I forced a smile. I wasn't very familiar with Qin Senior Sister; we had only interacted more in the past few days, so how could I know who she had offended? However, the only person that came to mind during this time was Punk Senior.
That guy had threatened us before, but afterward, there was no follow-up. Now that I think about it, if he could find someone to cast a love spell, he could also hire someone to take revenge. If that's the case, then that guy is truly heartless for targeting an innocent woman!
Second Uncle listened to my analysis and waved his hand, saying, "Then let's break the spell first and then settle the score with him. How dare he threaten my nephew? He must be tired of living!"
I was overjoyed; it couldn't be better that Second Uncle was willing to step in. With his abilities, handling such matters would be a piece of cake. But what left me speechless was Second Uncle's clear stance on breaking the spell. Even if it was for a classmate, he still wanted payment. Ajan Nick had come all the way here and couldn't work for free; considering our acquaintance, he would only charge a friendly price of five thousand.
Five thousand was quite a sum at that time. Although I wasn't sure if breaking the spell really required that much money, I certainly couldn't go to Qin Senior Sister's parents and ask for such a large amount. After several pleas, Second Uncle glared at me and lowered the price to two thousand five hundred. For this, he even slapped me on the back and said, "If all my clients were like you haggling over prices, I'd be out of business!"
I chuckled awkwardly and hurried to find Qin Senior Sister's parents to inform them about the situation. At first, they were skeptical, but after hearing from classmates that my family indeed worked in this field, they half-believed and asked hesitantly, "Can it really be cured? This is a mental illness!"
I invited Ajan Nick over and introduced him: "This is a very famous Black-Clad Achan from Thailand, skilled in ancient medicine and breaking spells. He happened to be in the country helping others with their ailments, which is why he could come so quickly. If you don't believe it, you can let him try first; you can pay once Senior Sister is better."
Hearing this, Second Uncle, who had been yawning as he walked over, immediately widened his eyes again. In his line of work, there was never a case where services were rendered before payment. To keep him calm, I had to put on a brave face and pretend not to notice while trying my best to persuade Qin Senior Sister's parents to agree.
Perhaps they truly couldn't bear such a blow; in their desperation for help, they decided to give it a try without caring whether it would work or not. Seeing them agree, I quickly turned around and made an OK gesture to Second Uncle. He snorted through his nose and finally spoke a few words to Ajan Nick under my pleading gaze.
Ajan turned back into the room with one hand on Qin Senior Sister's forehead and the other on the amulet hanging around her neck while murmuring low chants. The sound of his chanting was like tiny mosquitoes buzzing; the more I tried to listen closely, the more indistinct it became.
As the chanting continued, Qin Senior Sister stopped screaming and instead rolled her eyes while her body twitched uncontrollably.
Drool dripped continuously from her mouth like a true madwoman. Not wanting her poor image to spread too widely, I persuaded several teachers and seniors accompanying me to leave. When I returned to the room, I heard Qin Senior Sister let out a heartbreaking scream.
Her parents immediately rushed over and shouted in concern about what had happened!
Second Uncle stopped them with one hand and said, "Ajan is treating her right now; don't disturb him."
The psychiatrist walked over, glaring at Second Uncle with a righteous expression. "What kind of treatment is this? It's clearly just a trick. I warn you both, do not attempt to deceive the patient's family. Leave the hospital immediately, or I will call security!"
Second Uncle looked at him sideways and asked, "Who do you think you are?"
The doctor was furious and immediately went outside to shout for security. What kind of person is Second Uncle? I had witnessed his indifference to human life when we were in Thailand. A man who has weathered many storms would never take a doctor seriously. So, Second Uncle couldn't be bothered to respond; he simply blocked Qin Senior Sister's parents from interrupting Ajan's ritual.
Qin Senior Sister's parents were also indecisive. They initially thought we had real skills, but upon seeing the situation, they realized it was all a scam. At the very least, they had never heard of any medical practice that relied on sound.
Seeing their growing impatience and the words that had already displeased Second Uncle, I quickly stepped forward and said, "Auntie, Uncle, please don't worry. This gentleman is a very famous master in Thailand, skilled in internal energy techniques. He is currently using energy to help Senior Sister unblock her nerves. I believe it won't be long before she feels better. Whether you believe it or not, at this point, it's better to calm down and wait for the results. If it truly doesn't work, we won't ask for a single penny."
Upon hearing this, Second Uncle immediately turned to me and shouted, "You little brat..."
I dared not let him finish his sentence and quickly said, "I will report you to Grandpa if you don't give me the Amulet, which led to..."
"Ungrateful!" Second Uncle understood my implication and pointed at me angrily. "You ungrateful wretch! How could you threaten me for her after all I've done for you? Fine, just wait! The next time I supply goods to you, I'll write my name backward!"
Second Uncle was genuinely angry because my actions had overturned all his trading rules. For a businessman, nothing is more frustrating than transactions without any principles. But for Qin Senior Sister's sake, I couldn't care less.
At that moment, Qin Senior Sister suddenly let out a gasp. When I looked over, I saw her head drooping down and she was motionless. Ajan Nick withdrew his hand from her forehead and slowly stepped back.
I was momentarily stunned before realizing that the ritual had ended. I rushed over to check on Qin Senior Sister. Her face was pale and her lips slightly blue; fortunately, after calling her name a few times, she opened her eyes and looked at me.
From the confusion and fatigue in her eyes, it was clear that the Voice Reduction had been lifted. However, Senior Sister did not seem well; after glancing at me once more, she closed her eyes again. I looked anxiously at Second Uncle, who snorted and said, "She’s healed; pay up!"
When Qin Senior Sister's parents heard that she was better, they hurried over to check on her. Perhaps seeing their daughter much calmer than before convinced them somewhat of our abilities. After about ten minutes, Second Uncle received two thousand five hundred dollars in his hands. He stuffed all the money into Ajan Nick's hands with an unhappy expression before coming over to slap me on the back and saying he wanted to leave.
I dared not let him leave just like that without finding out who had cast the spell; what if Senior Sister fell victim again later? After much persuasion, Second Uncle finally agreed to stay and help but made it clear that this assistance would not be free of charge. Regardless of whether Punk Senior was the true culprit or not, two thousand dollars would need to be paid to Ajan as a reward for identifying him. As for what needed to be done afterward once we found out who it was—that would depend on how much money was involved.
Two thousand dollars just to confirm whether someone was the "murderer" was quite a hefty fee. Most importantly, Second Uncle firmly refused to let me cover this cost upfront. He looked at me seriously and said, "Child, it's not that I'm stingy or can't afford this amount of money. If it were for you personally—whether it's thousands or even millions—I wouldn't bat an eye. But business is business; we can't break the rules just because it's someone you know; otherwise, we wouldn't be able to operate in this line of work."
I could hear the sincerity in Second Uncle's words and knew that my actions had indeed caused him some trouble; thus I refrained from saying more. Second Uncle mentioned he would take Ajan around nearby and if there were no updates after a day, they would return to Thailand.
Achieving this step was already quite remarkable for Second Uncle, and I couldn't ask for much more.
A few hours after Second Uncle left, Qin Senior Sister gradually regained her spirits. After drinking some thin porridge, there was a sparkle returning to her eyes. Her parents expressed their immense gratitude towards me, and even several teachers and classmates were quite surprised. As for the psychiatrist named Security Guard, no one paid him any attention anymore.
Once Qin Senior Sister had rested enough, I recounted the events that had transpired. Upon learning that she had been cursed, Qin Senior Sister felt utterly baffled. She believed she hadn't offended anyone; even if she had minor verbal disputes with classmates occasionally, it shouldn't have led to being cursed.
After much contemplation, we both suspected that Punk Senior was the most likely culprit. It was said that Second Uncle was willing to help but required a substantial fee. Qin Senior Sister hesitated for a moment before calling a few close friends.
Those Senior Sisters were not lacking in money at home and knew there was a way to rescue their friend from the fire pit; none of them declined. With their contributions, I handed over two thousand yuan to Second Uncle.
Qin Senior Sister initially wanted to join us, but I thought it best for her to rest more after just having the curse lifted. Moreover, her parents disagreed with her leaving the hospital so soon. Although her condition had improved thanks to "qigong," ordinary people still preferred to trust the solid techniques of hospitals.
After leaving the hospital, I didn't take Second Uncle to school but headed straight to the villa where Punk Senior lived. On the way, Hu Xiaoyi called me, crying uncontrollably.
What he said left me feeling bewildered and incredulous. After I left the cafeteria to find Qin Senior Sister, he had been entangled with Liang Xi for quite a while, and they had argued over me. The reason for the dispute was that Liang Xi thought I treated Hu Xiaoyi poorly and spoke rudely. Hu Xiaoyi felt that they had always interacted this way without any issues. It was normal for friends to joke around; did it have to be like strangers?
However, Liang Xi did not see it that way. After arguing for a while, Liang Xi suddenly pointed at Hu Xiaoyi and shouted, "Do you like him?"
This question left Hu Xiaoyi dumbfounded—what did that mean?
Liang Xi angrily replied, "I knew you liked him! You can't like him; you're mine!"
