Lu Hao, a junior at the same school as Li Ting, had his parents working in another city and grew up with his grandparents, which made him somewhat reclusive and not very sociable. This summer, he stayed in Jiangcheng to participate in a research project. He thought today would be another dull day, but unexpectedly encountered something interesting.
By the time he returned to school, it was already past eight o'clock. Lu Hao grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed back to the lab to continue his work. He was currently researching a new algorithm that, if successful, could revolutionize current computer vision technology. Lu Hao worked until after one in the morning before finally packing up and leaving the lab.
Dragging his exhausted body back to his dormitory, he took a shower and went to bed. When he woke up the next day, it was already past nine in the morning. Lying in bed for a while, he reached out to grab his phone from the bedside table but instead felt a hard card.
He paused for a moment before remembering it was the campus card of a girl he had found yesterday. Lu Hao held the card for a while, recalling how she bragged about her fighting skills over the phone last night, and couldn't help but chuckle. He initially thought about tossing the card into the trash but inexplicably stuffed it into a drawer instead.
After lying on the bed for a bit longer, Lu Hao finally got up slowly, went to wash up, changed his clothes, and grabbed his bag before heading out to continue working in the lab. Just as he stepped out of the dorm building, he suddenly heard someone calling him.
"Senior!"
Lu Hao turned to see a girl wearing a hat running towards him. She stopped in front of him, looked up with a smile, and asked, "Senior, do you remember me?"
Lu Hao stared at her for a moment before uncertainly asking, "...Li Ting?"
"That's right!" Li Ting said excitedly, blinking her eyes. "You're amazing!"
Lu Hao replied with silence for a moment before asking, "What are you doing here?"
Li Ting grinned and said, "I dropped my card yesterday and wanted to see if I left it in the car."
Lu Hao: "......"
He instinctively thought of the campus card in the drawer, paused for a moment, and said, "I didn't notice. Why don't you ask the driver?"
"I already asked," Li Ting said with a smile, "They said the card is with you."
Lu Hao: "......"
He was silent for a moment and asked, "When did you lose it?"
Li Ting: "...... Just yesterday afternoon."
Lu Hao: "......"
He pressed his lips together and said, "I didn't notice."
Li Ting: "......"
She immediately showed a disappointed expression, "Ah... I see..."
Seeing her looking so dejected, Lu Hao hesitated for a moment and said, "How about I help you look for it?"
Li Ting's eyes lit up at his words, "Really?"
Lu Hao: "...... Yeah."
"That's great!" Li Ting jumped up happily, "Thank you, Senior!"
Lu Hao watched her joyful demeanor and couldn't help but smile slightly.
He said, "Then I'll head back to the dormitory first. Will you wait for me here?"
"Okay!" Li Ting nodded obediently.
Lu Hao turned to leave, his steps slightly hurried.
Li Ting stood in place waiting, secretly praying that the card was still there.
Her campus card contained a lot of electronic information, as well as her ID and bank card. If she lost it, it would be very troublesome to replace.
She anxiously waited for more than ten minutes before she saw Lu Hao walking towards her with a card in hand.
"Senior!" Li Ting waved at him excitedly, "Did you find it?"
Lu Hao nodded and handed her the card.
Li Ting quickly took it, flipped through it to confirm nothing was missing, and then sighed in relief.
"That's great," she stuffed the card into her bag and looked up at Lu Hao with a bright smile. "Senior, thank you so much!"
Lu Hao: "..."
He stared at her radiant smile, and his heart suddenly began to race.
He hurriedly averted his gaze, cleared his throat, and said, "No need to be polite."
Li Ting: "..."
She tilted her head and looked at him. "Senior, what's wrong with you?"
Lu Hao: "..."
He coughed as if to cover up, saying, "It's nothing."
"Oh," Li Ting said without suspicion, thanking him again. "Senior, I'll be leaving now."
Lu Hao: "..."
He watched her turn to leave and couldn't help but call out to her. "Hey."
Li Ting stopped in her tracks and turned back to look at him. "Senior, is there something else?"
Lu Hao: "..."
He paused for a moment and asked, "Are you free later?"
Li Ting blinked. "...Yes."
Lu Hao: "..."
He pressed his lips together and asked, "Would you be willing to do me a favor?"
Li Ting: "...?"
She looked at him in confusion. "What favor?"
Lu Hao: "..."
He was silent for a moment before saying, "I would like to invite you to dinner."
Li Ting: "...?"
She looked at him in bewilderment. "Why?"
