Who knows, Zheng Xuezhang made a strong statement, and when I countered him, not only did he not leave, but his resolve became even stronger. He gritted his teeth and glared at me, saying, "Just wait, I'll bring the money within three days. You better get it done for me."
My heart raced significantly; this was a three hundred percent profit. On the surface, I had to pretend to be indifferent and said, "Be a bit more polite; I'm not a servant, and my family doesn't lack this little money. Do you see the White Olive Amulet around my neck? It was personally made by Thai Saint Monk Long Po Master before he passed away. Back in '86, it was worth three thousand; calculate how much it's worth now. Do I really need to scam you for that little amount?"
Zheng Xuezhang had heard of my White Olive Amulet. He stared at it for a while, and his tightly clenched fists slowly relaxed. I knew my words had an effect. Showing the White Olive Amulet was meant to ease his wariness and tension.
Three days later, Zheng Xuezhang indeed brought a bag of money—eight thousand yuan in total. I didn't ask him where he got such a large sum; after confirming there were no counterfeit bills, I told him that the Wealth-Attracting Spirit had already been sent and would likely arrive in a few days. Before that, I needed to know his father's date of birth because I would have to summon spirits at the crossroads.
Upon hearing this, Zheng Xuezhang immediately pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it over, which had His Father's birthday written on it. I looked up at him and smiled, saying, "Alright, that's efficient."
Zheng Xuezhang smiled shyly and said, "Will you accompany me to summon them?"
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing what he meant. I quickly waved my hand and said, "Sorry, I don't get involved with that stuff. If you're scared, just find a couple more people to go with you. There are so many people in the dorm; just grab a few."
Zheng Xuezhang lowered his head slightly and said softly, "I'm embarrassed to tell them; otherwise, if we lose, it'll be something they'll laugh about for life."
I scoffed and said, "You've already done it; why worry about what others think? Can their laughter affect your growth?"
Seeing that I firmly disagreed, Zheng Xuezhang gritted his teeth and said, "I'll add another thousand! Is that okay?"
I was slightly taken aback and thought this guy must be crazy; pulling ten or eight workers off the street wouldn't cost a thousand yuan. Looking up at him, I said, "This is an Amulet. Everything is arranged by the Ajan Master, so there won't be any accidents. Besides, I'm just making some pocket money following family traditions; I'm not an expert. If something goes wrong, it won't make a difference whether I'm there or not."
Zheng Xuezhang refused to believe this and pleaded with me to help him out. He mentioned that when His Father used to work in seafood, he knew many big Bosses, and quite a few lost face if they lost. If he could stand back up from the card table this time, those Bosses would definitely come looking for my Amulet.
This made my heart race. Businesspeople usually have extensive networks, and to make money, they often invite spirits or deities for protection. Regardless of whether it works or not, at least it eases the mind. Personally, I do believe in amulets; if Zheng's Father can win big, it might really bring me a lot of clients.
After some consideration, I said to Zheng Xuezhang, "Given your sincerity, fine. Once the amulet arrives, I'll accompany you tonight. But if your dad wins money, don't forget to introduce me to some clients."
Zheng Xuezhang replied, "Leave that to me. If you don't believe it, just come along with me and let my dad introduce you in person!"
Having received the payment, I naturally had to fulfill my end of the deal. Soon, Second Uncle sent over the Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost and reminded me of some precautions. He took this matter seriously because this little ghost was quite powerful and could easily cause trouble.
I readily agreed and then one night handed the Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost over to Zheng Xuezhang. This was my first time seeing such a powerful spirit. It looked similar to the Love Binding Charm I sold to Guo Senior, but it was entirely black. Second Uncle mentioned that it was primarily made from infant ashes mixed with Corpse Oil and ghost powder. Additionally, there was a plate of Yin Powder blessed by an Ajan, which was used for summoning spirits at night.
Zheng Xuezhang had already prepared the necessary items and planned to summon the Spirit Child that very night. Moreover, his father was aware of this and promised not to go to the gambling table until after the spirit was brought back.
Our school wasn't very strict about management; many students sneaked out to have fun after lights out. By midnight, I climbed over the wall and saw Zheng Xuezhang waiting for me.
It was clear he was anxious; he probably wanted money so badly that he couldn't wait to take the Spirit Child and win a hundred or eighty thousand right away.
As soon as he saw me, he pulled me towards Tongsha Road. While walking, he said excitedly, "I thought about it; we’re definitely going to win this time. Do you know what the place we're heading to is called? Tongsha Road! Isn't that just perfect for killing it!"
I couldn't help but laugh at his words; if this intersection were truly so great, it wouldn't be packed with gamblers and wouldn't have so many accidents.
Although Tongsha Road is an intersection, it's very narrow, especially at the southwestern corner where a newsstand blocks visibility. Many vehicles can't see what's coming from the other side when turning; if one's attention wavers even slightly, accidents are likely to happen. In my years at university, nearly ten people had died at this intersection alone—it's incredibly dangerous. Even during the day, passing through feels chilling; local residents often report hearing screeching brakes at night only to find no sign of any ghosts when they look out their windows.
Those familiar with the area prefer to take a longer route at night rather than pass through here for fear of being haunted by some fierce spirit. I must say that while most horror films both domestically and internationally are of poor quality, they do excel at creating psychological shadows.
On the day I went with Zheng Xuezhang, not only were the stars hidden, but even the moon was nowhere to be seen. Zheng Xuezhang looked up at the sky and asked me, "Is this day really effective for summoning ghosts?"
It was my first time accompanying someone to find a ghost, and I was already nervous. Hearing his words made everything feel even more bizarre, so I quickly said, "Stop talking nonsense and let’s finish this and go back!"
When we reached the intersection, Zheng Xuezhang placed the Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost on the ground and asked me what to do. I instructed him to follow what we had discussed earlier: to place the paper with Father's Birthday written on it under the spirit child, set up the Offerings, and then uncover the Yin Powder and place it beside it. After that, we began reciting the Invocation Spell. The Invocation Spell was short but had strange pronunciations. Zheng Xuezhang listened to the recording and practiced for several days before he could stutteringly learn it.
Once everything was set up, Zheng Xuezhang knelt in front of the Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost and quietly recited the Invocation Spell. He needed to chant it three times to summon the Spirit Child. During the first chant, I felt a breeze starting to pick up around us; I thought it was just a natural occurrence. However, by the second chant, something felt off.
The wind began to swirl around us, and I felt a bit anxious. I tried to reassure myself that it was just a natural micro-tornado forming at the intersection and there was nothing to fear! At the same time, I kept my head down, focusing all my attention on my toes in hopes of reducing my anxiety.
Zheng Xuezhang seemed oblivious; he diligently finished chanting the Invocation Spell three times. When he uttered the last syllable, I suddenly heard a creaking sound, like an emergency brake being applied, followed by a faint bang as if something had collided.
Instinctively, I looked up to see what had happened, but the dark street corner was empty except for the swirling wind that brought with it a faint howling sound.
I started regretting agreeing to accompany Zheng Xuezhang for this ghost-summoning venture. It didn’t seem too bad during the day, but coming here in the dead of night for practical practice made me realize how truly terrifying this was!
The sound of the wind grew louder; the white paper beneath the spirit child rustled loudly in response to the gusts, while the Yin Powder was blown away into who knows where. Zheng Xuezhang was also quite nervous; under normal circumstances, he would have stood up long ago. Before we came here, I had told him that he could only move after completing the ritual; otherwise, it would offend the spirit child. So he could only grip his pants tightly and kneel there without daring to move.
After a while, Zheng Xuezhang suddenly shouted, "Got it! Got it!"
At that moment, all my attention was focused on our surroundings; I was afraid of seeing a ghost and equally afraid of not seeing one if it came. His shout startled me into jumping up as I cautiously scanned around and asked, "What! What’s here! Where?!"
