I was puzzled, wondering what was going on. How could such a straightforward person suddenly have such a bad temper? However, what confused me even more was, "Who is Xiao Ze Maria?"
This question earned me several middle fingers from the seniors, telling me to get lost. I felt wronged; I genuinely didn't know who Xiao Ze Maria was, but I was quite familiar with Aoi Sora.
In any case, that was roughly how things went down. I found it both amusing and infuriating. But upon further reflection, could Guo Senior's inexplicable change really be due to the Amulet? With that thought in mind, I couldn't sit still. However, it wasn't dismissal time yet, and the gatekeeper wouldn't let me out. Unable to leave, I decided to find Guo Senior's girlfriend, Senior Sister.
To my surprise, when Senior Sister learned I was looking for her to figure out why Guo Senior had changed so drastically, she immediately became upset and said, "It's been over a month since we broke up. Why are you asking me? I don't know anything!"
I replied, "Oh come on, Senior Sister, please help me out. I know you two broke up, but didn't you get back together? Just tell me about Guo Senior..."
"When did we get back together? Stop talking nonsense! You're crazy!" Senior Sister angrily walked away.
Watching her leave, I realized I wouldn't get any answers from her. At that moment, I thought she must be a snob; seeing Guo Senior embarrassed made her want to distance herself. But I knew full well that she went to see him every night for "business"! Acting all pure like a virtuous woman!
With no clues from Senior Sister, I had no choice but to wait until school was over and then make a trip to the hospital. By the time I arrived at the hospital, the teacher and classmates who brought Guo Senior had already left. The ward door was tightly closed, and through the window, I could see him flailing his arms and shouting. I heard voices from inside: "No! I'm not doing this anymore... Let's not do this! Don't force me; otherwise, I'll take you down with me!"
A passing nurse saw me peering at the door and said, "Don't look anymore; he's a lunatic. It's really sad; he's so young and has such an illness. I've heard he's even a college student."
A lunatic? I turned back in surprise and asked her, "Why do you say that?"
The nurse pointed into the ward and said, "Look at him; there's no one else in there. He's flailing around by himself—what else could he be if not a lunatic?"
I ignored the nurse further and pushed open the ward door to walk in. The nurse initially tried to stop me but left with a flushed face upon realizing I was his classmate.
Once inside the ward, I approached Guo Senior and called his name. He looked pale and emaciated with a vacant stare. It wasn't until I shouted his name several times and firmly grabbed his wildly flailing hands that he slowly quieted down. After a while, his eyes gradually regained clarity; when he finally recognized me, he suddenly burst into tears and said, "I don't want this! I really don't want this! Everyone is forcing me!"
I held his hand and said, "No one is forcing you; it's just me here. Stop crying and tell me what's wrong. I've heard people say you've been in a bad mood lately."
Guo Senior covered his face and cried out loud, saying, "I don't know. I just get annoyed when I see them. I don't want to feel this way."
Seeing him so heartbroken, I didn't want to press further; I just hoped he could calm down a bit. However, just as I was about to leave, Guo Senior suddenly grabbed my arm. With tear-streaked cheeks and a hopeful look in his eyes, he pleaded, "Please don't go. Stay with me tonight, okay? I really can't take it anymore. If she comes, please help me stop her. I'm really at my breaking point!"
"She? Senior Sister?" I scoffed and said, "Don't worry; she shouldn't come today."
Given Senior Sister's attitude earlier, it would be surprising if she came to find Guo Senior for any reason. But Guo Senior didn't think so; he insisted that I stay, saying, "Ever since you arrived, I feel so much safer! Really! Just for one night; my parents will be here tomorrow. Please help me; don't leave me alone here. I'm really scared!"
Looking at his somewhat fearful expression, it was hard to imagine how strong Senior Sister's desire must be to make a grown man feel this way. Out of sympathy, I ultimately agreed to his request and stayed for the night.
Guo Senior was on the verge of a breakdown; he even had to follow me when I went to buy food. Soon, night fell, and we had dinner in the hospital room. After chatting for a while and seeing that he looked much better, I smiled and said, "See? As long as you relax, everything will be fine."
Guo Senior lowered his head and said, "You don't understand; when she comes looking for me every day, it feels like torture. Now, whenever I see her, I want to run away. I really want to break up but can't bring myself to do it."
"Do you love her that much? Aren't you afraid of wearing yourself out?" I joked.
At my words, Guo Senior trembled slightly before sighing and saying, "Maybe that's why my temper has been getting worse. Now that I've calmed down, I realize how irrational I've been and how many classmates I've offended. Do you think I might have a split personality?"
"You'd have to ask a doctor; I'm not an expert in psychology," I replied. "But regardless, you need to learn to keep yourself calm first. There's nothing that can't be resolved; don't let small matters affect your whole life."
Guo Senior listened intently and seemed to agree with me. We talked until nearly dawn when he unknowingly fell asleep. Looking at his emaciated body, I sighed and shook my head. Love and affection are pursued by many, yet how many suffer because of them?
I covered him with a blanket and noticed he was sleeping soundly before deciding to step out for a smoke at the stairwell. After talking for so long in the hospital room, I felt stifled; it seemed like I'd never spoken so much in my life. In my heart, I increasingly appreciated the hardships faced by my grandparents. Just a few clients had worn me out like a dog; running around like they do must be busier than the Prime Minister.
After smoking at the stairwell and enjoying the evening breeze, I felt much better. After extinguishing the cigarette butt and tossing it into the trash can, I headed back toward the hospital room. However, when I reached the door of the room, I faintly heard moaning sounds coming from inside.
It was a man's voice. Looking through the window, I saw Guo Senior's hand under the blanket, continuously arching his back on the hospital bed. It seemed like he was... well, you know.
I felt both amused and exasperated. Just a moment ago, he said he couldn't take it anymore, and now he was doing it himself. I was at a loss for words, but I didn't want to just walk in; it would be so awkward if I caught him in the act.
I waited outside for quite a while, about ten to twenty minutes, until Guo Senior finally finished. Watching him regain his composure, I couldn't help but admire him; he could take that long doing it—this guy must be something else.
When I pushed open the hospital room door, a gust of wind blew past me, and I instinctively pulled my clothes tighter. But when I looked up, I noticed the window was closed. I didn't think much of it and walked over to the bedside, only to see Guo Senior's body trembling violently. His brow was furrowed as if he were having a nightmare.
I approached and patted his arm, calling out to him several times. Guo Senior suddenly opened his eyes wide and shouted, "No!"
I was startled by his reaction and couldn't help but complain, "What are you doing? Why are you so jumpy?"
Guo Senior sat up and grabbed my arm, making a pained sound. "She came! She came! I can't take it anymore! Why didn't you stop her? Are you in cahoots with her? Tell me! Are you in cahoots with her?"
Despite his frail appearance, he had quite a grip when he held onto my arm. It hurt a bit, and I frowned. "Calm down! Look around—there's no one here! What are you talking about? Are you messing with me?"
I had only been out of the room for about five minutes, and no one had come in during that time. To me, it seemed like Guo Senior was just putting on an act; he had just been... well, you know, and now he was pretending to have a nightmare?
However, his expression made me feel something was off. His face and eyes were filled with genuine fear as if he had just experienced a disaster. His bloodshot eyes frightened me, so I patiently tried to comfort him. "You were having a nightmare; it wasn't real. I've been here the whole time; no one came in."
"No, it wasn't a dream! It was real! She came! She really came!" Guo Senior shouted at me frantically.
