Li Xiaolu received a power bank, and then she got the first message from Jijun. It was his name. She replied with her own name. That was the first message they exchanged. Then, Jijun said something in Cantonese that Li Xiaolu didn't catch, so she asked, "What did you say?" Jijun glanced at her and repeated in Mandarin, "I told you that you really are 'Xiao Lu,' and I like you, Xiao Lu."
Li Xiaolu looked at his chat box, feeling a moment of heart flutter. But soon, she avoided that feeling. She pretended not to understand what he was saying and turned to look out the window, asking, "How much longer until we arrive?"
Jijun replied, "About forty minutes or so."
"Oh," Li Xiaolu responded lightly. The two fell into silence again. The journey was long; Li Xiaolu hadn't slept well the night before and had been busy all day, so she dozed off.
After an unknown amount of time, she felt the car stop. She opened her eyes, groggily got out of the car, and bumped her head against the window as she exited.
Jijun chuckled, "So dazed?"
Li Xiaolu covered her head, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Uh..." She rubbed her head and followed Jijun out of the car.
They continued walking forward. Jijun suddenly asked, "Why do you have this name?"
Li Xiaolu thought for a moment and said, "Because my mom hopes I can be as clear and transparent as morning dew." Jijun nodded, "Then your mom must be a very outstanding person."
"Yeah," Li Xiaolu nodded and added, "But she's retired now."
Jijun nodded and didn't say anything further.
Li Xiaolu couldn't help but ask, "By the way, why did you speak to me in Chinese at first?"
Jijun turned to glance at her and replied casually, "Because you're very pretty."
Li Xiaolu was taken aback, staring blankly at Jijun, and then her face slowly turned red.
She whispered, "Thank you..."
Seeing her shy demeanor, Jijun couldn't help but laugh.
His smile was charming, with his eyes curving and his teeth white and even, radiating a gentle aura.
Li Xiaolu found herself momentarily mesmerized.
Jijun suddenly asked, "Did you bring an umbrella?"
"Yes," Li Xiaolu nodded and asked, "What about you?"
Jijun shook his head, "I didn't bring one."
Li Xiaolu offered, "I can lend you one."
Jijun looked at her and asked, "Do you have many umbrellas?"
Li Xiaolu nodded, "Yes, I bought quite a few."
Jijun nodded back, "Alright, then I'll return it to you next time."
"Okay."
...
Li Xiaolu thought this encounter was just a small episode during her journey, but unexpectedly, she ran into Jijun again the next day at a café.
She was sitting by the window with a cup of coffee in hand and a laptop on the table, diligently studying.
After more than two hours, she closed her laptop, stretched lazily, and then picked up her bag to leave the café.
She walked into a Chrome Hearts store. The shop had a minimalist design with various silver necklaces and bracelets hanging on the walls and earrings, rings, and other jewelry displayed on the counter.
Li Xiaolu browsed around the store and finally settled on a fishbone ring.
She asked the staff to take it out and then slipped it onto her index finger.
The size of the ring was just right—neither too loose nor too tight.
She nodded in satisfaction, then took out her bank card to pay the bill. After the payment, she instinctively took off her ring and put it on her middle finger. This was something she usually wouldn't do. She felt that wearing the ring on her index finger was more convenient and safer. But for some reason, she had just unconsciously put the ring on her middle finger. She smiled wryly, thinking that she might really be tired.
As she turned to leave, she suddenly saw Jijun walking in through the door. She froze for a moment, her heart racing. She quickly hid her hand behind her back and pretended to be calm as she said, "What a coincidence." Jijun nodded, "It is quite a coincidence."
Li Xiaolu felt like her heart was being plucked like a stringed instrument, beating erratically. She instinctively wanted to escape this unfamiliar feeling, so she said, "I’ll be going now, goodbye." After saying that, she turned around and hurriedly walked out.
Jijun watched her retreating figure, narrowing his eyes slightly. A hint of amusement flashed in his gaze. This woman was rather interesting.
