After New Year's Day, Li Ting began to busy herself with preparations for the final exams. She and Lu Hao continued to chat on WeChat just like before, with no significant changes.
On Friday afternoon, Li Ting finished her last professional course exam. Lu Hao messaged her right on time: "Are you going home this afternoon?"
Li Ting replied, "Yes, I am."
Lu Hao said, "Let me give you a ride then; it's a good chance to show some courtesy."
Li Ting responded, "Sure, see you at the north gate."
After returning to her dormitory and packing her things, Xiao Mei asked her how she was getting to the station. She vaguely replied, "Taking a taxi."
Xiao Mei didn't press further; Xiao Min was on a video call with her boyfriend, and Zhang Qian had not yet returned.
Li Ting went downstairs with her bag and walked toward the north gate.
Lu Hao's car was parked by the roadside. He stood beside it in a black coat, looking tall and upright.
As Li Ting approached, Lu Hao quickly opened the trunk and took her suitcase from her hands to place it inside.
"Thank you," Li Ting said.
"You're welcome," Lu Hao replied as he closed the trunk and handed her a sandwich. "Have you eaten lunch?"
Li Ting shook her head, and Lu Hao said, "Then take this and eat it on the way."
Li Ting felt warmth in her heart as she reached out to accept it. "Thank you."
"Well... shall we go?" Lu Hao looked at her with a faint smile in his eyes.
"Mm-hmm," Li Ting nodded and got into the passenger seat.
Lu Hao sat in the driver's seat, started the car, and drove toward the station. The road was a bit congested, but Lu Hao wasn't in a hurry; he drove leisurely while occasionally chatting with Li Ting.
"What time is your ticket for?" Lu Hao asked.
"Four o'clock," Li Ting answered.
"It's still early," Lu Hao said.
Li Ting glanced at the time and confirmed it was indeed early; they still had at least half an hour to go. She leaned back in her chair, looking ahead, and suddenly asked, "Why are you trying to be so nice?"
Lu Hao smiled, "Because I'm a pursuer."
Pursuer? Li Ting was taken aback for a moment before realizing what he meant. Lu Hao was saying he wanted to date her.
"Then you..." Li Ting hesitated, "Do you want to date me?"
Lu Hao turned to look at her and said with a smile, "Of course I do."
Li Ting couldn't help but smile back. "So does this mean we're officially dating now?"
"Well..." Lu Hao thought for a moment, "I guess not yet, since I haven't officially confessed my feelings."
"Oh." Li Ting felt a bit disappointed.
"But..." Lu Hao changed the subject, "If you're willing, we can try it out first."
"Try it out?" Li Ting asked in confusion.
"It means we act like a real couple. If we feel we're compatible, then we can be together. If not..."
"It won't be incompatible," Li Ting interrupted him. "I think you're great."
Lu Hao laughed, "That's good to hear."
They exchanged smiles, and the atmosphere became warm and cozy.
When the car arrived at the station, Lu Hao helped Li Ting with her luggage and escorted her to the waiting room.
"Be safe on your way," Lu Hao reminded her.
"Yeah, I will," Li Ting nodded.
"And..." Lu Hao pulled an envelope from his pocket and handed it to her. "A birthday gift."
"Thank you," Li Ting said as she took it. "Well, I'm off now. Drive safely on your way back."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye."
Li Ting waved at him and turned to walk towards the platform.
After getting on the train, she opened the envelope and found a drawing inside.
The drawing depicted the scene from their last carpooling on a rainy day, where Lu Hao helped her dry her hair. In the upper left corner of the drawing were four large characters—
"Rainy Night Carpool."
Li Ting couldn't help but smile; this was indeed something Lu Hao would do.
She folded the drawing and placed it back in the envelope, then took out her phone and snapped a picture to send to Lu Hao: "I really like it, thank you."
Lu Hao quickly replied: "I'm glad you like it."
Li Ting looked at the words on the screen, feeling a hint of sweetness in her heart.
She realized that she was increasingly looking forward to her future with Lu Hao.

After returning home, Li Ting had a delightful day.
Her mother and father celebrated her birthday, and in the evening, they watched a movie together.
