He looked at me and suddenly raised his hand to tap my head.
"What are you daydreaming about?"
I looked up at him, my eyes suddenly brightening.
"Xiao Yi, do you want to try and see if you like me?"
Xiao Yi was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly laughed.
"You’re still young; what do you know about liking someone?"
"Stop messing around."
I had gone to great lengths to get close to Xiao Yi.
Every day I would go up the mountain to pick the most beautiful wild fruits to give to him.
Xiao Yi remained indifferent.
I would scour the streets every day for pretty clay dolls and present them to him.
Xiao Yi glanced at them and said, "Just foolishness."
I persisted, but Xiao Yi grew annoyed.
He looked at me coldly and said, "You’re still young; I won’t hold it against you."
"But if you dare to speak nonsense again, be careful I let you die at the hands of the Rogue Army."
That day, he took me riding to the riverbank and tossed me into the water with a flick of his hand.
I landed by the lake and staggered a few steps before steadying myself.
Xiao Yi sat on his horse, looking down at me from above.
"Qian Qian, you’re just a little girl; how dare you have thoughts about me?"
He sneered coldly and suddenly raised his hand.
A flash of cold light appeared, and a gleaming knife was embedded in the tree trunk beside me.
"Xiao Yi!"
I cried out in shock, instinctively wanting to rush over.
But in the next moment, a figure in black landed nearby.
The clash of blades dazzled the eyes.
Xiao Yi pulled back on his horse as the assassin pursued relentlessly.
I watched in horror as the assassin lunged at Xiao Yi with a sword. In a split second, Xiao Yi sidestepped and twisted the man's neck with a swift motion. I was terrified.
Xiao Yi dismounted and walked over to me. He looked at me with a cold expression.
"Qian Qian, did you see that?"
"I am someone who lives on the edge of danger."
"I have no need for such sentimental attachments."
"If you continue to cling to me, you might lose your life."
I stared at him, holding back tears.
"Then just leave me here."
"I can't walk; you have to carry me back."
Xiao Yi frowned slightly.
"Qian Qian, don't be ungrateful."
I pouted and replied defiantly, "My feet hurt."
"Walk back by yourself."
Xiao Yi turned away with a cold expression and left. I watched him walk further away, feeling increasingly anxious.
"Xiao Yi!"
I called out to him loudly, but he didn't look back.
Looking around, I saw the desolate wilderness, with a few corpses not far away, and fear crept into my heart. Would Xiao Yi really leave me here?
I waited for a long time, but Xiao Yi did not return. The distant sounds of wild animals made my heart race with fear. I hugged my knees and squatted down, feeling both anxious and scared.
"Xiao Yi, you bastard..."
"You bullied me, boo hoo..."
"I'm so scared, Xiao Yi..."
"Please come back..."
The more I cried, the sadder I became, and finally, I just sat down on the ground and started to wail.
"Stop crying."
Xiao Yi's voice came from ahead.
I looked up and saw him riding a tall horse, looking down at me.
"Xiao Yi!"
I was both surprised and delighted, quickly getting to my feet.
"You’re back!"
Xiao Yi frowned slightly.
"Wipe your tears."
"Oh."
I obediently wiped my tears away and reached out my hand to him.
"Carry me back."
Xiao Yi sighed and leaned down to lift me onto the horse.
I leaned against him, finally feeling relieved.
"Xiao Yi, aren't you afraid I'll get you killed?"
Xiao Yi glanced at me and chuckled softly.
"Qian Qian, if you want to kill me, then go ahead and try."
"Let's see who dies first, you or me."
I pouted and didn't say anything more.
