Jijun was indeed very punctual when it came to going to the supermarket. They walked out of the school gate side by side and hailed a taxi at the roadside.
"Driver, to Times Square," he said.
Jijun gentlemanly opened the car door, gesturing for Li Xiaolu to get in first.
Li Xiaolu hesitated for a moment before sitting in the front passenger seat. From the mirror, she could see Jijun's sharply defined profile; his scarf had been removed, revealing his fair neck.
The car was unusually quiet, and Li Xiaolu could hardly hear her own breathing. Jijun casually gazed out of the window while Li Xiaolu quietly shifted her gaze, pretending that nothing had happened.
After arriving at their destination, they got out of the car, with Jijun walking on the outside to shield her from the wind.
It was Li Xiaolu's first time going to the supermarket alone with a guy, and she felt somewhat awkward.
Jijun pushed the shopping cart as they walked side by side. The supermarket was warm like spring, yet Li Xiaolu still wore Jijun's scarf without returning it.
Jijun asked, "Do you usually cook for yourself?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head. "I cook less often; most of the time I eat out."
Jijun nodded. "Then I'll show you a thing or two next time, and you can give it a try."
Li Xiaolu was slightly taken aback and instinctively asked, "You can cook?"
Jijun raised an eyebrow. "Of course."
Li Xiaolu smiled slightly and didn't say anything further.
When they reached the fruit section, Li Xiaolu earnestly explained to Jijun how to pick ripe peaches. Jijun followed her method and began selecting carefully.
"This one looks pretty good," Jijun said, holding up a peach and shaking it toward Li Xiaolu.
She leaned in to take a look and nodded. "This one is nice; you should try it."
Jijun leaned closer to sniff it and smiled with satisfaction. "It's very sweet."
At checkout, Jijun took the initiative to pay, and Li Xiaolu did not refuse.
As they exited the supermarket, Jijun asked her, "Are you hungry? I know a good restaurant nearby; I've already made a reservation."
"Alright," Li Xiaolu said.
The two of them walked towards the restaurant together. Jijun walked ahead while Li Xiaolu followed behind, watching his back, a strange feeling welling up in her heart. She had imagined countless scenarios of meeting Jijun, but she never expected it to be like this today.
She had thought they would act like ordinary friends, having meals together, chatting, watching movies, or even traveling together. However, she never imagined that they would be in a supermarket, picking out ingredients like a couple, and then going home together to cook a meal.
This feeling made her feel warm and happy. The restaurant had an elegant atmosphere, with dim lighting and soothing music that relaxed the body and mind. Jijun ordered several dishes and then handed the menu to Li Xiaolu, saying, "Take a look and see if there's anything you want."
Li Xiaolu shook her head and replied, "I like everything you've ordered." Jijun smiled slightly but didn't say anything more.
During the wait for the food to arrive, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere felt a bit awkward. Li Xiaolu wanted to find a topic to discuss but didn't know what to say. Jijun quietly sipped his tea, his gaze calm and devoid of emotion.
Suddenly, Li Xiaolu felt that there seemed to be a lack of common language between them. When she was with other boys in the past, there were always endless topics to talk about, but with Jijun, she found herself at a loss for words. Perhaps this is what they call fate. Some people are destined to pass by each other, while others can share their lives together. She and Jijun should belong to the latter.
The dishes were quickly served, and Li Xiaolu took a few bites; the taste was excellent. Jijun watched her eat with delight, a hint of a smile appearing in his eyes. Li Xiaolu looked up and asked him, "You should eat too."
Jijun smiled and replied, "I'm not hungry."
Li Xiaolu was a bit confused. "Why did you order so many dishes?"
Jijun smiled and replied, "I like watching you eat."
Li Xiaolu's face turned red as she lowered her head and continued eating.
Seeing her shy demeanor, Jijun's smile deepened.
After finishing their meal, Jijun walked Li Xiaolu home.
As they were parting, Jijun suddenly called out to her. "Li Xiaolu."
Li Xiaolu stopped and turned to look at him. "Hmm?"
Jijun smiled again, "It's nothing, I just wanted to call you."
Li Xiaolu's face flushed slightly as she turned to leave.
Jijun stood there for a moment, watching her walk into the hallway before he turned to leave.
