Qin Dad, somewhat skeptical, said, "How is that possible? Could it be that the entity hasn't shown itself yet? Qin Zhenzhen always has her episodes at night."
Ma Rulong replied, "Are you questioning the expertise of a Daoist?"
Qin Dad quickly clarified that wasn't his intention, and I stepped in to smooth things over. In fact, Qin Dad had a point; if the spirit wasn't present at the moment, it would be difficult to detect any obvious Yin Qi. Of course, if someone truly skilled were here, they might sense some traces. However, neither Ma Rulong nor I could be considered such experts. Therefore, I suggested we grab a meal nearby and wait to see if anything unusual would happen tonight.
Perhaps out of respect for me or for the sake of money, Ma Rulong finally agreed. Yet he still believed that this couldn't possibly be the work of an Evil Spirit. The entity inside the drum had already been captured by the compass; that was a certainty. I said that even if it had indeed been captured, we should at least do our part. If nothing happened tonight, then no matter what he said, we would just leave.
Qin Dad arranged a lunch gathering, which I won't elaborate on. Hu Xiaoyi wasn't in much of a mood to eat; Qin Zhenzhen had been through various torments and pains these past few days and had lost a lot of weight, causing Hu Xiaoyi to look haggard as well. I could tell he liked Qin Zhenzhen, and she had feelings for him too; they just hadn't broken through that barrier yet.
If this matter could be resolved properly, it would also help with Fourth Brother Hu Xiaoyi's lifelong affairs. Considering various factors, I persuaded Ma Rulong to stay.
Soon night fell, and we sat outside the hospital room chatting idly. Hu Xiaoyi asked me, "Old Two, why are there so many strange things in this world? Before I met you, I never encountered any; now it feels like they're everywhere."
I couldn't explain this coincidence either; however, Fat Daoist Ma Rulong made a good point when he said, "It's like someone who doesn't understand mineralogy sees everything as just ordinary stones. Once they learn about it, they realize there are minerals all around them. So it's not entirely coincidence; it's just that you didn't understand before and didn't think about it in that way. Now that you do understand, it seems more prevalent."
Hu Xiaoyi nodded in agreement with this theory.
In contrast, Qin Dad raised a more practical question; he asked Ma Rulong, how could one completely rid themselves of the entanglement with an Evil Spirit? Ideally, he wanted to never encounter one again.
Ma Rulong said it was simple: buy an Amulet from my brother or let me draw a peace talisman or ghost-repelling charm for you to carry with you. It would guarantee that spirits would retreat and never come near you. Qin Dad eagerly asked how much it would cost. The two discussed this topic for quite some time. Listening from the side made me feel both frustrated and uneasy; I wasn't sure what a talisman was since I had never encountered one before. However, I understood a bit about Amulets. Ma Rulong spoke of them as if they were miraculous and deliberately avoided mentioning any negative aspects while only highlighting the positives.
The meaning of "Qin Dad" is to stay away from ghosts, or what is commonly referred to as spirits. However, if one buys an "Amulet," it essentially means being in close contact with spirits. Ma Rulong's failure to mention this is clearly deceiving consumers.
But I still hope he can help, so I can't expose him in front of everyone. I plan to have Hu Xiaoyi privately educate Qin Dad about the common knowledge of Amulets later.
Around one o'clock in the morning, Fat Daoist had already slumped over in his chair and fallen asleep, and I was struggling to keep my eyes open. Just as I was dozing off, I suddenly heard Hu Xiaoyi scream, "Quick, something's wrong!"
I jolted awake and opened my eyes to see Hu Xiaoyi rushing into the ward, where a woman's scream echoed. I quickly shook Fat Daoist awake; he was still half-asleep and mumbled that he didn't want breakfast. I was anxious and grabbed his arm, dragging him toward the ward: "What breakfast? Qin Zhenzhen is in trouble!"
Qin Dad had already rushed into the ward with Hu Xiaoyi. When I reached the door, I saw Qin Zhenzhen holding two batons, frantically striking her own stomach. Her abdomen had just been stitched up with dozens of stitches; it couldn't withstand such violent actions. The wounds immediately burst open, and blood seeped through her hospital gown. Qin Dad and Hu Xiaoyi held her arms on either side, trying to take the batons away from her.
I felt a strong Yin Qi emanating from the batons, which took me by surprise.
Ma Rulong seemed to notice this as well; he sniffed and opened his bleary eyes, asking, "Where's that strange smell coming from?"
I pulled him to the bedside and said, "You need to check if she's possessed by a spirit!"
Ma Rulong had already sobered up; he looked at Qin Zhenzhen from head to toe with a shocked expression: "How could this happen?"
I pointed at the two batons held by Qin Dad and Hu Xiaoyi and said, "Those things are part of a Drum Set; there’s probably a spirit hidden inside! You need to use the compass to collect it!"
Ma Rulong frowned and said, "I thought this had nothing to do with Evil Spirits, so I left the compass at the hotel and didn't bring it out!"
At that moment, Qin Zhenzhen suddenly shook her arms violently, throwing Qin Dad and Hu Xiaoyi aside. She had incredible strength; in this regard, she resembled those who were possessed. Free from restraint, she tore open her hospital gown, revealing the bandages wrapped around her abdomen. To my horror, I saw her grab the bandages with both hands and tear them off forcefully before inserting her fingers into her wound.
Blood gushed out suddenly, and Qin Dad cried out in pain, nearly fainting on the spot. I could no longer remain a bystander; I immediately grabbed Qin Zhenzhen's arm tightly along with Hu Xiaoyi, while shouting to Fat Daoist and Ma Rulong, "Is there any other way? Your Palm Thunder, hurry, use it on her!"
Ma Rulong lowered his head slightly and remained silent. After a few seconds, he finally said to me, "You all hold on; I'll go get the compass!"
With that, he dashed out of the hospital room. I was so angry I wanted to curse him out. What kind of master is this? Can't he deal with ghosts without a compass? Didn't he say Palm Thunder was powerful?
But I had no time to argue with him. Qin Zhenzhen's strength was terrifying like raging waves, and Hu Xiaoyi and I were like small boats in a storm, helplessly swaying back and forth with her power. Fortunately, Qin Dad also rushed over, and the on-duty doctors and nurses entered the room upon hearing the commotion. With everyone's combined effort, we managed to stop her from continuing to tear open her abdomen.
Soon, a doctor brought a sedative, but after it was injected, there was no sign of Qin Zhenzhen calming down. After increasing the dosage several times without effect, the doctor ran out of options. Continuing to inject would likely cause irreversible harm to Qin Zhenzhen's body. Although we could prevent her from further hurting herself, in this situation, it was naturally impossible to consider suturing her wounds.
The blood continued to flow more and more; her face grew increasingly pale. Hu Xiaoyi was so anxious she was almost in tears, constantly asking me what to do.
I cursed Fat Daoist for being unreliable and wondered whether he had actually gone or was just getting the compass. As for solutions, an idea suddenly struck me.
Previously, when Liang Xi and Hu Xiaoyi were affected by the little ghost's curse, Second Uncle taught me to use the White Olive Amulet for suppression, which worked quite well. I didn't know if this would be effective on someone possessed, but I had to give it a try. I urged those around me to lend more strength; then I took one hand out and removed the Amulet from my neck before hanging it around Qin Zhenzhen's neck.
With the Amulet close to her body, Qin Zhenzhen's movements immediately slowed down significantly, and her strength diminished. I felt a surge of joy; it was indeed effective. However, for some reason, this time the White Olive Amulet couldn't suppress her as thoroughly as before. Qin Zhenzhen's body continued to tremble, occasionally struggling forcefully. This back-and-forth made us all too afraid to relax; we had to remain vigilant at all times.
The doctors here had probably never encountered such a peculiar patient; they even suggested bringing in a psychiatric restraint bed. At the very least, they wanted to secure Qin Zhenzhen first and then give her a blood transfusion. In just over ten minutes, the blood flowing from her abdomen had already stained most of the hospital room red. Qin Dad's eyes were filled with tears; he had never seen his daughter in such a miserable state.
I sighed and thought that if I had been more resolute in stopping her earlier or had described the truth as more terrifying, perhaps Qin Zhenzhen would have been too scared to buy that drum set.
