phone? Where's my coat?"
"Where did they go?"
Yan Chao looked at me, his expression calm.
"I took them."
I stared at him, "What do you mean?"
Yan Chao gazed deeply into my eyes.
"Vivi, I want to be with you."
I shook my head, "Don't say that."
"Yan Chao, I already like someone else."
"Please stop bothering me, okay?"
Yan Chao took a step closer to me.
He cupped my face and leaned down, almost kissing me.
In the end, he stopped just an inch away from my lips.
Yan Chao's voice was low.
"You’re lying to me."
"You’re deceiving me."
I was trapped in this private hospital.
I couldn't leave or contact the outside world.
Every day, Yan Chao would come to see me.
He would bring my favorite food and fruits, and he would bring books.
But he rarely spoke to me, and his actions were not intimate.
Yet I was still very scared.
I was afraid of this Yan Chao.
He made me feel like he had returned to my side.
Just like before.
Yan Chao and I were a couple.
At that time, I often said that Yan Chao would definitely achieve great things in the future. Because he was so smart and outstanding. Later, he skipped class for the first time for me. He wanted to buy four cups of my favorite banana milk. Then, we went to college. In our junior year, rumors spread around the school. They all said that Yan Chao had fallen for a girl named Chen Ruiping. That girl was tall and came from a wealthy family. She was as beautiful as a star.
That day, I waited for a long time downstairs at the boys' dormitory until Yan Chao appeared. I cried and asked him if those rumors were true. Yan Chao held me tightly and told me that he only belonged to me. However, everything that followed did not turn out as we had hoped. Yan Chao told me, “Vivi, I’m getting married.” I looked up at him and smiled. “Is that so? Then I hope you’ll be happy.” Yan Chao stared at me intently. “Don’t you have anything you want to say to me?” I shook my head. “Yan Chao, let the past be the past.”
“I dreamed about our childhood yesterday; I dreamed about you.” “I think that dream was saying goodbye to the past you and me.” “Yan Chao, we both need to look forward. I wish you… a prosperous future with children.” Yan Chao curled his lips into a mocking smile. “A prosperous future with children?”
"Li Wei, do you think you can sleep with me and still have children with someone else?"
My expression changed. "What do you mean?"
Yan Chao reached out and touched my cheek.
"I could have a child with you too."
I stared at him in shock, suddenly feeling a bit exhausted.
"Yan Chao, do you really have to do this?"
"Do you really want to make it so difficult for both of us?"
Yan Chao's gaze was deep.
"Vivi, I don't want to let you go."
"In this lifetime, you can only stay by my side."
I forced a bitter smile.
"Yan Chao, do you have to push me to the point of wanting to die before you're satisfied?"
Yan Chao's expression darkened.
"Li Wei, if you have the guts, just die sooner!"
Outside the window, the sun was setting.
Large patches of fiery clouds covered the sky.
Just like the outcome for the two of us.
It was destined to be bleak and hopeless.
I closed my eyes and softly said, "Yeah, if I had the guts, I would have died long ago."
"If I died earlier, I wouldn't have made things so difficult for you."
Yan Chao's friend, Song Tao, burst in.
He looked grim and pulled me up forcefully.
"Li Wei, what exactly do you want?!"
I looked at him in confusion.
