A fire seemed to be burning within me, threatening to consume me entirely. I bit my lip, struggling against the unfamiliar impulse rising inside me. I couldn't... I couldn't do this.
Lu Hao looked at me, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. He slowly lowered his head, coming closer to me. His breath brushed against my face, warm and ticklish. My breathing became erratic, and my heart raced faster. I closed my eyes, waiting for what was about to happen. A thought flashed through my mind: What if I just succumbed? But I quickly dismissed that thought. I couldn't let myself fall.
Lu Hao's lips were just an inch away from mine. He paused and softly said, "Li Ting, I like you." Hearing his words, I suddenly opened my eyes wide. I looked at him; his eyes were bright and sincere, with no hint of deceit or falsehood. His feelings were genuine.
My heart trembled as a long-suppressed emotion broke free. "I like you too," I whispered. A glimmer of surprise crossed his eyes before he kissed me again. This time, I didn't push him away. I reached out and embraced him.
I liked Lu Hao. I liked him. I liked him! I shouted in my heart as tears streamed down my face once more. My first kiss was finally given to him.
Lu Hao and I kissed on the sofa for a long time, until we could hardly breathe, and then we reluctantly parted. His forehead rested against mine, our breaths heavy.
"Li Ting," he called my name softly.
"Mm?" I responded.
"I'm posting on Moments now," he said.
"..." I was taken aback.
Before I could react, Lu Hao had already taken out his phone.
Unable to contain my curiosity, I leaned in closer.
Lu Hao opened WeChat, found Moments, took a picture of the two of us, and captioned it: "Spending the night with my girlfriend."
I was speechless.
"What do you think?" he asked.
"..." I was at a loss for words, "You really posted it."
"Of course," Lu Hao replied, "I want to announce to the whole world that you are my girlfriend."
"..." I felt my face flush, "Aren't you afraid of embarrassment?"
"Why should I be?" Lu Hao said nonchalantly, "I actually want everyone to know."
"..." I was completely convinced.
Lu Hao handed me the phone and said, "Take a look and see if there's anything that needs changing."
I took the phone and glanced at it.
In the photo, we were leaning against each other; my eyes were closed while his were filled with laughter.
Looking at this picture, a wave of sweetness surged within me.
"It looks great," I said, "No need for changes."
"That's good," Lu Hao smiled.
He put away his phone and looked at me with gentle eyes.
I felt shy under his gaze and lowered my head.
Suddenly, he reached out and lifted my chin to make me look at him.
I was forced to meet his gaze, my heart racing wildly.
"Li Ting," he said softly.
"Mm?" I responded.
"I love you," he declared.
My heart jolted, and I froze in place.
He said he loves me?
He said he loves me!
My heart was in turmoil, my eyes felt sore, and tears streamed down my face.
"I love you too," I choked out.
A glimmer of joy flashed in his eyes as he kissed my lips again.
Our kiss deepened, and the temperature around us rose.
My body melted into a puddle, and my consciousness began to blur.
All I knew was that I never wanted to be apart from Lu Hao.
Returning to school with Lu Hao, he insisted on walking me to the dormitory entrance.
"So this is what campus romance is like," Lu Hao said with a smile.
"..." I was speechless.
We reached the dormitory entrance and stopped.
"I have something to say," I said.
"What is it?" my roommates all turned to look at me.
"I..." I hesitated, unsure of how to start.
"Come on, just say it!" Xiao Mei urged.
I looked at them, took a deep breath, gathered my courage, and said, "Lu Hao and I are together."
"..." My roommates were momentarily stunned before erupting into cheers.
"That's great!" Xiao Mei exclaimed excitedly, "You finally have a boyfriend!"
"..." I was left speechless, "What do you mean 'finally'? It's as if no one wanted me before."
"No, no," Xiao Mei quickly clarified, "What I meant was that you've been single for so long, and now someone is finally willing to be with you!"
"..." I was even more speechless.
"When did you two get together?" asked my roommate Xiaoli from the upper bunk.
"Last night," I replied.
