Jijun Could he be a jerk? She thought, feeling somewhat skeptical.
Although she had not known Jijun for long, she could sense his sincerity. Moreover, he had saved her twice; if he were truly a jerk, why would he do such things?
Li Xiaolu was lost in thought when she suddenly heard Zhang Lin say, "By the way, your birthday is the day after tomorrow, right?"
Li Xiaolu snapped back to reality and smiled, "Yes."
Zhang Lin looked at her with anticipation and asked, "What do you want as a gift?"
Li Xiaolu replied with a smile, "Just having you accompany me for a meal will be enough."
Zhang Lin nodded, "No problem."
Suddenly remembering something, she looked at Li Xiaolu and said, "Hey, the day after tomorrow is also Jijun's birthday."
Li Xiaolu was surprised and asked, "How did you know?"
Zhang Lin laughed, "I saw it in his profile last time."
Li Xiaolu felt a slight shock; she hadn't realized that her birthday was only a month apart from Jijun's.
She looked at Zhang Lin and smiled, "It seems we have quite a connection."
Zhang Lin nodded, "Yeah, who would have thought it was such a coincidence?"
Li Xiaolu chuckled but felt somewhat complicated inside. Did she and Jijun really have a connection?
After finishing dinner and cleaning up the dishes while Zhang Lin washed them in the kitchen, Li Xiaolu sat in the living room gazing out the window, feeling a bit dazed.
She recalled what Zhang Lin had just said; could Jijun really be that kind of person? Would he truly be a jerk? She pondered this but found it hard to believe.
She couldn't believe that the boy who saved her could be that kind of person. But why did he do that? He clearly could have ignored her; he saved her but then treated her coldly. What was the reason behind it?
Li Xiaolu was lost in thought when suddenly, Zhang Lin's voice interrupted, "Hey, Lulu, look! The news about Jijun is out."
Li Xiaolu paused and quickly walked over to look at Zhang Lin's phone. On the screen was a photo of Jijun, dressed in a black suit and wearing sunglasses, looking cool and handsome. Beside him was a blonde foreign woman, the two of them closely cuddled together, appearing to be a couple.
As Li Xiaolu gazed at the photo, her heart ached, and tears nearly fell. Zhang Lin looked at her and hurriedly comforted her, "Don't think too much; maybe this is just a misunderstanding."
Li Xiaolu looked at her and forced a smile, "I know."
Zhang Lin sighed as she looked at her, "Don't be too sad; after all, you two aren't close."
A wave of bitterness washed over Li Xiaolu. She didn't want to overthink it, but she couldn't control her feelings. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself down and then looked at Zhang Lin and said, "I'm fine; don't worry about me."
Zhang Lin looked at her, hesitating to say something.
Li Xiaolu smiled and reassured her, "I really am fine; you can rest easy."
Zhang Lin sighed again, "Alright then, since you say so, I’ll feel better." After a pause, she added, "But I still want to remind you that men like Jijun are not suitable for boyfriends."
Li Xiaolu smiled and replied, "I know."
Inside, she felt a pang of sadness; she knew very well that she and Jijun were from completely different worlds. Yet, she just couldn't let go of him.
After finishing dinner, Zhang Lin left. Li Xiaolu washed up and then lay on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. She took out her phone and checked WeChat; Jijun had only sent her two messages: one with a photo of Beibei and another saying he was home.
Aside from that, he didn't send any other messages. Li Xiaolu looked at her phone, feeling a wave of frustration. Was he really that busy? Did he not even have time to chat with her? She thought about it and felt a bit angry.
She stared at her phone, hesitating for a moment before finally giving in and sending him a message. "Why didn't you message me today?"
The message was sent, but after waiting for a long time, there was still no response. Li Xiaolu's anger grew as she continued to look at her phone. How dare he not reply to her message!
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Jijun. Li Xiaolu felt a surge of excitement as she looked at the screen, but she quickly froze. Jijun had sent a voice message.
After hesitating for a moment, Li Xiaolu clicked on the voice message. Jijun's deep voice came through the earpiece. "I'm not feeling well today. When I called you yesterday, I had the window open, so I might have caught a cold." His voice was a bit hoarse, sounding like he had just woken up.
