"You’re awake." Qian Fan opened his eyes and smiled at me.
"Have you been here all along?"
"Yeah."
"You didn't sleep the whole night?"
"I couldn't sleep."
"Why?"
"I don't know." Qian Fan smiled, reaching for a jar beside him and handing it to me.
"What is this?" I looked at Qian Fan curiously.
"Open it and see." I unscrewed the lid and found it filled with star-shaped candies.
"You said last night that you wanted to see the stars," Qian Fan said gently, "so I bought these star candies for you."
"There were supposed to be other gifts, but something unexpected happened, and they didn't arrive."
"What unexpected thing?"
"It's nothing." Qian Fan smiled, "Anyway, as long as you received this gift, that's good."
"Okay." I nodded, "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Qian Fan smiled again, "After all, today is your birthday."
"Oh right." Suddenly, I remembered something, "Why do you call it 'Reach for the Stars'?"
"Because of someone," Qian Fan smiled, "she wants to become a star."
As expected.
Qian Fan has an unforgettable crush in his heart.
I looked at him, feeling a mix of sympathy and heartache.
But love and indifference have always been clear-cut.
"Why a star? Why not the sun or the moon?" I couldn't help but ask.
Qian Fan glanced at me but remained silent.
I sighed and didn't ask any further questions. The next day, as soon as I returned to my dormitory, I received a call from Aunt Qian.
On the phone, Aunt Qian was crying, struggling to catch her breath. She said she had seen the birthday wishes I sent her and was very touched. She mentioned that she had tried to call me all night but couldn't get through, and she was very anxious. She said she had transferred some money to me and hoped I would accept it. I refused. I had already taken a lot of her money. It was enough for me.
After hanging up, I sent a message to Qian Fan. "Let's break up." Soon, Qian Fan replied. "Li Zixuan, are you going to dump me again?"
"This time it's for real." I took a deep breath. "Qian Fan, we are not from the same world; let's not waste each other's time anymore."
"I'm serious."
"So am I," Qian Fan replied. "Li Zixuan, I don't think we're wasting each other's time."
"I think we are happy together."
"That's your illusion." I gritted my teeth. "Qian Fan, we really aren't suitable for each other."
"Where are we not suitable?" Qian Fan pressed on. "Wherever we're not suitable, we can change it."
"We're not suitable anywhere!" I couldn't help but say. "Qian Fan, please stop this!"
"Li Zixuan, don't be impulsive," Qian Fan said. "Calm down for a bit; when you're calm, we can talk again."
"Okay," I agreed.
I really needed to calm down. I couldn't continue like this anymore.
I have always been deceiving Qian Fan, constantly entangling myself in his life. I don't know how much longer I can keep lying to him. I fear that one day, I will have to tell him that I approached him for money. I am also afraid to ask Qian Fan about the white moonlight. I worry that our love has been a scam from the very beginning.
I brushed past Qian Fan in the rain. I softly said, "Qian Fan, we have broken up." Qian Fan stood at the bottom of the stairs, looking up at me. His eyes were dark, his face was pale, and the veins in his arms were bulging.
"Zixuan, do you think Qian Fan will come to bring us an umbrella?" Xiaowan asked with a smile while linking her arm with mine. I shook my head. "How could he..." Before I could finish my sentence, I saw Qian Fan standing downstairs, looking up at me.
