I looked at the address sent by Green Tea on my phone; it was a newly opened tea house, said to have a serene environment and exquisite snacks, very popular among socialites and wealthy women. I had arranged to meet Du Ming here, planning to subtly probe for some information.
As soon as I walked into the tea house, I saw Green Tea sitting by the window, dressed in an elegant qipao that accentuated her curvy figure, her delicate makeup adding to her charm.
“Miss Guo, Master Du, you’re here,” Green Tea said, gracefully rising with a meaningful smile on her face.
We sat down across from her. Just as I was about to speak, she beat me to it.
“Miss Guo, the Lavender Essential Oil you recommended is really great. I used it before bed, and it worked wonders,” she said, her gaze shifting to Du Ming. “Speaking of which, I have to thank Master Du for being so considerate. If he hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known how knowledgeable Miss Guo is about aromatherapy.”
I was taken aback. Did she already know something?
“Is that so? I'm glad you like it,” I forced myself to remain calm and replied with a smile.
“Miss Guo, there’s no need to pretend anymore.” Green Tea set down her teacup, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “I already know your intentions for getting close to me.”
Her tone was disdainful, as if she could see right through everything. I tightened my grip on the teacup and retorted calmly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Still playing dumb?” Green Tea chuckled lightly. “That day at the hospital, I saw you and Master Du come out of the same ward. Don’t tell me that Master Du also visits traditional Chinese medicine?”
I was momentarily speechless, still trying to figure out how to explain when Du Ming suddenly spoke up: “There’s no need for us to explain anything to you.”
His tone was cold and carried an undeniable authority. I thought Green Tea would back down, but unexpectedly, her eyes turned red: “Master Du, how can you speak to me like this just to defend her? What makes her better than me?”
Her tears made my head spin; just then, Mr. Du’s call came in.
“Ming'er, did you go meet Miss Liu with Lingxi?” Mr. Du sounded displeased. “I just received a call from Chairman Liu. He said your attitude towards Miss Liu was very poor and also mentioned…”
“Dad, don’t listen to his nonsense; we were just…” I started to explain but was interrupted by Mr. Du.
“Lingxi, I know you have good intentions, but some matters are not for you to interfere with. I will handle Ming'er’s issues; you don’t need to worry about it.”
After saying that, without waiting for me to respond, he hung up the phone. I stared blankly at my phone, feeling a mix of emotions.
“It seems that Uncle Du doesn’t trust you as much as you think,” Green Tea said smugly. “Miss Guo, I advise you to give up early; there’s no possibility between you and Master Du.”
After finishing her words, she elegantly stood up and didn’t forget to give me a meaningful glance before leaving: “By the way, I forgot to tell you that I have an afternoon tea appointment with Uncle Du tomorrow. I’ll be sure to have a good chat with him about you.”
Green Tea's words pierced my heart like sharp needles. I took a deep breath, trying hard to suppress my inner turmoil, and turned to look at Du Ming. His expression was dark; he was clearly angered by Green Tea's remarks.
“Don’t pay attention to her,” Du Ming held my hand firmly, his tone resolute. “There’s no need for us to explain anything to anyone.”
I nodded and forced myself to calm down. Although Green Tea's words were harsh, they weren’t entirely unfounded. Mr. Du’s attitude indeed left me feeling uneasy.
After returning home, I locked myself in my room and carefully recalled everything that had happened today. Green Tea's appearance undoubtedly posed a significant obstacle to our plans. She was meticulous and well aware of Mr. Du’s preferences; dealing with her would not be easy at all.
"I can't just sit here and wait any longer." I clenched my fists, silently making up my mind.
I found Du Ming and shared my thoughts and concerns with him. After listening, he furrowed his brow and fell into deep thought.
"You are right; we can no longer passively wait," Du Ming said, raising his head with a glint of determination in his eyes. "Since she wants to play games, we'll play along until the end."
We worked through the night to devise a new plan, deciding to take the initiative and expose the true nature of the green tea. However, just as we were preparing to act, we received a shocking piece of news.
"What did you say? The entire Du Family is spreading rumors about me and Du Ming?" I looked at the butler in disbelief, my voice trembling slightly.
The butler sighed and nodded helplessly. "Yes, Young Mistress. Everyone is saying... that your engagement with the young master is merely a transaction, that you are only after the Du Family's wealth..."
I felt a wave of darkness wash over me, nearly losing my balance. The green tea's move was truly vicious! Not only had she successfully sowed discord between Du Ming and me, but she had also put my position within the Du Family in jeopardy.
Faced with the relentless pressure from the green tea, could Du Ming and I turn this situation around and regain the trust of the Du Family?
