I was completely stunned. Was this a ploy to play the victim? Before I could gather my thoughts, Zheng's Mother lunged at me. She clawed and scratched, punching and kicking as if I were her sworn enemy.
At that moment, I was truly speechless. I never expected that Spirit Child would scheme against me in this way. It temporarily released its mental control over that foolish woman, and Zheng Xuezhang immediately enacted a plan of self-sacrifice, which surprisingly worked.
After all, this was Spirit Child we were dealing with, resorting to such despicable tactics? It goes without saying that in life, it must have been a despised troublemaker!
Although I knew Zheng's Mother had been enchanted by Spirit Child before and was now misled by Zheng Xuezhang's words while still not fully conscious, the fact that I was being assaulted by a woman left my heart burning with anger.
At that moment, Zheng Xuezhang trembled and said, "Mom, the thing he’s holding makes me feel sick. I don’t want to see it..."
Zheng's Mother looked down and saw the White Olive Amulet in my hand. She immediately went wild trying to snatch it from me. This was my life-saving card; I couldn't let her take it. Unable to contain my anger and helplessness any longer, I slapped her across the face and shouted, "Wake up! Your husband and son are possessed by Spirit Child! If you keep messing with me, you'll all die!"
Zheng's Mother disregarded my words and yelled that she would fight me. I truly didn't want to hit a woman willing to risk everything for her son and husband, but if I didn't act, my fate would surely be grim. Just as I hesitated, she suddenly lowered her head and bit down hard on my palm.
I felt like I had fallen into the jaws of a mother tiger; the intense pain was unbearable. The thin string holding the White Olive Amulet was also snapped in the chaos and fell from my hand. Anger made me lose all restraint as I threw a punch at her face and then kicked her hard in the abdomen.
She staggered back several steps, bloodshot eyes glaring at me. A strange smile began to spread across her face as if her scheme had succeeded.
I wished I could dig a hole and bury her alive, but this wasn’t the time for petty revenge. I immediately bent down to pick up the Amulet. Just then, a gust of wind rushed past me, catching me off guard as someone tackled me onto the bed. Zheng's Father grabbed both of my hands tightly, his entire body pressing down on me. He leaned in close, blood dripping onto me.
A chilling wind swirled around us, seemingly trying to seep into my bones. Instinctively, I thought this might be the sign that Spirit Child intended to possess me! Second Uncle's words echoed in my mind; without hesitation, I closed my eyes and held my breath, trying not to think or listen, striving to maintain calmness in my heart to avoid being possessed by Spirit Child.
Zheng's Father stared at me like a beast ready to devour its prey for several seconds. Perhaps sensing no opportunity to exploit, he slowly lifted his head. Feeling the pressure ease slightly, I cracked open my eyes just enough to see Zheng Xuezhang bending over to look at me.
As soon as he noticed that I had opened my eyes, the strange smile on his face grew wider. Just then, I saw a wooden stick coming down from above. There was a loud thud on my forehead, and before I could even feel the pain, I lost consciousness.
When I woke up again, my head felt like it was about to explode, and my face was uncomfortable, seemingly due to blood that had flowed down from my head and formed a scab. I felt anxious and disoriented, with a slight urge to vomit. Struggling against the discomfort, I glanced around and realized I was in an unfamiliar room. The Zheng family was nowhere to be found; I was all alone in the room. I intended to sit up, but as soon as I tried to move, I felt restraints. Looking down, I saw that my hands and feet had been tied to the headboard and foot of the bed.
I struggled hard for a few moments, but it was futile. Just then, footsteps echoed from outside. Turning my head, I saw the Zheng family slowly walking in.
They wore smiles on their faces, but the blood that had not been wiped off their bodies made them look terrifying. What frightened me even more was that one of them held a dagger, another carried a plate, and the last one had dice in hand.
They stood beside me in silence, staring at me for a long time. Feeling uncomfortable under their gaze, I couldn't help but shout, "If you have the guts, just kill me! Don't think I'm afraid of you!"
"You tricked me," Zheng Xuezhang suddenly spoke up.
I was slightly taken aback, thinking he had regained his senses. But upon closer inspection, his expression still looked bizarre.
"What did I trick you about?" Although I didn't understand why he suddenly said this, I had to play along with him to buy some time for my survival.
Zheng Xuezhang's face immediately contorted with rage as he shouted at me, "You made our family lose everything! You're a fraud! People who don't keep their promises deserve to die!"
I stared in horror at the dagger flailing around with his arm, fearing it might suddenly stab me. Looking at Zheng Xuezhang's crazed expression, I tried to soften my tone: "It's because you were too greedy. You clearly won a lot; if you could learn to be satisfied, this wouldn't have happened."
"It's all your fault!" Zheng Xuezhang suddenly bent down and glared at me fiercely. "You ruined us! Now, I want you to taste this feeling!"
My heart tightened. Before I could speak up, Zheng Xuezhang declared, "I want to gamble with you! You need to know that we can win a lot of money!"
I replied, "I didn't bring any money..."
Zheng Xuezhang had a strange expression and said, "It's fine, we won't bet money. The loser will have to cut off something from their body as compensation."
This wager immediately made my hair stand on end. The Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost was a tool for gamblers; betting against it was like courting death! I was furious; how could this Spirit Child be so shameless!
But what could I do?
The knife was in their hands, while I was bound hand and foot. If I refused, they might just kill me outright. If I agreed, perhaps by betting slowly, I could hold out until Second Uncle arrived.
After thinking it over, I had already made up my mind. I just pretended to be considering it to buy some time. Zheng Xuezhang and the others waited nearby; at first, they were patient, but as time passed, their expressions grew increasingly menacing. Ten minutes later, Zheng Xuezhang suddenly plunged the knife into the bed and said fiercely, "Let's bet now!"
This was no longer a question but a direct decision made for me. Such a domineering and unreasonable attitude could only come from the Spirit Child.
Knowing I could no longer delay, I had no choice but to agree. At the same time, I understood why his mother held dice in her hand. Before the game started, I said, "How about we start with smaller bets like before? We can begin with hair. If I lose, you can cut off a handful of my hair until one side runs out of hair to bet."
"No way!" Zheng's Father coldly replied. "My son sold his kidney on the Gambling Table; we start with that! If you lose, we'll take your kidney; if you lose again, we'll take your liver!"
Cold sweat broke out on me. I wanted to suggest that they switch to playing Landlord or Chess or Go—something that could last for hours. But looking at Zheng Xuezhang's fierce expression, I couldn't bring myself to say anything against it.
The rules of this gambling game were very simple: it was about high or low and three-of-a-kind. What baffled me was that Zheng's Mother was the dealer, and if three-of-a-kind was rolled, both father and son would win.
What a ridiculous situation...
I truly hated gambling and even more so hated betting against such a shameless family. But what could I do? Some might say that this situation was like being raped; when you can't resist, you have to learn to enjoy it. But let me ask you: if the man who assaulted you was short and quick, would you even remember how to spell "enjoy"?
In the first round, I didn't think much of it; since my fate was in their hands anyway, I decided to bet high without hesitation.
Zheng's Mother squatted by the bed, casually tossing the Sic Bo dice into the bowl. The three dice spun around for a few moments before stopping, showing four, five, and six!
I was stunned; did I really roll a big win? Isn't the Fortune Goblin an expert in this area? How could they lose?
Before I could process it, the bowl suddenly fell to the ground with a loud crash. I turned my head, and what unfolded before me was horrifying. Zheng Xuezhang and His Father coldly pushed that poor woman to the ground, directly lifted her clothing, and plunged a knife into her abdomen.
Blood gushed out like a fountain, and the woman looked dazed, lying motionless on the floor. Even when Zheng Xuezhang cut open her belly and reached inside to rummage around, she seemed completely unresponsive.
In my ears, I could hear the sound of her skin being violently torn apart. The scene was too gruesome; I didn't want to dwell on it or describe it further.
Before long, Zheng Xuezhang shouted, holding up a bloody kidney still attached to some blood vessels. He casually tossed aside what he had pulled from his mother's body and excitedly yelled at me, "Quick! Bet again!"
I couldn't find words to describe what was happening; they had truly lost their minds... Not only were they proposing such a horrific wager, but they were also using their own wife and mother as stakes. Second Uncle was right; the Wealth-Inviting Spirit Child Ghost was powerful, but it was not something ordinary people could control!
Looking at the woman on the ground, her body beginning to convulse from blood loss and her complexion turning pale, I sighed inwardly and then placed a small bet.
Zheng's Father picked up the dice again and retrieved the bowl, tossing them in carelessly. The Sic Bo quickly settled on one, two, and four—small!
The expressions on their faces were utterly deranged as they turned menacingly towards the woman on the ground and stabbed her with the knife again. Soon after, another kidney was extracted. The floor was now completely soaked in blood, filling my nostrils with a nauseating metallic scent.
After a few more convulsions, the woman's body ceased moving. Her chest rose and fell weakly; sometimes it took a full minute or longer for her to draw a breath. With more air going out than coming in, I knew that even if she were rushed to a hospital now, there would be no saving her.
