I suddenly pushed her away, taking a few steps back, shaking my head and saying, "No, I don't want to!"
The expression on Red Rose's face instantly darkened. She sneered, "Don't want to? Do you think you have any choice left?"
As she spoke, she snapped her fingers, and the surroundings suddenly changed.
I found myself engulfed in darkness, with howling winds swirling around me and the sound of a woman's piercing cries echoing in my ears.
"Where is this...?" I asked in terror.
"This is hell!" an old voice rang out beside me.
I turned to see an old man with a birthmark on his arm standing behind me. He looked at me with a complex expression and said, "Young man, you have been blinded by greed and strayed from the path. Now, you have nowhere to go..."
I looked at him and asked, "Who are you? Why are you here?"
The old man sighed and replied, "Who I am is no longer important. What matters is that you must leave here immediately, or else... you will be forever trapped in this place, unable to be reborn!"
I stared at him and asked, "Trapped? What do you mean?"
The old man did not answer my question but pointed behind me and said, "Look!"
I turned around to see Red Rose standing behind me with a strange smile on her face. In her hand, she held a dagger glinting coldly.
"What... what are you going to do?" I asked in terror.
The Red Rose sneered and said, "I want you... to stay here forever..."
As she spoke, she raised a dagger and lunged at me...
"Stop!" the old man shouted as he rushed forward, trying to intervene.
I watched in horror and despair as everything unfolded before me. Was I really going to die here?
Just at that critical moment, I suddenly felt a powerful force push me aside.
I fell to the ground and looked up to see the old man standing in front of me, the Red Rose's dagger already plunged into his chest.
"You..." I stared in shock at the scene before me, unable to speak.
The old man looked at me, a faint smile on his lips, and said, "Young man... remember... do not... be greedy..."
After he finished speaking, his body slowly collapsed, transforming into specks of starlight that dissipated into the air.
I watched all of this with a heart full of sorrow and anger. I suddenly stood up, pointed at the Red Rose, and shouted, "I will kill you!"
---
I charged at the Red Rose with a roar, but an invisible force pushed me back, causing me to crash heavily to the ground. The Red Rose laughed disdainfully, "You? You think you can kill me? You're overestimating yourself!"
Just as she was about to approach, she suddenly bent over in pain, clutching her chest, bright red blood seeping through her fingers and dripping onto the ground, making a hissing sound as it released puffs of white smoke. Red Rose looked incredulously at her chest, then glanced at the ashes of the old man on the ground, gritting her teeth and saying, "You actually..."
"Do you think I would just stand by and watch you hurt him?" A weak voice echoed in my ear. To my surprise, it was the old man's spirit; he had become even more transparent, like a candle flame in the wind, ready to extinguish at any moment.
"You... you actually burned your own soul just to save this kid?" Red Rose asked incredulously, a hint of terror in her tone.
"He... he still has a chance..." the old man's spirit said intermittently. "Child... remember... find... find the landlady's... secret..." His voice grew weaker until it finally vanished into the air, along with his spirit.
My eyes widened in rage and sorrow; the old man's sacrifice filled me with immense grief and anger. I clenched my fists and silently vowed to survive and uncover the landlady's secret!
Red Rose seemed to feel discomfort from the backlash of her power; she shot me a fierce glare and tossed out a "You're lucky this time," before transforming into a cloud of red mist and disappearing.
I stumbled to my feet, looking around to find myself enveloped in fog, unable to see the way forward. I wandered aimlessly, filled with fear and despair.
