The Punk Senior clearly had no intention of speaking to me properly, let alone shaking hands. He snorted, glanced at Qin Senior Sister, and then dragged his girlfriend away, muttering, "What's there to talk about with her? She won't put out anyway."
Qin Senior Sister was furious at his words, her face turning red and her fists clenching. Normally, she should have sternly reprimanded her boyfriend at that moment. But surprisingly, she didn't get angry; instead, she said to him, "Oh come on, it's just because we don't know each other well. Don't be like that. I'll make it up to you later, okay?"
Unable to listen any longer, Qin Senior Sister reached out to pull her back, saying, "Zheng Yi, are you brain dead? Why do you have to act like a servant in front of him?"
Zheng Xuejie looked up at her with a puzzled expression and replied, "This is my boyfriend; of course I have to act like this."
Qin Senior Sister pointed at Punk Senior and said, "He wants to get with your best friend. Don't you understand? He's just a shameless scoundrel!"
Immediately, Zheng Xuejie became displeased and said with a serious face, "You can't say that about him; he's just joking with you guys. If you can't take a joke, then don't butt in. It's your loss if you can't appreciate a good man like him. To insult him after being friends with you for so long is just ridiculous!"
Hu Xiaoyi stood by in shock and quietly tugged at my sleeve, whispering, "Is this girl out of her mind?"
I didn't answer; I just withdrew my hand. The Ghost Fragment within me made me certain that there was Yin Qi surrounding her. Although I didn't know exactly what it was, it was clear that Zheng Xuejie irrationally defending her "boyfriend" had some reason behind it!
Seeing Qin Senior Sister getting more and more upset, even starting to tear up, I quickly pulled her away and said, "There's no point in arguing with someone like that. Let's go somewhere else."
"Haha, the junior is still so proud. I wonder if you'll be able to sleep soundly in the future," Punk Senior said something inexplicable before leaving with his girlfriend.
Although I understood he was implying something, I couldn't grasp its meaning. After thinking it over, I doubted he would actually come to break my window while I was sleeping.
After walking a few steps with Qin Senior Sister, I heard sobbing sounds. Turning around, I saw this gentle yet slightly stubborn Senior Sister had started to cry. I quickly asked Hu Xiaoyi for a tissue and handed it to her, saying, "Don't cry; it's not worth getting upset over someone like that."
Qin Senior Sister wiped her tears and choked out, "I'm not angry; I'm just sad seeing her foolishly devoted to someone who doesn't deserve it! Why are all men like this? Can't they just be decent?"
I replied, "Not all men are like him. Besides, your friend isn't stupid. She can tell what's good and what's bad."
"If she could tell clearly, she wouldn't be blindly defending him," Qin Senior Sister said.
I said, "It depends on the situation. Have you forgotten why your sister and her ex-boyfriend got back together?"
Hearing this, Qin Senior Sister immediately looked up. I continued, "That man has something about him; it's probably not good. I think the reason Zheng Xuejie loves him so blindly must be related to this."
Upon hearing this, Qin Senior Sister turned to leave, and I quickly grabbed her, asking where she was going. She said, "What else can I do? Of course, I'm going to confront him! Using such despicable means, I need to expose him!"
I helplessly pulled her back and said, "Right now, Zheng Xuejie is being influenced by that thing; she won't believe you at all. Besides, we don't even know what that thing is. Even if we say something, he won't admit it."
"This won't work, and that won't work—what should we do then? Are we just going to watch her fall into a pit of fire without doing anything?" Qin Senior Sister glared at me and said, "It's all because of people like you who sell strange things that harm others!"
I really wanted to spit blood; how did this get thrown onto me? I patiently said, "Calm down for a moment. I'll make a call to my family; they have more experience and should have a solution."
When Qin Senior Sister heard this, she urged me to hurry and call, hoping to resolve the matter overnight. While I was taking out my phone, Hu Xiaoyi asked from the side, "Are you saying that Senior Sister is being influenced by an Amulet?"
"It might be an Amulet or something else; it's likely," I replied.
Hu Xiaoyi said, "I think Liang Xi is the same way. His behavior has been so strange lately; you should ask your family about that spirit..."
I knew what he was trying to say. I had already received a reasonable explanation from Liang Xi earlier, so I impatiently said, "Stop overthinking it. I've told you many times that little ghost can't be the problem. My Second Uncle and grandfather have been in this line of work for so long; they are definitely right!"
"You don't understand; he's really acting weird now. Every time he sees me, his eyes glow green. If anyone gets too close to me, he inexplicably gets angry. Many people are saying he..." Hu Xiaoyi explained anxiously.
"Oh, then he must really love you," I replied dismissively.
Just then, the call connected, and my Second Uncle's tone was very impatient: "You really know how to pick your moments. Do you know that answering the phone during meal times affects my appetite? I'm in a meeting with a client right now; if you mess it up, are you going to compensate me?"
I chuckled awkwardly and flattered him before getting to the point and asking, "Is there any way to help someone influenced by an Amulet regain their senses?"
My Second Uncle asked, "Which kind of Amulet?"
I let out a sound and said, "I don't know."
Second Uncle hung up the phone immediately...
What a bad temper! He turns on me just like that. Is he really my uncle?
With no other choice, I called back. Second Uncle roared into the phone, "Are you going to let anyone eat in peace?"
Through the receiver, feeling the storm of his anger, after a good scolding, Second Uncle said to me, "You better figure out what that Amulet is before asking me again. If you call me again before that, I swear I'll come over and give you a beating!"
The call was hung up again. Qin Senior Sister saw me put down the phone and quickly asked, "How did it go? Do we have a way?"
How could I tell her I had been scolded like a child for half an hour? So I said, "Of course we have a way; there are plenty of options. But Second Uncle said we need to clarify what that thing is first before we can treat it properly. It's just like treating an illness; if you don't know the symptoms, even a miracle doctor can't help."
Qin Senior Sister was flustered with concern and couldn't offer any good suggestions. As for Hu Xiaoyi, he seemed a bit angry; perhaps it was because I didn't side with him regarding Liang Xi. The two of them, one on each side, were as silent as mutes. After thinking for a long time, I finally determined a rough plan of action.
First, we needed to figure out the social connections of this Punk Senior. That way, we could gather useful information through people around him. Qin Senior Sister said that he was a third-year student in the architecture department and usually didn't interact much with male students on campus. However, he had quite a few close relationships with Senior Sisters and younger female students. To put it bluntly, he was just a playboy using studying as an excuse to chase girls.
In order to help her friends escape from the Suffering Sea, Qin Senior Sister volunteered to ask those girls who had previously "suffered" about their experiences. I wanted Hu Xiaoyi to help inquire about who Punk Senior usually interacted with outside of school, but he wasn't keen on doing such things. I couldn't force him; after all, Qin Senior Sister had no ties with him, so it was understandable that he didn't want to get involved.
Fortunately, Qin Senior Sister had some influence on campus. At nine o'clock that evening, we met on the playground. She told me she had asked several people but hadn't found any useful information. Punk Senior basically didn't live on campus; his roommates were now forgetting what he even looked like.
This made things difficult. If he didn't live on campus, even if he did have the Amulet, it might be worn on him or kept off-campus. In that case, to find that thing, we would have to follow Punk Senior to where he usually lived.
This wasn't going to be easy; I wasn't confident and had no choice but to tell Qin Senior Sister the truth.
Seeing my troubled expression, Qin Senior Sister suddenly stomped her foot and said, "Then I'll go find him myself! If the thing is really on him, I'll just steal it!"
"That's unlikely," I replied. "If he really has it with him, he probably wouldn't let strangers touch it."
Qin Senior Sister left without saying much about her thoughts. Watching her determined figure fade away, I suddenly thought of the revolutionary martyrs written in our textbooks.
However, I didn't dwell on it too much; after all, it wasn't a transaction, just a matter of friendship providing some help within my means.
When I returned to the dormitory, the room was dark, and Liang Xi was standing by the window, seemingly lost in thought. I turned on the light, and Liang Xi immediately turned his head. His expression was fierce, as if my action had disturbed something important. I was startled, but then his expression softened, and he said, "You're back. I thought a thief had come in."
I sighed in relief and replied, "You really scared me. Why don't you turn on the lights?"
"I've gotten used to sleeping alone; the light affects my sleep," Liang Xi answered.
I nodded and glanced around, asking, "Where's Hu Xiaoyi? Hasn't he come back yet?"
Liang Xi nodded and said, "He probably went to sleep in another dorm."
I chuckled to myself, thinking that Hu Xiaoyi was quite timid.
After turning off the lights to sleep, I felt a bit cold in the middle of the night. Suddenly, I twitched nervously and woke up. When I opened my eyes, I saw someone standing by my bed.
From the figure, it seemed to be Liang Xi, but in the darkness, I couldn't make out his expression; I only knew he was quietly staring at me. Rubbing my eyes, I asked, "What are you doing, Liang Xi? It's late at night; why are you standing there scaring me?"
Liang Xi didn't respond, and an uneasy feeling rose within me. What if it wasn't him but an intruder? Remembering what Punk Senior had said earlier that evening, I thought to myself that guy wouldn't really come looking for trouble in the middle of the night, would he?
