"Whatever you two!" Hu Xiaoyi angrily pulled the blanket over his head.
Liang Xi looked at him, then at me, and to ease the tension, asked, "Who in your family is sick?"
"Your family is the one that's sick," I said, feeling confused by Hu Xiaoyi's reaction. I didn't think I had said anything wrong; otherwise, would Liang Xi agree with that viewpoint? So I replied irritably, "It's a senior from the Business Department, someone I used to know."
Liang Xi didn't ask further. A straightforward person like him usually wouldn't have any interaction with a senior sister. However, he was somewhat dissatisfied with my decision to bring Ling Gui Tu Pai Ying to the dormitory, finding it too frightening.
I said, "Grandpa said this is a good little ghost. Besides, I've never made any wishes on it; I'm just nurturing a bond, so it won't do anything bad."
Hu Xiaoyi buried his head in the blanket and said, "Who knows if it's good or bad? If we knew, we wouldn't have such problems!"
I had nothing more to say. Seeing this, Liang Xi sighed, patted my shoulder, and climbed into bed to sleep.
Thus began the second half of the semester, and it wasn't until the first day of classes that I remembered I hadn't done my winter break homework. Before going to Thailand, the three of them had promised to help me out, but then our leader Zhang Qichao had an accident, and we all forgot about it.
The teacher called me into the office and criticized me vigorously. On the surface, it looked like I was bowing my head in apology, but inside I was cursing Liang Xi and Hu Xiaoyi's ancestors.
This incident caused a stir all day long. When I returned to the dormitory that evening and saw Liang Xi and Hu Xiaoyi, I felt angry. This time, they were the ones who felt confused. The two of them had completely forgotten what they had promised me before going to Thailand.
On the third day of school, when I went to the cafeteria for lunch, I ran into Guo Senior. He looked no different from when he was in the hospital—still in a sickly state—making everyone around think he had some terminal illness and keeping their distance from him.
I greeted him in the past and asked if he was feeling any better. Guo Senior shook his head, sighed, and said, "People are just despicable. When you don't have it, you think about it every day; when you do have it, you can't handle it."
I was taken aback for a moment but quickly understood what he meant and couldn't help but exclaim, "You've come to school, and you two are still at it?"
Guo Senior looked quite embarrassed. He glanced around to see if anyone was nearby, and then whispered to me, "You don't know. During the break, she and I broke up once due to disagreements. Later, one night she came to find me, particularly docile. Since then, she comes to find me every night; it's like she can't help herself."
I was greatly surprised and said, "She went to your house? But what's wrong with that? It's understandable at home, but in the dorm with so many people around, how could she possibly force herself on you?"
Guo Senior lowered his head and said, "It's not in the dorm; she always calls me out—either to the playground, the small garden, or the classroom. And every time I see her, I can't control myself. I’m not joking; my legs feel as weak as noodles. If I weren't afraid of embarrassing myself, I would have collapsed already."
I glanced at him; his legs were indeed trembling slightly. I almost laughed out loud and said, "Women in their thirties are like wolves and in their forties like tigers. She's not even at her peak yet. With your physique, you still want to marry her? Tsk tsk, should I take you to buy some tiger whip or something to brew into liquor?"
"Stop making fun of me. At first, she wasn't this enthusiastic. I wondered if it was because of your Amulet," Guo Senior suddenly thought of this possibility.
I was taken aback; can an Amulet influence a person's desires? The answer is yes. Yin talismans and spirits like Earth Child primarily help fulfill people's wishes—such as greed or lust. However, any kind of wish can be seen as a desire, whether it's physiological or psychological.
However, I've never heard Second Uncle mention that something could influence someone to this extent. Seeing my puzzled expression, Guo Senior suddenly changed the topic and said, "Hurry up and line up for food; I still need to check some materials later."
I nodded and didn't pursue the topic further but felt strange inside. Guo Senior's family lives in the countryside; does Senior Sister go there every night without her family knowing?
After leaving the cafeteria, I didn't see Guo Senior for an entire week. During that week, a local delinquent wanted to buy a Yin talisman from me to attract peach blossoms. At that time, I hadn't fully recovered from what happened with Boss Zhang Qichao and naturally didn't want to engage in similar business again. The delinquent was a bit aggressive; he spat in front of me and said, "What’s this nonsense? You think you're so important? If you won't sell it to me, I'll just find someone else!"
His family had some money; he was just in college to get a diploma. Whether he graduated depended entirely on how much his father was willing to spend on connections. So usually at school, he focused mainly on chasing girls. To such an underachiever who didn't care about studying, all I could say was: "We're in the same line of work! We're all part of the same organization!"
Rivals in the same industry are enemies, so I definitely won't sell him the Amulet. However, a few sophomore Senior Sisters, who know about the Amulet, formed a group to buy several Scripture Law Rings and Fortune Beads. Additionally, there was a Senior Sister with the surname Qin who bought an Authentic Queen Nang Phaya Buddha as a birthday gift for her sister.
I have to admit, these women are great at bargaining. One would cling to my left arm while another would cling to my right, calling me "little junior" and "handsome guy," while playfully poking my chest. I was completely distracted and lost track of costs. Since these sacred items aren't worth much—only a few dozen bucks each—it's no surprise that after buying seven or eight of them, they realized they actually lost over twenty bucks. Even the Authentic that Qin Senior Sister bought ended up being sold at a loss because of their antics. If Second Uncle found out, he would surely scold me.
A week later, while I was having lunch in the cafeteria, Liang Xi came over and said that Guo Senior had been beaten up when he came looking for me. I heard it was quite severe and he had already been sent to the hospital.
I was surprised; Guo Senior and Liang Xi are similar types—honest and timid, scared of even a fierce cat—and I couldn't imagine him getting into a fight. Liang Xi couldn't clarify either, so I had to go to the Business Department to ask a few people who knew what happened. It turned out that Guo Senior's beating wasn't undeserved.
In the past two weeks, his health had deteriorated further, but his temper had grown increasingly worse. At first, he would only get angry occasionally over jokes, but gradually his temper flared up more often. In the dormitory, as soon as he returned, there was to be no noise allowed. If you turned pages too loudly, he would scold you. Making phone calls outside? Playing games? Eating in the cafeteria? Wasn't there enough space?
In the end, it didn't matter if you provoked him; even if you just walked by with improper posture, he would start yelling. Initially, people tolerated him because they thought his health issues were affecting his behavior. But patience has its limits; who is obligated to accommodate him everywhere?
This morning during break time, two male classmates were discussing Xiao Ze Maria together. Guo Senior either couldn't stand it or something else triggered him; he went over and threw their textbooks away, saying, "If you like women so much, why are you studying? Just get out of school!"
Many people were already dissatisfied with him, and his self-righteous attitude only fueled their anger further. The two classmates initially didn't want to fight back; they thought their discussion wasn't bothering him and questioned who he was to interfere with their studies. How could someone so rude as to throw books act like that?
After just a couple of exchanges from Guo Senior, he suddenly raised a bench and swung it at them. Both classmates were members of the school's track team and physically fit. Since Guo Senior made the first move, they couldn't hold back any longer and immediately fought back.
Guo Senior was already weak from poor health and got knocked down by a punch right on his nose. After being kicked repeatedly, more members from the track team showed up upon hearing about this nerd causing trouble. Thankfully, the Department Head arrived just in time; otherwise, given Guo Senior's condition, he would have likely been beaten into pieces.
Even so, Guo Senior still took quite a beating—covered in blood with several teeth knocked out—but he refused to back down this time. He pointed at those two classmates and cursed at them furiously. His frantic demeanor made him seem almost insane.
